What is the best part of working at the company?
Some of your fellow workers will be fantastic,  many are just there temporarily for the (mostly unskilled) grunt work.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Dealing with Field Directors who are mostly incompetent at humane interaction with their field crew.  If you like being treated badly, in all kinds of weather, and have unrealistic expectations heaped upon you... then this is the place for you.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
In the Archaeology Division(s) you are a grunt.  You are treated like a grunt.  You are expected to dig a hole, find artifacts, bag them, fill the hole back in, and do it again and again.  Don't expect to use your education.  Don't expect to analyze your finds.  Don't  expect intellectual stimulation.  Don't expect much credit for your finds.  You are a grunt.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Before dawn report to the meeting spot earlier than you need to.  Ride in a crew vehicle at illegal speeds, listening to bad music, and arrive at a remote location in all weather conditions.  Work in the heat or cold all day with only the legally required breaks and minimal accommodation for sun relief or cold.  Most sites have no facilities (or even a portable toilet) so you'd better hope the field crops are tall as you squat down in the rows to do your business.

I accepted the job in Saudi Arabia as there was a recession in Abu Dhabi (where I had worked with AECOM for 34 years) and this was the only job that I could find. I originally accepted the position of Civil Engineer and was later appointed as Assistant Resident Engineer, reporting to the Resident Engineer.

A typical work day would be 1) touring the Site with the Contractor to view the progress, 2) discussing the progress, or lack of it, with my inspectors and 3) seeing if my inspectors had any problems. 
At the end of the day I would complete my reports. 
During the day I would attend any required meetings at Site, or elsewhere, or complete any required reports.

I was able to re-learn/review a variety of different work activities (apart from my previous marine experience) such as concrete block pouring, driven concrete piling,  building construction and various types of paving.

Management at Site was changeable but fairly consistent.

I got along well with the Client's Project Manager and with my supporting AECOM Inspectors.

The hardest part of the job was arranging internal Site transport (especially at the hotter time of the year) over the large Site, as we had only one dedicated Site vehicle.

The most enjoyable part of the work was dealing with the various nationalities working at the Site.

o	Report and manage financial budgets, forecasts and outlooks with in-depth performance and variance analysis for the Oil & Gas facility construction business units.
o	Compile, research and analyze complex operations data, industry trends and customers CAPEX.
o	Translate the business dynamics into a challenging short and long term business plan to steer operations and business development towards goals.
o	Adopt early warning process and provide analytical to allow operation management to act proactively and ensure any deviation is promptly spotted, analyzed, and reported.
o	Forecast projects financials and cash flow curves to eliminate cash gaps and improve working capital
o	Achieved ROCE growth and improved working capital by improving invoicing business process, billing techniques and optimizing contract terms.
o	Improved liquidity ratios and DSO and through optimizing the cash conservation cycle and adopting electronic billing system.
o	Manage and develop models statistical and financial models to evaluate projects and analyze current and new aspects of business performance using business intelligence and predictive analytical tools
o	Undertake ad-hoc projects, researches, assignments, presentation work and other relevant initiatives as requested by the executive management.

•	Use AutoCAD Civil3D to produce drawings and figures for Alberta Transportation projects  including road, highway, interchange, foundation, pond, and drainage system.
•	Use AutoCAD Civil3D to prepare drawings for City of Calgary urban projects including urban and rural roadway infrastructure, parking lot layout and pedestrian crossing.
•	Use AutoCAD Civil3D to generate drawings and sketches for Calgary bicycle and walking pathway project.
•	Use AutoCAD Civil3D to provide drawings and charts for CN & CP railway projects including plan, profile, and details.
•	Use AutoCAD Civil3D to prepare figures, sketches and charts for presentation in reports and proposals for oil and gas pipeline projects.
•	Coordinate project drawings with project managers, CADD staff and the design team for accuracy and conformance to company standards.
•	Assist design group to provide technical assistance including search technical information and performance various calculations.
•	Deliver various drawings packages to meet standards and specifications including Issued for Tender Review, Issued for Tender, Issued for Construction and Issued for Record.
•	Convert  and export the completed AutoCAD plans to MicroStation files as per clients requirements.

