Affinity Credit Union

Affinity Credit Union is a really diverse and inclusive workplace. During my employment there I never had a dull moment. The managers are willing to develop you and help you be successful, further more they are also willing to bet on you even if you may not have a lot of experience in a specific area. This allows you to really show case your skills and be successful. 

They have excellent employee engagement, fantastic benefits, and good career development. 

The only con, which sometimes is a pro, is that a lot of locations are unionized. The union "supports" the employees by negotiating contracts, but they also make everyone follow the seniority promotion ladder really closely. Could be harder to advance if the role you are applying for is unionized, especially if some who worked for 20 years wants the same role. 

All in all, I would definitely come back to Affinity Credit Union if opportunity presents itself.

We serve the public in a professional atmosphere and you learn to cope with different issues that arise.  The members are mostly very enjoyable to deal with and they like to joke around with the staff. 
The hardest part is it is very sales oriented and we don't have the walk in traffic that we used to have so the sales are definitely harder to achieve.
Management is understanding as they have their goals to make as well.  We work as a team to try to reach our numbers every year.

What was once a grass roots credit union, has transformed into a pushy sales hungry bank. While the pay is quite high compared to industry standard levels, the work load is mounting to levels to which you are unable to perform your job. Staff are told they are not salesmen, but their targets are set to grow their book of business by thirty percent annually. Call nights for campaigns to solicit business, and encouraging members to purchase products which are not suitable fits for fear of losing our jobs.

In the position I work in, it is very demanding, we are not paid enough for what we do. The demands are high, and recognition is poor. The contact centre is a revolving door because they only focus on what is being done wrong, and not everything that is right. When they do, it's because they have spent an hour telling us how bad we are doing.

Working at Affinity was a great experience. The employees there are diversified and well trained. The management treats employees with lots of respect and easy to communicate with. Benefits there were really good and salary was higher than other FI's with the same level of employment. You also gets opportunities to improve yourself if you desire. I would highly recommend this company as a employer.

For many years I loved working here. I had an amazing team, great benefits, and a job that matched with my values. 
I would still definitely recommend working here - just not in HR. The power dynamics in that department have really taken a turn for the worse. If you aren't willing to play into office politics, you will be pushed out. Also having a departmental restructure for the third time in seven years is a bit of a red flag for me. 

Tl;dr: Great place to work, but stay away from HR

Affinity used to be an awesome place to work. But it went downhill after a reorganization happened a few years back. Overly stressful days with not enough staff sadly have become the norm. A lot of pressure for targets and not enough support to help you get there become your every day life. The union is the only reason there is still good pay and benefits. 

Very pushy sales targets and sales tactics. Seem to be more like a bank than a credit union.  Executives out of touch with people lower down. Not enough training for current positions after massive restructure. Staff are overworked and expected to do more and more.

No longer a “Credit  Union”.  Just another financial institution They have lost their roots.. Huge pressure for sales. Currently re-structuring and they are letting a lot of great employees walk out the door. Re-structuring process is unfair, chaotic and disorganized. Very unfair to some long term employees.

It is overall an excellent place to work. The company tries to create an environment where everyone is respected. There is continuous training and flexibility with work. Salaries may not be the highest in town, but overall, I have enjoyed my time here.
