There was no real typical day at work. All my day's were slightly different in what was done and when it was done. I always took any opportunity to learn as much as I could and always strived to be better and when I was not learning I was passing on my skills to others. Management was above average for most company's I have worked with. It was one of the larger company's I have worked for. The work place was great from the offices to the people I worked with. I liked the fact the my work was close to where I live which made for a short commute to work. The hardest part of the job was keeping up with the ongoing and constant changes within the organization. Most enjoyable part of the job was that I liked what I did and got to work with some great people.

I learned a great deal about the Electric Industry while at this company and every employee was more than willing to share their experience and knowledge.

They also paid for extra night classes as well as hosting many in-house classes.

Management treated everyone like they were equals and appreciation for hard work was always expressed.

What I enjoyed the most, as a Software Developer, was making the working day of other employees easier.   My work allowed them to solve problems quicker and with better accuracy.

*Creating Functional Specifications for System and Connection Projects requested from Transmission Facility Owners (TFO) or Industry Customers.
* Reviewing Facility Design submitted from TFOs or consultants hired by industry cumtomers

Every work day can get a little repetitive, especially for young engineers. Many people within the company has at least a masters degree, so there are a lot of knowledge being passed around. Since the pay is not extremely high, one can tell the people there really love what they do.

Great place for engineers, IT pros and economists, horrible for creatives and communications professionals that want to turn out good work. Arrogant mgmt. culture that would lose their jobs in one year of this one-of-a-kind place had to compete for market share.

Work culture is definitely important and it shows how much AESO invests to ensure a safe, open environment for all. Most of the people who work here are open to collaboration, working together and treated as equals.

Poor accountability.  Highly political.   The matrix management is a hindrance in achieving anything.  This led to a highly bureaucratic system where it became very difficult to deliver. The culture is very reactive and wasteful.  To achieve anything it ends up costing too much.

A very interesting place to work.  Security is very important.  Projects like dispatch software were sometimes consuming more than their share of the budget leaving few resources for the day to day ops.  No matter what shenanigans are going on,  you'll learn a lot every day.

Learning department management is lost. Learning Management System training non-existent. The number of projects to be developed is massive and the management does little about solving this back log of projects. Weak HR leadership is prevalent in this organization.
