This position is responsible for operating locomotives; interpreting train orders, signals, and rules and regulations; and timely and correct switching and placement of rail cars.
Schedule: Full-time. Weekends and holidays as required by rail operations.
Monday to Sunday: 12hr shifts; 2 days on and 2-days off on Monday through Friday. Saturday and Sunday: 10 hours of work.
Pay: Starting at $28.87 CAD per hour

Key Responsibilities
Operator Duties
- Inspect locomotives before operation to verify supplies such as fuel, sand, and water are sufficient.
- Receive starting signal from crew leader and operate locomotive using throttle and airbrakes.
- Interpret train orders, signals, and regulations to ensure safe and timely movement of freight.
- Prepare reports documenting accidents, unscheduled stops, and delays.
- Lubricate locomotive moving parts and perform routine equipment checks.
- Monitor track conditions and report any obstructions or hazards.
- Assist with training new team members.
- Comply with all safety regulations and wear required PPE.
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
Helper Duties
- Operate switches, derails, gates, and other trackside equipment.
- Control train movement via radio, hand signals, and lanterns.
- Couple and uncouple rail cars, apply and release hand brakes, and manage air hoses and wheel chocks.
- Assist in locomotive lubrication and maintenance tasks.
- Support customer billing processes for outbound rail cars.
- Help train new employees and follow all safety procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Military experience is an asset.

Physical Requirements
- Regular walking, standing, climbing, and handling of heavy equipment.
- Visual acuity required for detecting obstructions and reading signals.
- Outdoor work in all weather conditions with exposure to loud environments and moving equipment.