Absolutely loved working for this company during the construction project of a Compressor Station in Medicine Hat.

Wage was fantastic. Work shift was 10/4 which was great for in town workers to have an opportunity to make great money but still be home every night.

Crew was probably one of the best I have ever worked with/for. Everyone got along for the most part, and everyone shared responsibilities and tasks, not one person was ever thinking they were above or below anyone else.

Only downside. Lay offs. Unfortunately everyone is essentially hired for the specific project, then once near completion or complete, you were laid off. Certain workers were kept on longer than others due to attitudes/workmanship/etc, which was nice to see that you were rewarded for trying your hardest and being a team player.

Foreman on our site was amazing. Would never hesitate to work for this man again. Also gave a terrific recommendation letter without even asking. Thank you for showing me what a true foreman should be.

This company is just like any other companies out there - struggling, but still floating and is trying to make waves. 

And just like any other business out there in this challenging times, this company goes through a lot of transitional phases brought about by the decisions of the head honchos to keep the company survive and competive in the market. 

Of course, there are good and bad decisions but at the end of the day, an employee SHOULD REALIZE that everyone is JUST a number to the company's books and that he or she should:
1. Improve his or her craft in whatever department, field, or group he or she is working in;
2. Learn and get the most knowledge he or she can get from his or her job;
3. Take care of his or her own career;
4. Cherish the people you work with no matter how seemingly outlandish they are to you

With all the retrenchments and axing out of people that are happening, you would not be surprised that today you are axed out and tomorrow, the people who axed you out will also be axed out. It's that vicious cycle...

A typical day at work comprises of a few hours of individual working and in personal office and a subtle blend of a interaction form colleagues and at time mediate supervisor when there is need to brainstorm over an issue.  I learned so much from my immediate supervisor whose leadership skill is highly desirous.My co-workers are smart and hard working people who, i believe their work ethics has also rob off on me.  

The hardest part of my job is whenever I am assigned a non billable work to do.Whenever this happens, I would have to put in more hours than I should in order to meet up budgetary expectations.

Most enjoyable part of the job is the opportunity to meet and work with different clients and subcontractors from time to time. There is also the benefit of getting involved with colleagues in games and other activities outside of the work place.

I have worked for Aecom at both CNRL and Kearl. The difference between the two sites is night and day. Aecom work at Kearl was excellent, safe, timely ,accurate pay. Aecom work at Albian was good, safety culture was just average, pay was messed up. Aecom management at Kearl made you feel like part of the team. Aecom management at Albian acted like a bunch of thugs, threatening to fire employees on numerous occasions. Bus ride from camp at Kearl was to long, Wapasu camp for Kearl is ok. Bus ride at Albian is short, however camp is excellent. Once new camp is built onsite at Kearl, I think I will skip Albian altogether. HR for Aecom is pathetic, constantly sending certificates over and over to different people for same sight. Company would be much better if they organized their database with files on employees to include certificates and qualifications, it just does not make sense to send them multiple times.

Interesting projects (not all of them, but some are)

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Viciously competitive environment. No such thing as work colleagues - everyone is out to step on everyone else's perceived value. Strong "old boy's club" culture, where all that matters is who owes you favours.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Toxic. One gets projection by putting others down. Woe of you if you demonstrate any true competence - you'll be savaged right away. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
If you have the right friends, full of self-congratulations and "old boy's club" talk. Otherwise, there will never be any relevant work for you to do. Only menial tasks, to showcase how much you don't belong. And then the cycle becomes self-justifying.

My co-workers were very supportive and those were a complement on my self-learning on the company technology.  I had reported on weekly base new potential business opportunities, which I found through searching engine webs and customer sites as well. It was really exciting when I could set a sales agent in Mexico and I did some technical presentations as a result of working together with the agent. The hardest part of the job was denied some technical assistance when the customer needed it and was hard for me to accept such kind of management decision. It was amazing having learned on such unique technology and being in contact with new markets as Middle East and Asia and I was able to share my experience in Latin America with co-workers and my boss.
