Interview trip was paid for. HR required extensive health testing (ex.: eye health), which took several weeks. Relocation was paid for as well. Company was owned by a massive international corporation headquartered in India, so their demands would keep operational activities from becoming stagnant.

Supervisor wasn't familiar with the team's functions and procedures and leaned on an experienced clerk, not only for my training but also for the financial closes. Supervisor was also very disorganized and would make urgent, last-minute requests. His tone was generally condescending and unappreciative.

Clerks were part of a union so they weren't always cooperative with change and regularly showed attitude toward me and my supervisor; they were difficult to deal with, some more than others.

IT equipment was dated and I regularly had issues with VPN connectivity. Location was in a small town, which was very scenic but had no public transportation; great for nature lovers.

Very poorly managed business by an unskilled group of misfits to say the least. The current management has little to no experience in operating a pulp mill.  Different set of standards and rules for different folks within management depending on who you know. Minimal technical experience left at the mill and even worse zero leadership. Constant fighting between the unionized employees and management makes for a toxic work environment. Pay is low for pulp and paper standards and with the constant break downs  you in the mill 24/7 with no compensation. To say there is absolutely no work home life balance is an understatement. You will be worked far beyond any fair or reasonable hours. Absolutely zero respect for employees with an If you don't like it leave" attitude. Forget about thinking for yourself just do what your told by manager. any high performers exit the company to move to other mills within 2 to 3 years. Do your home work before working for this company ( AV Group NB Inc or previously AV Nackawic) The mill has become the laughing stock of the Saint John River Valley.

This is quite possibly where careers go to die. The work culture is extremely toxic and promotes bullying. Very poor environment with dated and poorly maintained equipment. Plan to work late most evenings and weekends due to frequent equipment failures. Don't plan to be paid for your donation of your time and effort. Required to be on call and available 24/7. Shut your phone off. I dont think so. 
Prior to accepting employment with this group please do your homework. Ask yourself why the turn over rate is so high? Contact a former employer or even a current employee. 

I do not have anything good to say about my experience, right from the first walk through in which I was told by my supervisor: if you see anything dripping from overhead, assume it’s acid !! It’s hard to move on from that. From there there was a lot of pettiness starting with management right down line.
About the only positive is that it’s an easy job, not really a high pressure or stressful work place. There is a 4 day work week but if you don’t volunteer to work on your day off your looked down upon by everyone.

AV Group is a great place to challenge yourself, learn, and try new things. I took on projects and responsibilities that I wouldn't have had the opportunity to elsewhere. The workplace culture is the biggest challenge but management has begun making the changes needed to move past these issues.

There are a lot of great people that work here on staff and in the union. I'm glad I had the opportunity to work there.

The work atmosphere is toxic, hourly employees are not happy and the staff is stressed out. Very poor leadership right from the top. Some managers don't even know their way through the mill and seem technically inept. Mill runs poorly and shutdowns are just chaos. Most of the knowledgeable employees were fired.

Friendy coworkers and staff for the most part. Big equipment reliability issues due to management refusing to repair equipment until the process cant continue anymore.

Wages are good but less than regular industry comparables by about a decade.

Company has problems getting supplies because they dont pay bills in a timely manner



Nice Environment to work. People easy to get along with. The hardest part of the job for me is I am learning as thing happens as they had no Permanent Nurse at the time of my hiring. I am learning a lot about Industrial Nursing/Occupational Nursing Field which I love.

Bad decisions and inexperienced management run this process to failure regularly. The safety system is a joke and the place is a horrible mess. Scary but will probably close due to poor reliability. Invest your career in a company that can provide dependable retirement.

This place is a disaster.  Extremely bad management, very low moral, lots of union infighting.  Owned by a company from India, and they try to run it like it's still in India.  management has zero job security and high turnover for operations. The place is a  hole at the best of times
