ALBERTA INFRASTRUCTURE

I had high hopes working for AI, but the management likes people that fall in line and do not bring up problems that need to be solved. This place was a perfect example of too many layers of ineffective management. Accomplishing things, even with heavy regulations in place, needn't be so difficult and stressful. 

This place would do well to enable their lower level employees to make real decisions on their own. I am glad I am back working for the private sector. I have never seen such brutal financial waste in my entire life. 

If you are a person that pays taxes, you would be appalled to know just how much money is wasted on inefficiencies that could be easily remedied. The most ironic part of it is that the rules they have in place that are supposed to promote fiscal responsibility often add to the problem. 

The public should really request a clear cut audit of the money that is spent by this organization. 

A typical day at work is numbers and meetings.  Working on the forecasting and budget audits.  I have learned to slow down and be much more accurate.  I love the management here they trust their employees and don't feel the need to hover and they let you know when you are doing a good job.  My workers are fabulous their is no office gossip and they is refreshing.  They all get along and genially like each other.   The hardest part of the job is knowing I will have to leave when my secondment is over.  The most enjoyable part is that I get to be here now and gain the experience that can move me forward in my career.

This position required attention to detail and had extremely tight deadlines to adhere to.  The Director was open to suggestions in organization of documentation both electronically and filing.  Recognition was commonplace and appreciated.

Fantastic place to work if you seek work-life balance and learning skills out of your background discipline. Highly underpaid group of professional going out of their way to save tax payers dollars. 

I work with great people however I am looking for a more challenging and rewarding job as i feel my skills are not being utilized to its full potential.  I enjoy helping the other Assistants and am a very quick learner.

Depends on which area of the ministry you are located, the stress level may go up.
Lots of change in the organization layout lately, with less communication to staff.

always encouraging understanding and helpful, always providing appropriate training to upgrade your skills, always helpful if you need clarification on things.

Fabulous workplace!  Everyday was a political learning experience, had to adjust and adapt each and every day.  The public service sector has amazing workers and my co-workers made my success a reality.

Productive and many opportunities with great working environment.

Great place to work and learn challenging things. Typical hours of work were 7.25 hours a day.
