Alpine-Building-Maintenance

The two star rating is basically a shoutout to some of the good people still working there.

One of the potential disadvantages of working for a family business is that you might have an unqualified family member in management position(s). With any luck, they are self aware of their lack of knowledge in certain areas and trust their employees enough to make the right decisions.  Unfortunately, my experience at Alpine was not positive.  Working under a self proclaimed “micromanager”, my time was often spent doing time-wasting activities that continually needed to be repeated because of lack of retention on their part. Despite many queries to HR about being put under a different manager, nothing ever materialized.

Employee turnover rate was high at HO, and with many talented people exiting (and in many cases not replaced), the workplace atmosphere became more stressful due to increased workloads.

I accepted a lower starting salary than I was used to, with the hope that the company would look at my body of work and eventually pay comparable rates to jobs being offered in the area.  Regrettably, it turned into a bartering session with my manager.  Their stance was to try and rationalize the reasons why you are worth considerably less than the comps, while still not comprehending my scope of work. 

Positives? There were definitely things that you’d never see in any other work environment, which made it kind of interesting.

you know i enjoyed the job for the first few months, but as they went along i was given less and less hours until it was at a point where i was unable to live off of the wage they where trying to subject me too, they had spent months clearing me to work within a Goverment of Canada building, only to have it held up because they didn't give me a phone number to call and sort out, once this was done i was approved within the day.

working for Alpine i learned that my employer believes that janitorial is not "a white man's job" (This is verbatim, he said this to me in a meeting without a hint of irony.) the majority of the staff on hand have little to no cleaning knowledge and yet are put on tasks such as stripping and waxing floors, deep cleaning washrooms, and working in large buildings without supervision. Even most managers of these workers don't fully grasp janitorial, and will point out 'mistakes' that are physically unfix-able due to poor maintenance from prior cleaners

if i could give you a word of advice, i'd say never work for or with Alpine building maintenance, as they also contract work out to smaller businesses who may be even less experienced with cleaning or the business world. You'd be better off starting your own company or working with one of Kelowna's more professional building maintenance companies.

A typical day at work involves starting with reviewing tasks and priorities, followed by engaging in team meetings and collaborating with colleagues to accomplish goals. Throughout the day, there's a balance of individual tasks, meetings, and interactions with clients or stakeholders.

During my time here, I've learned the importance of time management, effective communication, and adaptability. I've also enhanced my skills in HR.

Management at our company is  not supportive. They never  prioritize employee development or strive to create a positive work environment.

 The hardest part of the job can be managing tight deadlines and juggling multiple projects simultaneously. It requires careful prioritization, strong organizational skills, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.

The most enjoyable part of the job is seeing the impact of our work and collaborating with colleagues who share a passion for what we do. Celebrating successes, overcoming challenges together, and fostering a sense of camaraderie make each day fulfilling.

Overall,  Alpine is neither amazing nor terrible. They are rapidly purchasing other companies to dominate the market, BUT the admin staff cannot keep up; there is way too much work for too few people. Because of this, there are many opportunities to take on projects independently and learn, but with little support and few resources. To boot, operations are terribly disorganized and uninterested in cooperating with others. This seems to be a part of the industry culture, not just Alpine, where those outside the 'head office' have a much rougher way of doing things that often creates more work. Don't come to Alpine if you are looking for exemplary professionalism, but come for the learning experiences and the challenges that come with a growing company. 

a typical day at work when is when you see people are happy to the job well done. I learned  to operate about different Cleaning Machine like "Buffing, Walk behind, Bag pack Vacuum, Upright Vacuum, Wet Vacuum, Ride on, Auto Scrubber, Carpet Shampoo and bonnet Cleaning. know about wet mopping, dusting, wiping different motion("side by side, Up and Down, and Circular). alpine is one of the leading company in cleaning where they give value for every employee and worker by giving a good benefits, good salary and a good training. The workplace culture most of the worker are Filipino, a busy working environment and prone for sick is what the alpine securing everybody safety by knowing worker and employee responsibility. hardest part of the job when coming busy its hard to maintain the cleanliness so some are complaining although we keep doing our job well done. after all the effort and hardship every day still always have more people showing their smile and thank you for the job well done.

Extremely High staff turnover.
Work culture that is not respectful, supportive nor collaborative. 
Zero respect for private time after working hours came to a close. 
Professionalism is a word often used, sadly not understood by most. Emotional intelligence is not present in majority of “senior” leadership. 
Being untruthful is highly acceptable in this company. 
Very few staff within the Alpine HQ are dedicated, honest and helpful. 
 Director/Portfolio “Manager” leaves much to be desired. Old boys club, thinking it’s the 70’s. Very poor managerial/leadership skills. 
Onboarding a total disaster that sets newcomers up for failure. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
Was told there was training , when I arrived on my first day.
1) No training was given, I didn’t get a trainer , I was told what to clean and not how not even shown what all the solutions I had to use.

2) The upper management / coordinator gave me a run through of the job and told me along the lines of there can’t be any mistakes it has to be prefect , he was very keen on that. 

I returned everything and left on my first day. 


What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
No training , was given problems and no solutions

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The cleaners seemed kind , very quiet work environment.

I liked it. Just wish they paid more for the amount of work you do and gave more oppurtunities of moving up in the company.
Also, doesn't matter if your a good worker or not.
You might be breaking your back and coming in everyday and always doing a good job, mean while someone else will be calling in sick all the time and have tons of complaints at the end of the day. You all get paid the same.
I've also seen some people not getting they're job done and they don't even get fired but then you have to help them because they say it's to much work. When it's not!. They're just being lazy. 



The days can be extremely stressful with multiple issues that you can’t control ,  communication with workers are almost impossible due to language barriers. They are lacking  professionalism especially management . Expect to receive emails that give you so much of  stress and worry 24 hours a day .  The hardest part was lack of work life balance and lack of understanding.  There is really nothing to mention on the enjoyable part as the job demands so much of your time and attention through out the day . You probably can’t take your mind off from the work after starting the work.

working here was okay, it payed the bills, but it is not for someone looking for a job they enjoy. I know every work place has its problems but my supervisor was a complete push over and would talk about problems he had with someone with everyone else and not with the person he had issue with. my co workers would all talk about other coworkers behind their back because my supervisor would let some people get away with some things like being late or leaving early, or taking extended breaks but then wouldn't allow other people to. Its an okay job if u dont mind doing that kind of thing but hopefully the work environment isnt as hostile
