As a Manager-In-Training a typical day at work would include coaching every sales associate and key holder with their sales quota, ensuring that there is proper visual presentation on new merchandise, and providing customer service. I am required to not only meet my own sales quota for the day and the week, but also the entire budget of the whole store.

I learned how to handle dissatisfied and distressed customers more calmly and effectively. For instance, customers who are not satisfied with the quality of the merchandise are given different options such as return, exchange, and replace.

The manager that I worked with was very optimistic and motivational with the team. The only downfall is the management higher than that which includes the District Manager. I found that work ethic of District Managers vary in the company. For instance, my previous district manager was able to visit and supervise the store at least once a week in order to ensure that the employees were able to commit to tasks. On another hand, the current district manager is only able to visit and supervise the store once a month, which limits his knowledge of his employees and the customers that are being served.

Co-workers all have the same goal, which is to meet their sales quota for the day. Even though everyone's goals are individual quotas, we also act as a team since everyone help each other to meet their quotas.

The hardest part of the job is theft issues. Since the store is located in the heart of downtown and the volume of people entering the store per hour could be over 300, it is sometimes quite difficult to ensure that items are not being stolen especially with the most 5 employees working during the busy hours.

The most enjoyable part of the job is to meet new people and knowing that they are satisfied with the merchandise you've helped them decide on.

Co-workers and management were supportive, understanding and great to work with. Often management had very unrealistic expectations and restrictions placed on part-time sales associates that caused a very stressful environment. There are daily and weekly quotas to fill that are extremely difficult to reach. 

The most difficult part was attempting to reach and maintain unrealistic quotas (with shoes, purses, shoe care, accessories, etc) while also not making commission on any sales or achieved goals as a part time worker. Another difficult part was, on closing shifts, never getting off at scheduled time, sometimes, up to an extra hour or more. Also there is a requirement to purchase and wear ALDO shoes during working hours, with limited employee discounts. The company should provide the shoes to employees if it is a mandatory requirement (which was not stated during the hiring process either). Furthermore, the district manager of ALDO is allowed to visit your store at anytime (announced or unannounced) and fire anyone on the spot who is not wearing ALDO shoes at the time. Employees are also required to follow a "style guide" or dress code, which if not followed correctly or up to the standards of your manager, you could be sent to buy a brand new outfit at the mall you are working at or sent home to change and return to work, all while not being paid.

The best part of the job was working with my amazing team of co-workers and the (mostly) great guest interactions from day to day.

I really tried to give Aldo a chance because I believe they are fundamentally a good company but they need A LOT of improvement. Management is very pushy with their numbers which is to be expected in any retail environment, but they really don't give you the tools to succeed or to lead a team. It's an absolute mess on a store level where head office constantly shifts and manoeuvres who is manager and where, leaving teams feel unsupported. In general, most of us do way more what our job description with no tools and no pay to reflect the constant overtime and hard work. The salary is extremely unfair and head office seems so detached from what actually goes on on a store level. How can you run a business without knowing the intricacies of how your company is currently running and the work people are actually putting in? This whole company is a game of broken telephone. In general, the people in high positions at Aldo are really sweet and very accessible, but there is a real lack of action. Overall, I loved the company but I leave feeling extremely disappointed with their wasted potential. I hope they put their ear to the ground sometime soon before everyone walks out

My experience was mostly positive working for Aldo, the pay was good, job duties were good, you could apply your own creativity in some ways, always something to do, learned a lot about sales. However there were a couple things that really left a bad taste in my mouth about this company. I made a pros and cons list. But for me specifically I was promised a promotion and asked to do a lot of work outside of my job description to *prepare* me for my promotion. However it was just to get me to do extra work for less pay, and they promoted someone much less qualified that was friends with the person handling the promotion. And after I resigned which I did very nicely, they never answered and have just completed ghosted me now. Which is not the end of the world but it says a lot about the company. I only recommend working here if you're looking for a job during school, or are ok with no movement internally.

The sales director for majority of Canada is very entitled and looks down on people, and isn't very friendly a lot of the time. She is hard to work for. 
Fire people for ridiculous reasons.

Ok so let me begin. When I started working, it was nice and people were nice. The manager was nice as well. But you would have to grab shoes based on the number thing and give it to the customer. let me tell u i didnt know how they organized the shoes and where they put what. So the manager would get mad when i dont get the shoe in 1 minute because the cutomer is waiting. so im lke ok i gotta figure this out. FACT #1: they will provide no training at all...nothing u just start. they wont tell u anything and just expect that you know how to find stuff. If your looking for the good part time job, this is not it. they call you for 4 hours a week ok and tell you that in those 4 hours you have to get 1500 dollars in shoes from people and about 50 dollars in shoe care. In 4 HOURS. I MEAN IS THIS A JOKE. I tried so hard to learn stuff and to know how the store works. I tried so hard. She texts me and says we need to talk. OK so im like just tell me what and then she didnt reply. I mean I saw it coming from her attitude. I go in the store the next day and shes like im sorry this jobs isnt working out. Im like ok whatever. This women had the audasity to say Im not right for this job but cant teach anyone how to do it. A manager needs to be someone who can take someone who just started the job and make them better not fire them if they have never done this before. Im done. Aldo can go die for all I care.

