I worked as an FA for another airline before switching over to Rouge and let me tell you -- I wouldn't recommend this company to my worst enemy. 

Starting salary is much, much lower than almost every other airline (I did the math and you'd actually make more money working a full-time minimum wage job) and you're not paid for each hour that you're at work. ALSO you're only guaranteed a paycheque once a month, however if you work the Minimum Monthly Guarantee (75+ hrs), you have the opportunity to receive an advance a few weeks early that comes out of your guaranteed paycheque. So, to put it into terms, if you're ill and miss some hours, guess what?! No paycheque for you. Flight gets cancelled? those hours/per diem are then removed from your schedule, you're put on reserve/standby and you have to scramble to make up those lost hours just to make sure you get a paycheque. 

And that's just the beginning. 

Management treats their employees like the dirt under their shoes. They'll pull you from duty (suspension) without giving you ANY details, bring you into the office where they'll hold a meeting that makes you feel like you've committed a murder. Management works off of intimidation strategies and power trips rather than understanding and empathy toward their employees. It doesn't matter what you say to defend yourself in these meetings or how well-composed you are, management reserves the right to dismiss you regardless of what happened (especially if you're still on probation). They'll find silly reasons to extend your probation, then they'll look for ANY and EVERY negative detail about you they can find just to terminate your employment. You're just a number to them. It's revolting.

Yes, the company is Unionized, but there's only so much a Union can do to defend you or keep your job (again, especially on probation). You could be the best FA there ever was. You could be knowledgeable, friendly and efficient and you could cross every T and dot every I. They'll still find ways to tear you down and make you feel like a terrible employee when the reality is the opposite. 

All in all, what I'm trying to say is, no amount of hard work, energy or training could protect you in this company. Don't think "it'll be different for me" because I promise, it will not. You are nothing but a number to these people. I'm ashamed of this company and disappointed  that Air Canada continues to allow them to keep their contract and function under their name/brand. I'll forever be traumatized by what this company did to not just myself but a number of my friends/colleagues who never deserved it.

You come into this job knowing that in general, a flight attendant needs to prepare for changing working hours, working late nights/early mornings, low pay, and extra unpaid work hours.
Rouge is no different, you’re going to be on reserve for a few months which means you will be called 2:30 hours before a flight to pick up and as long as you’re on reserve you will be working even if you fly back to base and you check out, you might be called for another flight and suddenly your one day work day is now four.
Expect very low pay, the lowest pay scale in the industry for low cost airlines. On average you are making minimum wage.  The job post will say “starting salary ~$25” but thats assuming you’re working 75 hours minimum A MONTH. You get per diems for working on layovers but even then expect a monthly pay of ~$2200 after tax. Management is not concerned with raising the hourly pay especially when cost of living has went up. Simply, a lot of the FAs cannot sustain themselves when they start for the first few years.
The destinations post-covid are not that exciting at all and you dont get to do any nice layovers. The expectation is you get your minimum crew rest and leave and that’s barely enough to get to the hotel, shower, and sleep to wake up and get ready for a long day. 
Safety Training was great and I had amazing instructors but don’t expect a good service training. You’re on your own, most likely a more senior FA will “teach you the ways” on board.
The culture is amazing, everyone is friendly and there is a sense of camaraderie but be careful expect a lot of gossip and a lot of he-said she-said. You might be caught in a rumour or two just keep your head high and let your actions speak for you. 

Don’t expect management to support you whatsoever. The union is there to help but there is only so much they can do with the collective agreement we have. Its better than it used to be but also with the new way pairings have been constructed, new protections need to be added. Expect to do back to back red eyes and multiple leg days (3-4/day). 
Amazing protection for mothers, you can go on maternity leave and come back with your years of service and pay protected. 
However, if you already have kids, prepare for last minute changes or drafts that will ruin your daily plans and force you to find someone to babysit last minute.

If you’re young and free and dont care about pay, apply somewhere with better destinations. Good destinations go to mainline to accommodate bigger passenger loads. If you expect going to cancun every other day, you’re not. You will be operating the outbound and inbound flight back the same day. 


During the short amount of time I was employed as a flight attendant for Air Canada Rouge, all I can say is, that I am really glad I got out early and was never in the air with them. The company is not good to work with and from my first day of training, I sensed that. They wrote me up for any and every little thing - one annoying write-up was that I had a scrunchie in my hair to tie up my hair back - mind you, there was nowhere in their lookbook policy that said you could not wear scrunchies. The training was long hours and they were cutthroat about every little thing they could write you up as another example, I was 2 minutes late and got written up for it. The benefits are not worth the amount of work they expect you to do and are trained to do. The training hours were extremely long and rigorous. Not a lot of support from trainers and management. Payroll accepted my direct deposit way too late and I finally received my payment 3 WEEKS from when I was supposed to be paid - very unprofessional. To add, the pay is really REALLY BAD! Among the worst across all airlines. There are a lot of better airlines to start your aviation career and Air Canada Rouge is not one of them. Read and take into consideration all the negative reviews and AVOID AIR CANADA ROUGE!

