If I were to give any advice to a potential applicant I would ask them this; do you like being worked to the bone to the point where you can hardly get out of bed in the morning to make your shift? If you do like this then I would definitely apply! Do you like having zero social life and enjoy watching your life crumble around you because management over schedules you without notice or permission? If so Allandale is the perfect fit for you! Management doesn't listen to you, nor do they take what you have to say seriously especially if it's something that makes scheduling harder for them. But will they hire enough people to fill out the schedule properly? Nope! They will leave the establishment understaffed and employees so exhausted that some even had to go on stress leave. I have never worked in a more toxic, physically/mentally draining, understaffed place, and even the coworkers that you do work with are either amazing or they will talk s*** about you to management or other staff. Cute kittens and puppies and the occasional pizza day are great, but you will be too tired to even care about the occasional good. So my advice to you, don't do it. The only reason I gave any stars at all is because of the good friends I was able to make, but the rest is a no go. 

While the position provided valuable experience, my overall experience was challenging. Training was limited, which made it difficult to feel fully prepared for the role. Management often appeared disorganized, and communication regarding expectations and procedures could have been improved.

The work environment was stressful at times, and many employees seemed overworked due to workload demands. Team support was also lacking, which made it difficult to collaborate effectively and succeed in the role.

Compensation was lower than I would expect for the responsibilities required, particularly considering the high cost of living in Barrie. There are opportunities for improvement in employee training, management organization, workplace support, and compensation.


I worked at Allandale for only a few months but it certainly left the impression of being a toxic work environment. In the interest of fairness I will say the doctors are very knowledgeable and practice good medicine, they are also kind to the staff. The problem was in the back otherwise known as treatment. One of the senior techs was an absolute nightmare to work with. Condescending talk usually in front of staff, showed blatant favoritism and if you weren't part of her cool kids club she'd make your shift miserable and just an overall bully. You will learn a lot here and will certainly improve on your skills but just a warning, the back room is not a united team, very divided.

Working in a fast paced environment has allowed me to master a variety of different skills that other clinics would not have the opportunity of teaching me. The veterinarians are VERY knowledgeable and take on many different cases that a smaller clinic may not. I have had the privilege of working with managers/mentors who make it possible for me to get a lot of hands on experience, more than I would just going to school. 

I am very grateful for all the learning experiences Allandale has given me and I can not wait to see where my skill set is five years from now! 

I worked at Allandale for almost a year and it was certainly and interesting experience. They practice good medicine but awful patient care, the clinic is so over booked that patients do not get the care they need and deserve. I LOVED my coworkers, but one by one they were bullied and belittled by management & the owner until they all quit. The owner of the clinic is a condescending and egotistical. She thinks she can say anything to the employes because “[she] pays you”. You will not be treated fairly, or even like a person. And you will not be paid fairly, nor will it matter if you stay until 11pm because there is always more work to be done.

Working with the animals and building relationships with clients were the best parts of the job, and many coworkers were supportive and hardworking. Unfortunately, management and communication were often inconsistent, and policies and expectations did not always seem to be applied fairly. The workplace could be stressful, and employee concerns did not always feel acknowledged or addressed. While the experience provided valuable skills, improvements in leadership, communication, and staff support would make this a much healthier work environment and help improve morale.

The Allandale Veterinary Hospital is a fantastic place to work. Who wouldn't want to care for animals as a job? Coworkers are nice- i've never had an issue with anyone from any department. Everyone is kind and respectful to towards eachother, and we all treat our guests like they are our own. Management and supervisors are professional, friendly, and very understanding. Ive had nothing short of positive experiences since my first day. I love it here, and will be here for a very long time. You will love it too. Trust me! 


Working here was nothing but a crazy toxic experience and it took me leaving to realize it.  There environment in there is exactly like a dramatic high school scene.  Everyone has a clique and if you’re not in, they will make your life difficult.  Co-workers hit on each other regardless of relationship status, management treats you amazing one day and turns around to stab you in the back the next.  Co- workers throw your name under the bus even if you had nothing to do with the situation.

Sad to say outside appearances can be misleading. Vets there are good at their jobs and staff works hard but management packs the schedule full but demanding perfection. Not enough time for the clients or animals. Boarding department looks nice but staff is bottom of the pyramid and management are hard on them. Hope they change in the future because employees get worn out and leave or fired for one mistake

I did a co-op at a veterinarian hospital where I was fortunate enough to learn things I would never have been able to from a textbook. I helped veterinary technicians with their day to day nail clippings, cleaning, etc. I also was lucky enough to help in a few surgeries with the veterinarians. Overall it was a great experience, helping me be confident in my future aspiration of a job in animal care.
