Calgary office is super dis-organized. It is mainly a contractor to a contractor for a large telecom company- wages are the LOWEST in the industry that I have seen. Work load is high and everyone seems stressed and rushed to do things at the last minute. Very little training, you have to provide ALL Your own tools and safety equipment. 

Foremen for the inside crews had no leadership training or ability to lead (at least that I saw) Little if any work plans or structure for jobs passed on to the onsite crews.

The Calgary Office Management— have really no idea how to function as an efficient team. Everyone is constantly running around like a chicken with it's head cut off and sometimes things don't get done/or missed. There are always material shortages, and man-power shortages. Re-work and frustration is the norm. 

Wages are low, benefits are poor. 
They make you sign a document saying you will work for zero OT unless "authorized by the company".
You are expected to use EI if you are sick. 
No parking at sites - you have to pay for your own parking. 
They will not provide porta-johns on site.

No sense that any sort of moving up in the company will be possible. Certainly no system for pay/salary reviews and increases that I saw.

Constant fights from upper management to middle-management and mis-direction to the crews. (which leads to stress, anxiety and LOTS of rework)

Avoid this employer at all costs.


Ironically management is a decent bunch of people, the mid managers under the management are bad, and some of the employees are the worst, thats the real problem toxic environment.

if you do not fit in their click they( employees)  want you out. Pay is well below the rest of the competition think of this place as sorta like a placement agency even if your doing well with the client ( their customer) you may not be liked by their team internally and they may plot against you, way too much politics. If your new and learning this place might be actually not bad if you know something this place likely wont work out. Its ontario based so very volatile day in and day out. This is a hand to mouth company where they dont know where they have trouble moving their hand  to their mouth.

I worked as a installation and Repair Technician. While the job title and the job duties sounds like of a technician the job is all about sales only. Management doesn’t care about how good you are at actual work, at installation of security and internet devices, all they care about is how much sales you are making. Less sales results in less compensation and they terminate you at the end. 
So anyone thinking of joining Activo as a Installation and Repair tech, join if you can sell mobile plans to customers and family. 
They should change the title of job from I&R technician to Installation and Sales Tech.

Typical work day:
     • Long hours, long driving distance, no compensation for mileage
Learned:
     • Many new things about cabling and how to terminate.
Management:
     • South Western Ontario (SWO) manager was fantastic, the rest of the management team and many of the senior techs are very rude, will throw anyone and everyone under the first bus they can
Co-Workers:
     • Most techs were very nice and helpful, about 50% of the senior techs only care about them self and nothing else.
Hardest Part:
     • Long work hours with little pay, 0 compensation for mileage which really hurts your pocket.
Most Enjoyable:
     • Leaving for the day.

This company is a disgrace to the Telecommunications industry. They literally under appreciate all highly skilled technicians and they will under pay you like there is no tomorrow. if you want to work for this dysfunctional organization then be prepared to work your butt off and get peanuts for it. They don't care how much experience you have under your belt, they will not pay you fairly. They expect so much from you, including working all kinds of shifts and hours, travel very often for extended periods of time away from home and not properly reward you for it. Very shameful. 

Working at Activo was a great experience and knowledge. Activo merely works with infrastructure and INR, and Voice. It depends on what field you join. One is better than the others. Calgary branch can get slow as everyone else in this field because the oil industry has been slow for a few years. The manager always tries to keep you busy for slows days. 

The management is lacking as well as the communication. Activo is completely disorganized and very quick to dump everything they can on you as an employee. The pay is every employees biggest complaint as there is no such thing as a raise while employed with them. You will receive no support from management. Activo is a very reactive company and every job goes south due to poor planning. If you decide to work for them, good luck!

This company wants the best of both worlds. They hire you as a contractor but they pay you as an employee.  They measure your productivity with a vast array of metrics that are unfairly favored towards the company.  As a technician, you get paid a piece rate and the workload is not steady.  There is alot of work that you have to do in your own time that you dont get paid for.

It's a good job if you like travelling and are good with dealing with customers they have good earning opportunities but the compensation has kept on decreasing little by little and the only drawback is they take questions and concerns from technicians but have never really answered them or tried to get back with the solution so you just have to kinds roll with whatever changes happen even if you like it or not

My day starts with ticket and schedule of Telus service ticket and updates on the previous task.
Faced challenges of new technology and continuous knowledge. 
The management is flexible in the demands of the customer and field support.
My co-workers are very willing to lend a helping had and support.
Hardest part is the slow down in work.
Accomplishing things(or task)  I thought I would not achieve.