The training was intense but at the end all worth going to Disney Land! The job overall is fun and my co-workers are amazing, you meet new people every time you fly! Great flying out 𝖔𝖋  Toronto . The uniform is fire proof, sometimes not breathable but still cute. If you love meeting people, 𝖒𝖆𝖐𝖎𝖓𝖌  friends, travelling the world, love turbulence, sunsets and sunrises, you will love this job. Oh and make sure you don’t like to have a fixed schedule or sleep schedule because it can be very intense some times. You’re sleeping and they would call you at 6 am or, you have to wake up at 3 am for 5 days in a row and come back at 7 pm. (But for that I chose to do so in order to have about 12 days off in a row!) usually it’s a bit less intense. You still will, once have to wake up super ealry. Oh and the first two months are very rough, i once had to sleep 1h on the plane because we didn’t have enough time in between 2 flight to go to a hotel, but at least it was a 1h30 flight. The best that i had was a vancouver layover for over 32 hours, it was so relaxing and a beautiful place! 

The job itself is fun but can be very demanding. The best part is definitely the cabin crew because everyone is just so nice and it really feels like a family. However, the management is very unsupportive. You will be blame for things that you can't do anything about and they'll always be on the passenger side, not yours. You'll get in trouble for being sick and booking off and can even get fired for that. Be prepared to not be paid for half the time you're working (can blame the hire ups for that). Your schedule can also be changed at any second so be open minded because your 30hr layover in cancun with 200$ perdiem can be switch to a 10hr layover in Halifax, with 0$ perdiem. You also do not have any pay protection for those perdiem or hours so they can just take money from you and there's nothing you can do. But again everyone is just so nice that it makes it fun and worth it. They also offer great benefits when it comes to flying, you can get stand by passes for really cheap (USE THEM). PROBABLE ONE OF THE LEAST WELL PAID AIRLINE COMPANY but new contract is coming in 2025 and hopefully it will get better. 

I had a very negative experience working at Air Canada Rouge. First and foremost, the pay was incredibly low for the amount of work expected. I often felt undervalued and overworked without any financial recognition.

The working conditions were far from acceptable. The environment was not only uncomfortable but also seemed poorly managed. There were constant issues that went unaddressed, making it difficult to perform my duties effectively.

Moreover, the treatment from management was disappointing. Instead of support, I encountered a lack of communication and understanding. It often felt like the crew was left to fend for themselves without proper guidance.

Lastly, the crew scheduling was a nightmare. Shifts were often changed at the last minute, which made it hard to balance my personal life. Overall, I cannot recommend Air Canada Rouge as a good place to work.

As an employee from Air Transat i can assure you that Air transat employees are treated way better than Air Canada!

It was maybe one of the intense job  I ever had when it comes to physical work. Some days are not bad but a lot of days are very long and a lot of unpaid hours. I loved being a flight attendant but the company makes it really hard for you to keep wanting to fly. Pay is really really low a lot of us had  2 jobs to survive. It is flexible but the constant stress of being on call and not really knowing when you'll be working a 17hr day because of delays or just enduring passengers' frustration because you are the only person they can vent to because you represent the company,  takes a toll on your mental health. Your coworkers are either good or bad. Everyone is tired but the flight benefits are what keep a chain on everyone's neck and ankle. The hourly looks like it is great but the way it is set up, it is for you to never actually make a comfortable living until you are 10+ years in.  Make sure you have no crazy important bills to pay because the yearly salary will do you more harm than help. 

This company is very disorganized and inconsistent seemingly right from the highest to the lowest level positions and no one does anything about it. The training is not adequate and supervisors don't have the answers and don't support the flight attendants or instructors. The managers have no leadership abilities or training and I question whether they even know or understand their roles. People who "don't fit the culture" are fired without reason and yet the managers don't even uphold the standards that they preach about, basically if they don't like you they will find a way to fire you. They have 4 quality standards that the managers don't even uphold, all they care about is saving money and cutting costs, even at the cost of safety. To advance at this company you need to know someone, and that's exactly how everyone in a supervisory or managerial role has gotten to where they are. Doesn't pay as well as other airlines either.

Working for air canada rogue has many cons that outweigh the pros. You are treated like a number and the company does not care about you what's so ever. They lie to you when they hire you about the routes youre going to be flying and fail to mention the pay is very low. You are paid less than minimum wage, this is due to only getting paid for flight hours (whcih they disclosed to me 3 weeks into training) you'll need another job and it has to be extremely flexible, it's very hard to keep a second job when you are constantly getting changed extended and your schedule is all over the place. Great flight benefits but it's hard to even utilize them when you're making pennies. They expect the world from you but they dont value you at all. I would not recommend working here, trust me. 

Interview takes quote awhile, they tend to get thousands of resumes for this role. Interview isn't bad at all it's a few hours long. Very friendly recruiters. This is not a glamorous job and the pay is very low for the first 3 years. Seniority is everything and for me went up really fast! I was never on reserve. 
The culture has gone down here a lot since the pandemic. A lot of immaturity and people being spiteful against senior crew. It can be childish, unprofessional and toxic at times. Layovers are few and far between now as they no longer service Europe or Hawaii. With that I will say that can change at any moment. The industry is very volatile and moves quickly. It will always remain my dream job.
