I acknowledge my experience at Allnorth may be different than most. I worked for a small company that was purchased by Allnorth shortly after I joined so I did not experience a formal job interview process and the division is essentially the small company still with the Allnorth branding. It helps the division specializes in environmental services vs engineering, which Allnorth is known for, which maintains that level of individualism from the other Allnorth divisions.

Having said that, I really enjoy my job here. The job varies depending on the time of year and the nature of sub-contracting out to other contractors means you can work on different projects throughout the year which prevents things from getting monotonous. The project managers take into account your interests and skills to place you on projects. If there is an area you wish to gain more knowledge or improve you skills in, there is opportunity to be placed on projects that help build your skillset as well.

Transportation is provided, whether it be a company vehicle or flights and hotels paid for. You are given an LOA for when you aren't working from town or a camp. Travel time is paid for whether it's from leaving town to head to a work site or flying/driving to a work site for a shift. The wage is fair and there is opportunity for overtime, although 10 hours is a standard work day length when in the field. Standard work day length in an office setting is 8 hours. The work shifts I've experienced have been fair. 5x2, 10x4, 7x7, 15x13, and I usually have some agency on which shift length I can choose (camp shifts may be predetermined).

I personally don't interact a lot with other Allnorth employees in the field, as I am usually the only one out there for environmental. But for larger projects I have met and worked with Allnorth surveyors and engineers. I have good communication with my project managers and the environmental manager and division manager are very approachable and accommodating. 

The job is a consulting job which comes with "unpredictability" in the work schedule, as any consulting job does. Sometimes last minute is given for when a new project starts up, though my managers typically communicate they know a new project may be starting up in a rough timeline but the departure date may be last minute and to be prepared. Once a project has started there's some regularity to your schedule and between projects may be sporadic in days on/off until you are assigned a new project. There is opportunity to work in these down times or take the time off, since some projects may be time intensive working long days and longer shifts (I have not worked longer than 15 days in a row). Overall the work-life balance over the span of a year is good, with busy periods for work, and chill periods for life (unless you want to work those periods too). Summer is quite busy with wildlife sweeps and summer and winter are good working seasons, depending on the project. Spring can be a little slow due to break-up or rainy weather which may prevent work from occurring on projects.

Overall I am very happy working at Allnorth. It has been a great opportunity to build new skills and it's the second time I've actually enjoyed my job.

A typical day at work began around 7AM and lasted about 8 hours depending on workload and urgency of tasks.  I learned a lot about various construction materials and the uses thereof.  A days work usually consisted of going out to local gravel pits in the morning to retrieve samples of their respective product and running laboratory tests on the samples to determine composition. Other work that varied daily included testing imported concrete samples from various local building projects and logging and storing any new samples that arrived that day.  After testing, all results needed to be logged in their appropriate data/graph sheets using Microsoft Excel.  Occasionally, new sheets needed to be made.  The work atmosphere is excellent, with friendly co-workers and excellent management.

Worked at Allnorth as a professional for over 3 years. Left amicably for better work. The corporate leadership team is an insular group of white men. CEO and COO are full of themselves and the COO doesn't understand engineering projects but rather focuses on sales to the extreme, to the point of distraction from technical and professional responsibilities.This sales culture is upheld by division managers pressured to prioritize sales over managing or fostering resources required to execute project work.

My typical day at the Allnorth was composed of performing geotechnical quality control for a potash mine construction project as well as reports writing and dealing with clients and other representatives. I have learned how to effectively negotiate with various players of the project. The company/s management style is to provide an employee such myself with support and backing up and expect outstanding results. Allnorth culture is a way more advanced than typical corporate one. The hardest part of the job is to deal with some difficult clients, the technical aspect is easy. The most enjoyable part of the jab was participation in a great big project and sence of pride associated with it.

Echo some of the previous comments; Was not doing what was necessarily told will be doing. Day to Day work extremely various. You are expected to do anything and know everything. Expected to work as much as company needs and if it requires 21 consecutive 13 hours days in remote locations then so be it. Everyone within the company is good people the problem is the general fit that is seen in regards to an engineering technologist I would not say is favorable for that Technologist. Scope of of work only available within Construction Season where extreme hours are necessary, after that you find yourself surveying all winter long everywhere but Grande Prairie for a good 6 months.

A very disorganized company, very little job training for work that is outside one's specialty. Because employee is an expert with one manufacturers equipment, upper management thinks you can run any kind of equipment with no additional training. Their equipment is always breaking down. Employee needs to take two or three sets of equipment to the field to complete a simple task. Equipment manager was friend of owner but had no clue what he was managing.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
N/A. 
 Was not a stressful place to work, but for me. Mostly in the field and busy, so never had alot of interaction unless equipment was needed. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Most offices that I had interacted with felt like a mom and pop company in a good sense. Easy to work with, safety and professional procedures were high in standards 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Normal construction field work with reporting at the days end

Minimal support or communication from Management, lower than average to poor benefits, wage freeze, elimination of RSP contributions, poor hiring, and direction from upper management. Regular mixed messaging and lack of information from management communications.

I surveyed for them for 3 years until I got tired of little or no field support from those that absolutely should provide it. Clicky tribe in Saskatoon and managed by someone with no field experience and awful insight who bullied excellent established employees into quitting. Allnorth is top heavy in management and they spout corporate wonderfulness blah blah but actually have no adherence to decency toward employees. Suggest one move on from them and choose a smaller outfit.

I’ve been in the trade for over 20 years, and during my time at this company I experienced management challenges that affected morale. Some managers did not have field experience, which at times made communication and job planning difficult.

I also experienced payroll delays on multiple occasions. Over a past year, my pay was deposited late six times, which created stress and uncertainty.

In my experience, the company could benefit from stronger leadership development and more consistent payroll processes.
