this job was a camp job in saskatchewan, at the bhp billiton lanigan mine. the day would start and end with a 45 minute bus ride from camp to the mine. the first hour or so of everyday was all about safety. going over the tasks for the day, who was doing what, and the safety measures that we would be taking for each task. we'd then proceede to our work area where i'd fill out my JHA (job hazard assesment) for the morning, then i'd have to get my foreman to sign off on it. then there was a on site toolbox meeting where we'd all put our heads together to pick out any possible hazards that needed to be addressed before our work was to begin. while at this job i helped form  4- 200x80 slabs for the 2 hoist houses and the 2 collar houses. i also helped pre-fabricate 2-36x20x36 hexagon forms that we flew in with the crane to form the top of both the service and production shafts. this job was a great job from top to bottom. the hardest part of this job was being away from my family and the long hours (13 hours a day for 14 days straight) the best part of the job was the amount of planning and safety involved with each and every job big or small. you always knew you were being looked out for.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
No stressful days for me, it’s a great company with no drama and safety is key.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
They treat everyone the same, being a minority I was treated with respect. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Early morning safety meeting, spot check on equipment, work for 12 hours then go home.

Family run business and way to many Family members and relations works there. They really have no clue how to do earth moving or utility work. They are carpenters who run equipment and wreck it. A very clicky company and if you don't stand up for yourself they wont treat you good, like i have seen with other employees. 

Fast paced environment, must know how too drive all pieces of equipment, liked working with the guys. Was upset that they laid me off, enjoyed working for Allen construction. Pay was a little low for experienced operator that I was. Felt like it was more family Oriented worksite and now matter how hard I tried to impress the higher up, just felt like I couldn’t climb the ladder fast enough. All in all good place too work

This company is terrible.  They don't care about employees at all and the supervisors are a joke.
They pretend they know what they are doing and when things go wrong they blame the employees.
They do not pay good at all and have inexperienced, unethical, immature individuals trying to make decisions.
They do not teach anyone anything and do not value employees


I was originally hired for a contract at a new potash mine being built in Saskatchewan where I handled the entire safety aspect from the ground up. After 2 1/2yrs I moved to the other various sites throughout Saskatoon/Area and performed site inspections.

Awesome people to work with and the management actually cared about the workers which was a nice change of pace.

Was fast -paced work with extensive safety measures. 12 hour day with adequate breaks. 

Seemed like too many bosses in the workplace.

Hardest part of the job was trying to the job right while other people didn't follow proper instructions and procedures.

Most enjoyable was getting the job done within time limits.

The job is very labour intensive and repetitive.  The crews are not very big which is a good thing.  The pay is standard when compared to other companies in the industry.  The company is small which makes it very difficult to climb the ladder within the company.

Over all not bad. Lower on the pay scale. Only select inner group get advancement.
Foreman’s very short tempered. Noticeably treated as a worker.. bosses had noses in the air and would often not even acknowledge you throughout the day.
Stay in your lane and do your job and you will be fine.

Ownership could care less about you. But remember if they could find people to do the work for less and make more money they wood. At the end of the day your simply a means to an end and treated as such.
