Supervisor gets someone to train you well at least they train a person in a way so they look good and you don’t.they blame things on you which out a explanation they all hide behind your back and talk about a person and when you figure it out it’s too late. They had a tool box talk saying to everyone to slow down because we have no parts coming in or steel. And on the other breath saying supervision said we are not slowing down we just need a balance and what is that meant by . Well after that meeting they laid me off and I was there one week short of the probation period. They say all about safety all about how much they care about employees it’s all lies sounds good but it’s not. I would not trust anyone or any supervisor and upper management in saying we are so busy not true and they put a fold in my life with out reason. very unprofessional AGI in swift current is very bad place to work 

A typical day at work was quite normal, set up, wash and paint tanks, all the way to decaling and getting tanks ready to ship. I learned a great deal of things at westeel, to many to really recount. Management was excellent except for one, but last I heard he was removed from the company. The plant manager was very personable, he would do everything in his power to help someone along. The hardest part of the job was the heat in the paint booth aside from that, the job was quite enjoyable. Had I not moved I would still be working there. The work/life balance was great, there was overtime or the occasional Saturday asked for. They always tried to make sure the employees were happy, from random BBQs to Christmas parties, golf tournaments and company matched RRSPs.  Westeel was a great company to work for, I would highly recommend joining that team.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Great co-workers/manager in.my department and ALWAYS lots of work to do.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Not enough workers to do the work and IT/computer support is basically non-existent as the centralized IT rarely finds solutions to the problems but can help you lose a whole day where you could have been doing your job (limping along with the slow systems).

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
No work/life balance - the stress of being overworked takes over your sleeping so you wake up multiple times during the night trying to figure out what needs to be done first

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Data entry at 100 miles per hour, no time for breaks or lunch if you want to keep your head above water

What is the best part of working at the company?
Some of the employees are wonderful people.  Christmas dinner is the bomb. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The attitude of the majority. Unfriendly at best.  Unwelcoming to any newcomer. It’s a big club and you will never be invited.  They’ll use you for a few months. Lay half the plant off and then rehire a few months later. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Extremely uninviting.  You’re just a number.  Dont expect to work there for long. Labourers are disposable. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Busy. Which is great. The whistle blows for breaks.

New CEO is a joke making a fool of himself, maybe if he focused his energy on sales instead of picking on people in the factory, we wouldn’t have half the problems that we have. Quality has gone from bad to really bad. Machines are super old and the new ones break down all the time. And hopefully you can get enough hours from March-October to get ei approved. 

My position was to follow orders and make sure parts were made to blueprint specifications. I was able to learn how to use indoor over head cranes, forklifts, and to utilize my time for better part production. Always had a good relationship with other co-workers. The hardest part of the job for me was when the shears blades would get dull, it was always the wait for them to be sharpened/replaced that would cost me valuable time off my machine. I loved my job, the thought of my parts being used in production made me feel proud.

A typical day involves loading heavy augers onto trailers, securely strapping down the various equipment parts, and maintaining the overall cleanliness of the yard. The most enjoyable part of the job is working hands-on with the equipment, collaborating with a great team, and seeing the immediate results of a clean, organized workspace. However, the hardest part of the job is managing the physically demanding labor and adapting to changing outdoor weather conditions during long shifts. Overall, it provides a solid team environment and good practical experience.

Safety is not the priority, supervisors turn a blind eye to keep the production going, seasonal work, employees pushed to work lots of OT during busy season and then laid off very quickly, Housekeeping, maintaining the shop floor and yard is not priority and all they care about is dollars for the executive board. There should be investment into training, and improvements but this is not making the company money immediately. 

No job security at all. Its all depends on how much happy you keep your manager. If a manager says the sun rises at the west, you must believe it. If you show them the actual reality, they yell at you and treat like a kid. I was given more harassment than the opportunity to learn about company’s operations. No organized training was provided. My manager always talked about how to pull other teams’ legs and fire people there. If you make a minor mistake being a trainee, they show you eyes. It was a worst decision of my life to join Westeel leaving a really good job behind.
