Automotive Service Technician - Multi-Level Position Description
Position Overview
Valley Auto Repair is seeking motivated and reliable Automotive Service Technicians to join our growing team.
This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced shop environment. Technicians are expected to perform quality repairs, communicate effectively with service advisors and team members, and maintain a high standard of workmanship and professionalism.
Positions may range from Apprentice Technicians learning the trade to experienced Journeyman and Diagnostic Technicians performing advanced repairs and diagnostics on all makes and models.
Position Levels:
Level 1 – Junior Apprentice Technician/Shop Helper
Entry Level / 1st Year Apprentice
$20.00-$25.00/hourly
Responsibilities
- Perform oil changes, tire service & basic maintenance
- Assist senior technicians with diagnostics and repairs
- Clean, vacuum & wash vehicles
- Clean and organize work areas and equipment
- Unload and load supplies and materials as needed
- Assist in inventory management and stock replenishment
- Inspects tools and equipment to ensure they are in working order.
Qualifications
- Registered apprentice
- Basic automotive knowledge and tool set
- Positive attitude and strong work ethic
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Valid driver’s license
Level 2 – Apprentice Technician
2nd – 3rd Year Apprentice
$25.00-$30.00/hourly + Semi-Annual Bonus Plan
Responsibilities
- Perform oil changes, tire service & basic maintenance.
- Diagnose and repair automotive systems including brakes, suspension, steering, electrical, and engine performance
- Perform inspections and preventative maintenance
- Use diagnostic equipment and scan tools effectively
- Communicate repair recommendations clearly
- Maintain productivity and quality standards
Qualifications
- 2nd or 3rd year apprentice
- Experience with domestic and import vehicles
- Strong basic diagnostic and repair skills
- Ability to work independently
- Valid driver’s license
- Own tools required
Level 3 – Automotive Service Technician
Journeyman / Red Seal Preferred
$30.00-$40.00/hourly + Semi-Annual Bonus Plan
Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair automotive systems including brakes, suspension, steering, electrical, and engine performance
- Perform inspections and preventative maintenance
- Use diagnostic equipment and scan tools effectively
- Communicate repair recommendations clearly
- Maintain productivity and quality standards
- Mentor apprentices when required
Qualifications
- Journeyman or Red Seal certification preferred
- Strong diagnostic and repair skills
- Experience with domestic and import vehicles
- Ability to work independently
- Valid driver’s license
- Own tools required
Level 4 – Senior Automotive Technician
Senior Automotive Technician / Advanced Diagnostics
$40.00-$50.00/hourly + Semi-Annual Bonus Plan
Responsibilities
- Perform advanced diagnostics and complex repairs
- Troubleshoot electrical, drivability, and performance concerns
- Support and mentor shop technicians
- Assist with workflow and technical guidance
- Maintain high standards of efficiency and workmanship
- Stay current with evolving vehicle technology and repair procedures
Qualifications
- Extensive automotive diagnostic experience
- Red Seal certification strongly preferred
- Strong electrical and drivability diagnostic abilities
- Leadership and mentoring skills
- Experience with advanced scan tools and diagnostic software
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
