To start, their journeyman rate simply isn’t competitive and is $2 an hour below the industry standard. There is no overtime pay for overtime hours, all they offer is 1:1 banked hours for hours worked over 44 a week. You will have to sign a form waiving acknowledging this. The one advantage of this is that since there is zero incentive to work extra hours, you can expect to have a routine work schedule.

If you work out of town, expect to have to share a hotel room with a coworker. Live out allowance is the lowest they can physically get it while still being able to keep projects staffed.

Apprentices are worked into the ground with practically no journeymen watching over them. I worked on a site with 7 times as many apprentices as there were journeymen. The amount of mistakes that shouldn’t have been made was staggering and we were constantly redoing work. It’s very easy to learn bad habits when you aren’t working with a journeyman and it shows at Action. Not to mention the safety implications of working unsupervised on potentially live electrical systems. Shocks and other injuries were common and were brushed under the rug to avoid the associated paperwork.

They advertise tuition reimbursement in their job advertisements, but that simply isn't true. I completed my first year and was not offered any reimbursement for my tuition.

There are very few working journeymen in this company, meaning that if you're competent, it's easy to work yourself into taking on more responsibility like managing jobs.

Overall, this company fits perfectly into the saying “You are just a number”. You are there as cheap labour, to do the work that a journeyman should be mentoring, all to save the company money at the expense of your wallet and your apprenticeship.

Since I started here I have had excellent opportunities to learn and advance my career. The company growth rate has been very strong. I haven’t missed any days since I started and have opportunity for overtime occasionally. The whole team is very positive and is working together to develop better systems for management. We have had multiple company functions, all of which were awesome. The company has been really engaging employees for feedback and have been working with the employees in many ways.

Was very well trained and cared for during my employment. Would go back to them if they were hiring again. A good variety of tasks and sites. Mostly a very professional employer, very giving in scheduling. Journeyman were mostly approachable and patient when training apprentices. Company was generous when it could be, BBQs, staff parties and Christmas bonuses plus acknowledging of your accomplishments and time served.

Typical day at work, check emails, answer or pursue requests from emails.  Do reports if needed.  Cover reception.  Set up new customers.  Answer phones.  Make appointments.  Book hotels.  File.  Copy blue prints or manuals.  Plan parties, BBQ's, set up for these events.  Help in service department, scheduling, filing, matching Purchase Orders to invoices.  Getting things ready for technicians to go out of town for week for maintenance.

Hardest part of job is having nothing to do.  Most enjoyable part of the job is being busy.

Learning new skills were rare experience as they do a lot of light replacing, retrofitting jobs. Often times only Jman are allowed to work on skilled tasks which negativity affect apprentice’s scope of knowledge. Upper management were disorganized but friendly. Honest as much as the next company when it comes to full disclosure. Quite cheap when bidding on jobs, which affects the workmanship of their workers, especially if rushed.

Overall a very productive environment. Management strives to challenge employees to meet their maximum potential. Creme of the crop co-workers. Has always kept workers busy even in slow seasons.

A great place to work, especially as a new electrician. They provide lots of opportunity to learn, and grow in your field. I was fortunate enough to work with a lot of great people, and hopefully when this pandemic ends, I will be able to work with them again.

This is a really nice company to work for. They help their apprentices to learn all that they need during their apprenticeship years. 
The journeyman's really nice and they're fun to work with. The work environment is nice.

This is a very good company that has respect for the people that work there as they have all worked their way up through the ranks and know what it takes to do every job.
