CONS:

The security Dept. has a very high turnover of guards.  

Guards often work alone as positions are not filled in a timely manner.   

PPE is not kept up to date.

Uniforms and coats are provided but do not fit properly.

Mine schedules are often not followed and the actual schedule is not posted, so guards have to call in to find what they are working.

Cheque stubs are often late.  

15 guards left in a 3 year period (the guard compliment is 8).   

If you are fortunate enough to get another position in the mine, the sup. of security will not release you for months.

Training is not consistent and in some cases non existent.
 If you are looking to get into other positions at the mine through security, good luck.

Booking time off is a nightmare.

The highways into the mine are not well maintained.

PROS:   The pay is not bad and the benefits are good.   The staff at the mine in general are good people.   Social activities are interesting.

A typical day at work is face paced and well planned. I have learned to become a leader of a crew. Management there is very secluded from the workers. My co-workers are very good to work with and work well as a team. the hardest part of the job is that most of the employees are new to mining therefore they require constant attention and help to complete their work. The most enjoyable part is that there is always something to be done and therefore making the day very challenging and rewarding.

at Aurico, wearing many hats is a must.  Hard work is required to stay on top of day to day responsibilities.  A mine still in infancy, although the big picture is coming together nicely.  My co workers although overwhelmed much, were very professional people. The hardest part of the job for me was travel.  Going to work and return were at least 1.5hrs each way and more in the winter as the road conditions to Matachewan are better suited for a 4X4 in the winter months.

Paid well for waiting on mechanics, mechanic gear or water

Management, poor planning and poor infustructure

Dusty, nobody cares anymore about the company as they don't care for the workers

Breath in alot of dust and diesel while you wait for water

One of the slowest hiring processes I've ever had because of forgetfullness. Very frustrating, communication is next to none unless you consistently contact them for updates on being hired. Waited over a month, making me consider taking a different job elsewhere. Lots of jobs being posted but not being filled for months so there is a lack of staff in many departments. Once you finish getting hired on, the company is really good to work for and the people there are great.

What is the best part of working at the company?
2 weeks on 2 weeks off and good place to work 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The drive in to camp . In winter very bad

Team work and Alamos very good to work for

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
12 hr day 0500 to 6pm long days but money good day goes by fast

did monthly safety meeting with all mine personnel

train men on machinery for underground

I did the new hire's orientation and made sure had all common core for underground mining.

trained new employees underground common core.

if your friend with the boss you will get ahead lots of favoritism.  not much chance to advance other wise.   lots of equipment,  mechanic are overwhelmed not enough of them . management some  are really good others are not,  some go their promotion by sucking up  some of them no one has any idea what their job is and I'm sure they don't either

    Are always pushed bye company to get it done safety is a after the fact matter just get it done. For the most part all the people their are not happy with the company and the way they run their mine but is a paycheque and everyone keeps shut about things. Are very quick to write you up for disciplinary actions without really doing any investigations think hard about coming to work here 

They have the worst turnover I've ever seen in a workplace at this mine. 3/4 of the HR dept left when I was there. Same happens in many other dept. It all come from the top. My coworkers were decent, but the MGM treats everyone like peasants so everyone leaves. Find another place to work if you have any skills. They will be wasted working at this mine.
