A typical day at ALSA can get a little hectic. Some days are obviously better than others but the days when you feel like pulling your hair out outnumber those that you don't. "Passing the buck" seems to be something some people cant get away from where others will accept blame when clearly there is little to no fault. TEAM...

Crosstraining is available to those who are interested in learning new things but you have to be adamant about learning and doing new things or you may be sequestered to your specific job. 

Management is great IMO. From my experience this is a young team with experience injected in. Admittedly I do not have very much interaction with the management team directly, but it seems ALSA is willing to bring in new people as well as promote from within and give both parties the ability to learn and make mistakes. 

Workplace is generally a good atmosphere. There is a very high Racial/Cultural/Religious diversity throughout the company and I genuinely believe this is a great thing. Culture is VERY family oriented. Most of the people I have met at ALSA has had or currently has a family member working at ALSA. There have been events in the past where family is invited as well as volunteer projects that ALSA encourages all employees and family members to join. 

At the end of the day, ALSA is a good company to work for. They are trying to be proactive as possible when it comes to safety and at the end of the day that is the most important thing. Management takes the time at the end of every year to get feedback form those who feel the need to give it. From a new labour to a 15 year manager your voice is heard. HR is also being proactive with employee relations and making it easier to approach them and ask questions.

Lastly, the Daycare/Gym.

FREE Daycare-
ALSA offers FREE daycare to those who qualify. If you are a field worker, you can kiss this opportunity goodbye. Daycare is available 8:00am-4:30pm for full time care and as you can see it leaves very little room for a significant other to use this service if they also have a full time job. If you secure a job in the office or even in the shop this service is PRICELESS. You have free full time care with wonderful caregiver and you can have lunch with your little one every day. 

FREE Gym-
I was really looking forward to this. It just doesn't have whats needed. Any current employee has 24 hr access to the gym. If you are on lay off you have access during business hrs. Again, if you work in the office or the shop this is PRICELESS but not very useful for field workers.

The typical day was really the same; stressful, sporadic, and rarely a calm moment. There are always seemed to be different people involved in my day to day goals which made my goals change constantly. Everyone became confused continuously due to the changes and caused a lot of turnover and frustration. The employers often did not trust their employees with simple tasks and micro-managed a lot and assumed the worst from their employees. The one owner didn't even introduce himself until 3 months into my job. It was a temporary position that was extended from 3 months to 10 months and I did receive a raise in the first month of starting my job. I did do a successful job until the position was no longer needed and I was laid off. The most enjoyable part I would have to say was the few coworkers that I did work with. They were a great group of people who shared in the frustrations with me, however were very encouraging and light hearted.

Run far away as fast as you can from this company! They are highly abusive to contract truck drivers. They make you work long, hard hours, sometimes to after dark, screaming and yelling at you all day. They fill out their time sheets incorrectly and often you have to run after the foremen to chase them down to get your time sheets and it can take days. It is a badly managed outfit and they do not care about their truck drivers. You will have to go to Employment Standards to get paid from your employer who contracts to them. The foremen will withhold, or even confiscate your time sheets as a form of abuse of power. You never get told you are doing a good job. It is just soul-destroying working for them. They have a very high turnover rate. I have worked there 3 times and never will work for them again!

it is a good place to work if you need a good salary and benifits but not recommended if you have a team effort mind and family mind set, company always say it is a family oriented place but it's NOT, supervisor is being driven by the upper management, can't blame him as i seen the situation even for a short period of time, in my crew half of people does not work only talks, unsafe work practices are always present, management doesn't do anything but wonder how they achieve safe work place, i hope they will be check for that. 
Higher Manager's are driving the lower Manager's Crazy that's i got fired no proper training for us operator and you can't even make a suggestions.

My experience there is a total waste of time. And  just becoming another statistic , the owners were very isolated  from what was actually happening there are unskilled and un trained people working and managing in critical areas  lots of blame passing. Your schedule changes every other week.the indeviual employees are OK just a one stop place if you need a salary. Very high turn over  Iv seen them go through more than 20 mechanics in a year.are all those mechanics no good. Or is there something wrong in management my advice is its better to wait for the next job total waste of time

The work was challenging enough and stress levels are okay - some days extremely busy, others very relaxed. 

Everyone was very amicable, approachable, and welcoming - you can joke around with everyone, even upper management.

Not much for advancement since most of the employees have been with the company for years. Great salary and benefits, though.

Very good people to work for. Exsessive hours and seasonal nature plus very weather dependent made job a little stressful. Lack of contracts this year had me sitting at home this season. There is a language problem at times due to many of the employees and subcontractors english was thier second laguage

This company's shop is a disaster.  I would not recommend unless you are completely desperate or have no spine it's like following orders like the military and to add that they will say one thing to your face while they sharpen the knife for your back.

Company employess influnace managment in a negative way. Owners should view employee basied on proformace on and not on supervisors word of mouth, share holders may influance outcome of good employees.

A comeplete waste of time working for these guys  you will feel better  working with n a dump trust me  they have no respect for em Loves I can’t believe that this happens Canada in the. Year 2017