Aldo was my first job after I moved to Canada. I started right after graduating from my Master's. I am grateful for the opportunity and I learned a lot specially about Excel and collaborating with peers in different areas of the organization.
At that time my division was growing a lot and things were not very organized. The only constant was change... And I'm not opposed to improving/changing things but changes every 3-6months was a little too much. During my almost 2 years at Aldo I had 5 different managers. My team was also constantly changing. By the time I left I was one of the senior/more experienced planners with a little less than 2 years of experience. 
Salaries are also very low. Even for entry-level... In other companies they pay better. But they rely on young people always looking for the opportunity to work there so they won't pay higher salaries. 
They give good discounts on merchandise. Vacation was only 2 weeks. And health insurance benefits and pension plan only starts after having worked for a number of years. I never received those benefits.
If I think back at time at Aldo, it didn't leave a possitive impression but when I think about the things I learned, the skills I learned and the nice people I met, I feel that overall it wasn't so bad.

I got hired as an account coordinator for Europe (work with people in Switzerland). On my first day, I showed up at the head office in St Laurent and found a deserted place with no one to welcome me. The IT guy handed me a laptop and told me “you don’t have a workday yet so I don’t have any credentials for you, but good luck”. Again, no one talked to me, showed me around nor took the time to give any guidance whatsoever. I settled in an empty room on the main floor (place was deserted, I don’t even know if I was allowed to go there) and on my first virtual meeting with my team in Europe, I realized the mistake I did in accepting working for Aldo. 
I never received any guidance, training, explanation, material or ressources of any kind about what I was supposed to do in my new position and how. My days consisted in random meetings about random topics with random people from all around Europe. I was supposed to listen to them to eventually figure out what my job was while trying to understand what the hundreds of emails I would receive meant. Everything was incredibly disorganized without any communication nor explanation about anything, with all employees blaming the “email migration to a new server” to justify this chaos. I tried at first, but after 8 days of work and still not knowing what my job was, I left the masquerade. Incredibly disappointing.

I worked my way up from the Store level to head office.  It was much more difficult in stores than at the office, however there was ALWAYS work to do and you are ALWAYS BUSY.... down time is non-existent.

Be prepared to work hard and push yourself to your limits. The company is well known for underpaying their employees within the industry and will make you work as hard as possible for it too.  My suggestion.... work there for a bit to get it on your resume if you are interested in the fashion industry and get out before you can't anymore.

They are going through a MAJOR company transition with a new CEO, which could be good or bad, I didn't stay long enough to find out. The department I was in many people were let go and many just left on their own.

The culture of the company is fantastic and was always one of the reasons I stayed as long as I did.  The atmosphere can be very catty given it is in the fashion industry, but as long as you stay out of the politics you can get far.  If you are good at what you do, don't hesitate to push for what you want and know that it is possible to get there.

I love Aldo, and I love fashion. Keeping up with the trends and being able to incorporate the latest trends into my wardrobe, is a passion of mine. I was promoted to sales lead/key holder. Being promoted showcases my hard work, my selling and promoting skills, and my knowledge of the brand. I worked hard to make my individual shift goals, and our team numbers.

As key holder, I was also given more responsibilities, such as: locking up the store, managing the stores deposit, being on the floor solo and filling out the agenda; these all show my leadership skills, and teamwork abilities. I have been taught the importance of knowing the Aldo brand, staying gold, and I am aware of the daily, weekly, and monthly budgets. I am familiar with POS, shipping, stock, and VP as well.

I employ persuasive communications while implementing unique sale techniques, including proactive sales techniques; customer needs assessment and options for purchasing. These activities have proven to boost sales and market penetration because I successfully build trust and credibility with clients 

Use of above-average listening skills and communication to quickly build and maintain productive ties with clients and returning customers.

a typical day at work would start off with counting the registers to make sure they balance. Every Tuesdays and Thursday we get shipment, so I am responsible for merchandising all the new handbags and accessories. Also, I maintain and organize the accessories sections in the stock room.

My main responsibility is cashing customers out, maintaining my sections throughout the day and keeping the registers balanced. I help out on the sales floor when it's busy and if someone calls in sick. When I am on the sales floor I've learnt how to multitask by helping several customers at time and sometimes I would have to operate the cash as well. Over the years of working at Aldo, I've mastered the ability to maximize with every customer by up selling products that go with their purchase. 

The hardest part of the job would be when there isn't enough floor coverage because we have to cut hours. This becomes increasingly difficult when we have a huge end of the year sale.

Overall, Aldo is a fun and fast-paced place to work at, when there are no problems.
