ALBRIGHT MANOR

I consider this job to be like a therapeutic recreation boot camp. You get to exercise all the skills of a frontline recreation therapist without any of the management responsibilities. Without having a management role, you are free to just do your job. Your job is both routine and varied leading to a work life that is predictable in some ways, but never monotonous. In terms of the TR process these are the main job duties.
Assessment: conducting admission assessments, quarterly and annual assessments, MDS 2.0 sections F and N
Planning: planning programs for the calendar. Job requires excellent time management skills. Planning both scheduled and unscheduled activities, adjusting to change.
Implementation: Implementing all programs (with the exception of some spiritual and physical programs that other staff implement)
Evaluation: evaluating residents' participation in programs. Formative evaluation of programs to make changes in the moment.
Documentation: detailed documentation of residents' participation in scheduled and unscheduled group and independent activities. Detailed documentation for assessment and MDS 2.0 purposes. This facility utilizes PointClickCare and PointOfCare (PCC and POC, respectively) electronic documentation systems. 

Overall, I would say this is a great place to work. Some use it as a stepping stone to further their career, but I believe that others are content to spend their entire career here. 

I absolutely loved working here at first. The people I worked with were mostly great, I would burn out easy but I still loved the job because I loved the residents. The people I worked with seemed to actually care about their job, at first.

Some do, so I don't want to discount them. But most of the people who work there are either nursing students who don't care about being a good PSW and do the bare minimum, if that, and the other are people who have been there for decades and just do whatever they want.

Senior PSWs show up late every day, take breaks too long, bully newer PSWs, gossip from floor to floor, and don't complete all of their work and aren't penalized for any of it. I've found that they get away with it all because they're friend's with management, but if you aren't one of them you will still get in trouble for doing the same even once.

Albright incubates mediocrity. I think it has the potential to be a really great place to work, but they keep hiring really lazy people and then not disciplining them.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The staff (most anyway) Some of the nursing staff treated PSW staff like they were enigma and not worth taking the time to listen to.  Just felt unappreciated 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Not knowing who was going to “stab” you in the back next.  Can be a bit too much gossip and climbing up hard working co-workers backs telling untruths and innuendo instead of just working hard and minding their own business.  The industry is too short staffed to try and get people fired 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The residents are awesome (considering what they’re going through), multicultural staff, like most LTC.  Negativity runs too high on some units.  

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I left.   Couldn’t deal with backstabbing and bullying.  Not for me.  Life is too short and no one knows what the future might throw at you.  Backstabbers need to remember that Karma is a Bi..h

Less care, short staff nearly everyday either by call ins or poor scheduling ( blank spots no one scheduled ) causing burn out with nursing staff. Short of supplies for residents for their basic care making the tasks impossible to complete. reports not seriously dealt with so much red tape in order to give proper care. Moral is seriously an all time low more than mentioned here than it has ever been. In the past year many staff resigned, quit who were not happy working in this enviroment. Totally feel for the care for the residents they are the ones suffering, they deserve better.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The best part of working at Albright, but it was the residents and this stuff on my shift was amazing. We communicated and worked together.

The most stressful part was short staffed

We all work together a communication was good and when it wasn’t, we found a way

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Busy bee in the dementia word, especially

Management was absolutely useless in every aspect, they were not able to properly staff with one like having all the employees and the other having very few, all of whom were burnt out because they would not restructure the schedule. They also never listened to staff needs, we’re impossible to get PPE from during outbreaks and had little regard for their employees overall. There were recreation staff but they were given very little time and resources and support to provide programs for the residents. They company does a terrible job at making sure staff and residents alike are taken care of

Staff here are close-knit, care a lot about the residents and each other. There has been a lot of need for extra help from agency staff, and staff moving from floor to floor to cover shortages but the management seems to be aware and actually actively  working on the problem. They have changed over in the past 6-8 months and seem to be trying to listen to what people are saying. I have been in several LTC environments and this is one of my favourites, mainly for the great people to work with who really care and still have a good sense of humour day to day.

Albright  is about 70% part time staff. It's  very hard to get full time because  when a full time job is available it goes  by seniority.  Which  is rightly so, but it takes a number  of years to become  full-time.  Plus  Albright  treats their part time staff poorly. No benefits,  no option on banking vacation  pay, no stat pay on a stat holiday. To get full time hours a part-time  staff has to say yes to a lot  of  call ins, which  means working 7 to maybe 10 days straight. Even the Union favors full time staff yet its mostly part-timers that pay the Union  dues.  

This facility is understaffed and provides a no support from management  causing a high turn over of staff.  
While employed there I worked with many hard working front line workers. Unfortunately due to the lack of support from management and the consistency of staff shortages these workers had to leave. 
With the needs and demands of the residents increasing and the support from the upper management decreasing how could anyone stay there.
