What is the best part of working at the company?
If you want to work alongside exotic animals, ALS is fantastic. Being up close and personal with lions, rhinos, and giraffes is unmatched - assuming you are an animal care attendant (I read a review of a ticket booth employee mad they didn't get to see animals daily). The coworkers are also a fun part of the daily routine, the park rotates a lot of seasonal students each summer whom are all animal lovers so it is easy to get along. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The most stressful part of working at ALS is dealing with customers and management. Customers are always trying to break the rules, and get upset by any enforcement. Luckily most days you aren't dealing with guests directly, and supervisors ALWAYS have your back if someone is being difficult. Management at ALS is strange, there is a point in seniority where supervisors forget they were once "seasonals" (the term for temporary employees) and behave rudely towards them. It is a high stress environment on busy days, and sometimes that stress is taken out on seasonals if they make a simple mistake. There is a tense atmosphere throughout the park, everyone is scared to say anything from fear of retaliation - a concept which even pertains to permanent staff. Problems are well known but go without fixing due to this. As a seasonal employee you are given the grunt-work, which is understandable, however when there is exclusively grunt-work needed to be done, many of the supervisors will stand-by and watch the seasonals rather than help them finish sooner (this is not universal to all supervisors, some certainly work far harder than others).

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work environment is highly dependent on the park's business and your daily position. On busy days on a highly customer-interacting position you will hate your life, whereas on quiet days you can be dozing off from boredom. Work environment is hostile due to circumstances I said before. From the seasonal perspective, It is a lot of doing the labor while your superior officers cozy up in their trucks between doing more desirable work with the animals directly. Also there is a high degree of secrecy regarding everything in the park. I can truly state the animals are all cared for by people who love them, if the full time employees didn't love the animals there would be literally no incentive to endure the trauma of the park as career pathways are nonexistent and the work-life balance is nonexistent. This does not mean that management would not cut corners wherever they feel able to, but all the animals are happy. The secrecy is that everything is HIGHLY "need-to-know" basis. An animal can die a natural death and it is expected of everyone to act like death isn't real and every animal is immortal they just never existed. This secrecy is frustrating as sometimes your role is directly effected by not knowing, such as a different number of animals in a section that you are supposed to know all of their whereabouts so you panic.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Highly dependent on your daily position. There are about 10 roles you will be trained for over your summer. Some days you can be spending hours cleaning barns, others the entire day standing still in the sun, others the entire day enjoying radio and air conditioning in a truck. You will have a favorite position as well as ones you hate, unfortunately you have no influence in what you get and what is supposedly random assignment can sometimes feel tampered with. These roles are sandwiched on both sides by morning and evening chores which are usually a mix of cleaning, yard work, or animal feed preparation.

Will take all energy, you could be working in the hottest place and they will not give you a break! Working in kitchen is bad, i barley had energy and so many people asked if i was okay, i lied and said yes. Get no break and give you 30 mins less for time needed for a break but you can be working longer and then blame the schedule. And because it said under time for break they use that to not give you one if you work more then their “needed hours” which is 5 hours in the middle of the summer and in a kitchen THIS IS YOUR SIGN NOT TO WORK HERE! Didnt show up one time and was completely pushed off team for the closing week and gave me no hours. They take money away from you “for break time” i could would all day there and only get one 30 min break for the entire day i was there. They do not care about your mental health or physical health, its not hard but when your worked like a dog everything just feels so heavy. I hate this place and will never go back. Everyone asks and i say no, cant say one nice thing. Have a nice day.

There are a variety of positions that are done at the Safari. I worked in the food service sector of the park.  I am the type of person who likes to keep busy or I start getting into mischief, there is no shortage of work at the safari there are lots of opportunities to work in multiple places of the park, and most are all enjoyable. Working with people who are younger and older than myself have helped me understand and have a great respect for people. 
The people there are great to work with and as long as you do your job fast and efficiently they will have no problem with you working along side them.
The hardest part of the job is not getting dirty. Working with different types of food and machinery can get someone pretty dirty really fast. 
The management was always done there job to the best degree possible and accommodates everyone no matter staff or customer with equality and respect.

Very strange work environment, feels like working in a big box store or retail where you're treated as a number rather than a person despite being a family owned business. Management will lure you into asking questions and then respond condescendingly and snide as if you are dumb for not already knowing the answers even if you're new. No one in this department gets near enough hours or even the hours stated you'd get in the job application, everyone is unhappy except the few employees that benefit from favoritism, and communication about new weekly updates is poorly communicated despite the management having access to both our phone numbers and emails. Also the supervisors have a private Facebook group where they'll talk about the newer employees so everyone has to tip toe around employees that have been there for more than a summer. The only upside is that the newer employees are all treated equally poorly so you don't feel alone in your stress.

Working at the Safari was a trip honestly. The company itself is weird enough, but considering how straight forward selling tickets sounds there is always some extreme event happening at every shift. Some days flew by, others took years. Also I would randomly work at the gas station on site or the animal rides and really never knew what would be in store when I showed up for work. I was usually sent home between noon and 4 depending on the day, but sometimes would be there until close. I worked another job at night and balancing the two was a nightmare! You get a start time but not an end so calculating weekly hours before the fact is impossible. The people you work with make this job because you are stuck in a spider infested wooden booth in direct sunlight with them for up to 8 hours. It is very hard to be good at this job because there is so much going on, so if you do not do well under pressure this is not for you!

After working in various other animal care industries including other zoos, I can very confidently say that the management of the game farm (giraffes, lions, etc.) is appalling. Both animals and staff are treated with zero respect, research is conducted on sick and dying animals by people with absolutely no educational background in research and staff that attempt to speak out about these issues are immediately demoted or fired, this is unfortunately what happened to me as well as many of my co-workers. When hiring new staff the tactic is to hire people with the least amount of animal experience because they "ask less questions", and that's a direct quote. This company is honestly just cruel and completely in it for the money only.

Worked in the parks department as an animal attendant. I got to see and work with a wide variety of animals on a daily basis as well as ensuring the safety of animal-human/ human-animal interaction.
Minimum Wage, with some limited opportunity for advancement. If you are hoping to make a lot of money, probably not the job for you - over-time is rarely given. But the experience is worth it at all times.

Long hours (which I didn’t mind) with little to no room for scheduling flexibility. Workers seemed to tip-toe around management & it was not conducive to a positive work environment. You feel extremely disposable & there is little praise or appreciation for a job well done. Bonus was the animal experience & the small friendships that were formed between other workers in a similar boat. Overall, fine for a summer or two, but do not stick around for too long if you find the environment to be toxic for your mental and physical health. Use your discretion. 

So overall the job is super boring but pay is probably one of the best there at 18/hr but it also makes you hate the customers you serve because they are so gross and disgusting.  Customers always manage to make the biggest mess in the bathroom and if you are unlucky leave you special surprises you have to clean (which is fair to a degree because it is a bathroom). The job has made me question peoples hygiene  and absolutely despise kids so much. your coworkers are good and the supervisors are nice but its just the job it's self is gross, boring, and frustrating. I would recommend if you need easy cash for a summer and you're willing to put up with it but if you get grossed out easy stay away. 

With no previous knowledge of how to run a water park, I was trained to understand how everything works - from controlling the chemical levels to the workings of the pumps and valves to the regular maintenance of all the structures involved. My coworkers were very compatible, making it very easy to complete many tasks effectively through teamwork. Management was strict, but were very knowledgeable and provided great learning opportunities for myself as well as others. The hardest part, but also the most rewarding part, were the long hours; at least 10 hours a day. Each day was tiring, but the potential for overtime hours was worth it.
