The barrie office staff are great, however, this company is dishonest right from the get go in their job ad. There is NO BASE PAY WHAT SO EVER until you begin to book upwards of 15 appointments a week (which will take you months to get up to achieve) only then will the company hire you on and actually pay you a base pay. Otherwise, you will only get paid in commissions IF you manage to actually book an appointment AND the senior consultant is able to persuade the people to sign a 1,3 or 5 year contract, if no contract is signed you will not get paid for anything you did, no matter how much time you spent recruting that appointment.Then, if a contract is signed, you get paid a 5% commission based on their hydro consumption over a 12 month period. Then it takes upwards of a month or more to even get that commission paid to you. 

Once I completed the whole hour and a half of training ( you can imagine how indepth into energy and market prices we got in a whole hour eh......absolutely pitiful training), then I was expected to just jump on the phone and start cold calling companies, that have been printed off of the yellowpages website; they do not even have a client database; and lie to them and dance around the bush with information to get them to book and appointment with the senior consultant. If you do not enjoy lying to people, cold calling, and not being trained properly, then DO NOT APPLY FOR THIS COMPANY.

BE WARNED. This position gives NO hourly pay, NO base and NO salary. If you like to work for free, or want to get a little volunteer experience, then you may want to work here. Other than that, if you're actually looking for a real job that pays, don't be fooled! Whoever wrote that this position as a appointment setter can make you "lots of money" are LIARS. This is a totally commissioned based position. Very hard to make appointments because it's cold calling. If you manage to get 5 appointments one week, they will give you a measly 100 bucks. If you manage to get 10 appointments one week, you get a measly 200 bucks. If you get 4 appointments or none one weak, tough luck, you get NO MONEY that week! They will try to convince you on the commission but I worked there for two whole months, got some appointments, and didn't see even one commission deal!! NONE. Don't get me wrong, I don't know about the other positions in this company, but as for the inside appointment setter, or scheduling agent or consultant or whatever the call it, YOU GET NO DECENT MONEY, UNLESS, big deals close.....which I didn't even see in those months I worked. Don't waste your time!

I have read reviews on this company, and I do not find it accurate. I would imagine the ones who wrote the review just didn't get there way. I started as a inside sales agent in November of 2013. they always treated me as a important member at there office. they worked hard to ensure customers were taken care off an were very clear on details with the customers. they only work on the business's. for the ones who said the business has lied, doesn't make any sence because in order to keep your licencing you must always be honest and fix any complaints you have with the Ontario energy board. so if the business was misleading they wouldn't be able to operate. I was able to advance as an outside agent very quickly. an due to my own illnesses I had to take a break away from active. but they are one place I will stand up for, I had a great experience.

Positive attitude from all employees in the organization. Always willing to help and provide support through the entire training process and the sales cycle - a true team approach. Everyone pitches in for the success of the sale and the success of the sales rep. Customers are provided with accurate analysis of the sales cycle as well as the benefits and risks.Customer solutions are based on building partnerships in the long term. You are your own boss and you need to be committed and motivated to be successful. If the effort is there you will be moving forward towards financial success. Great opportunities for a sales representative .

My work with Active Business Services entailed contacting senior executives and independent entrepreneurs and represent various energy plans for electricity and natural gas.  The most enjoyable part of the job was leaning the secrets of technical analysis which permitted me to identify the 13.5 year low on the price of natural gas ($1.99US mmbtu)..

    A typical work day included making 150/200 cold calls per day, which would result in 50 conversation with businessmen and an average of one to two appointments per day.

     The workplace culture was enjoyable for commeraderie of the salesmen and the supportive attitude of the management.

I worked collections trying to explain to people that don't speak English that it didn't matter if the housewife who answered the door and was pressured into signing up for some "energy saving program", that they were now responsible for paying usually between $800-2500 in fees, and could only cancel provided identification the person was over the age of 65 or dead.  Morally, I could not do this job.  Example: they had signed up an elderly lady who was 96 years old, and because she had no other family around and of course she had no idea how to fax in her info, I had to tell her (in tears) that she waas still responsible for paying $1500 in cancellation fees AND her outrageous outstanding bills. That was the end of that.

I have worked with this company for sometime now as a scheduling agent, I see how successful the scheduling agents can be when they try. The people who write nasty things here for a review are the ones who could not do the job and had no other choice but to leave. This is an easy job and when its done right there is a lot of money to be made. As for the base pay yes they do pay this out each week for the people who can do the job that is. The commission is great and is paid out within a week. For all those who want to apply or have had their interview don't let a few fools that could not do the job in the first place put bad thoughts in your head. Go and see for yourself and you made the decision.

I switched jobs mid career. I have years of experience working in a chemical processing plant but due to middle management cutbacks, I was forced out with severance pay (thankfully). It took me a good 6 months to find the position at Active Business Services but I’m so glad everything worked out.  I’ve been with the company for short of a year and really enjoy the change of pace from my last job.  I get to interact with customers more than before and get out of the office.  You can tell the team really gets along and has each others backs.  They even do game nights outside of work - so i like that sort of family atmosphere.

I wasn't sure what to expect of the office environment at Active after  leaving a toxic workplace before taking their offer, but I didn't need to worry. The environment here is the total opposite and I feel like a valued member of the team from the top down. Before I left my last position at my previous company, I literally wanted to quit everyday. The management was condescending and the overall morale was very, very low. Now I'm talked to like I'm a human being and what's more important, I am getting positive feedback about my work. Such a breath of fresh air!

I started here in 2016 working as an appointment setter and moved my way up to a consultant.  Honestly I never thought my career would take me to learning and relaying information about energy rates and how to reduce costs,  but here I am.  I attribute my career shift to some of the mentors at the company who taught me what I know today … my interest in becoming an energy consultant peaked about 3 years ago but Im still very much into the energy industry.  I almost call myself an energy nerd now.
