I was hired as a manager, and spent 5 months working as a courier.

They were always short staffed so I had to be on the road all the time.  They were so desperate that they hired a guy back after firing him 3 times for stealing and not showing up.  

The managers will basically do anything to avoid doing any work themselves, and put all of the pressure on their route drivers to take care of everything for them.

Work/Life balance is non-existent at Calgary Alsco.  I worked 12 hour days on average.

The hardest part of the job is that it is physically very hard work.  Be prepared to sweat.  Time management is the second hardest part of the job.  You have to be fast.  Every second counts.

The best part of the job is the freedom of having the truck as a mobile office.  You can operate pretty independently and take breaks whenever it works best for your route.

Several vehicles in the fleet are in poor repair, and should not be on the road.  The vehicle I drove had a signal light hanging from the rear bumper for 3 months that never got repaired.  It also had a broken side view mirror for about a month.  Then the brakes went out and I nearly had an accident.  I quit the next day.

This branch is a very unsafe place to work in my opinion.  If you choose to work here you will be well paid for what you do, but just be ready to work hard for that money.  It's a tough job.

As a person that wears many hats my day usually flies by. Since I am the receptionist, payroll coordinator, accounts payable clerk, and back up for customer service I need to be able to be very organized and prioritize my tasks each day. Some times it is difficult to stay on task with the distraction of the telephones, but I am someone that can refocus to the task on hand with ease. Each day comes with its own challenges and hurdles to get over.

In an office environment there is always some degree of office politics, but the team I work with work well with each other. Great sense of humour within our office and makes it easy to get along.

Since I work for an international company we have service operating policies that includes segregation of duties and we are not able to really fill in for someone when they are off. The office manager is the only one that can do this, and my job is difficult when I return from vacation as I usually have things to clean up due to the fact she does not pay attention to detail the same way I do.

I enjoy the majority of my tasks, except that when I was asked to take on the responsibilities of reception duties with no increase in pay. There were cut backs in the office with eliminating the receptionist the duties were not divided equally with in the office.

Unfortunately all these negative reviews are true. The culture is the worst part as they drain you to the level where you get sick. You are asked to work 12, 14 hours a day, to come on Saturdays, Sundays and there is no overtime payment. Higher management is always demanding you do more, to stay longer, and they rub on your face how much you get paid to remind you to do that much more. All you hear is negative feedback, always criticism. I think it alligns with the rest I just described as they want to make you feel bad about yourself and performance and make you to just be glad they keep you there under those conditions. This was a disappointing experience and if you have the possibility to go elsewhere, it is probably the best choice you´ll be making.

Unfortunately the work environment isn’t the greatest staff is over worked for little pay, High turnover in all departments. The facility isn’t air-conditioned you will over heat in the summer sadly the managers offices are air-conditioned. It’s literally a sweatshop you are extremely overworked for little pay in the warehouse and as a RSR driver. My experience when I got hired, I was told it was a good place to work. I wish I read all the reviews. Salt Lake City needs to do more in training the management staff. No one really knows what’s going on puts a lot of pressure on staff. They are always hiring for most positions. Don’t get discouraged I would recommend to keep looking else we’re save your work ethic for someone else. 

Management at the corporate level have lost touch with their senior managers. People generate these numbers they're chasing but the worker is still but a commodity. They handcuff senior managers in areas of budget forcing labour decisions to stay on track while short handed. GM's make the real money while golfing and senior managers get nothing. There is no incentive to move up within the company, no loyalty. If one could only make decisions upward and you had the  ability to also fire upward, you could change the culture within Canada. The Regional Mgr. needs work!

I would not work for this company & I'm thankful I got out when I still had a life.

I worked for Alsco when they were in Vancouver for 4.5 years. My position was non-union. The more work I took on, the more  they gave me until it felt like I did the work of 3 people. The wage was pitifully low and when I voiced out loud that I intended to leave when they didn't give out any raises one year, they called me I to the office to announce they were raising me up to $18/hr but not to tell anyone. Woo. Hoo. I still left and ended up making almost $25/hr. Weeks after I left and was trying to learn my new job the manager and the CEO kept calling and leaving me vm wanting me to bus it all the way out to Van from Surrey on a weekend to check that they were doing a certain complex billing correctly. Too late. You snooze you lose.

Worked as an power eng. aka maintenance. 
can get your 3rd class steam time there. Management is seriously lacking. Getting things ordered, tools, parts etc. is a major hassle. 
Equipment was old and out of date 15 years ago. often fix the same issues multiple times as the cheapest route is always taken.
Pay may be typical for a standard maintenance position but if your working as a power engineer you will be disappointed in the pay.
A large change could be made with upper management being refreshed. Someone who will provide maintenance with what they need could stop this place from being a perpetual revolving door of employees.

My experience with this company has been nothing short of a nightmare. From day one, it was clear that management lacked basic organization and professionalism. Expectations were never clearly communicated, and when issues arose — which was frequent — leadership either deflected responsibility or was completely unavailable.

The environment was chaotic, communication was inconsistent at best, and there was a glaring absence of accountability from those in charge. If you value your time, effort, and sanity, I highly recommend looking elsewhere.

This company needs a serious overhaul in leadership, structure, and integrity. Until then, it will remain an example of what not to be.

They have a good shift, parking free, some benefit, give you uniform and  are working at improve their work environment 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
You have to be able to achieve the production average.  Nonetheless they give you feed back and try to help you to achieve it.

Coworker are respectful and friendly, the manager of HR is reliable and  it is easy to talk with him about work situations. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Arrive early and finish my shift early too, I have to work in a routinary job.

The day was not that hard as long as you were a cool hang for the GM. If you can handle an egotist waffle on about his work history like its drag he can put on to manipulate your buy in… It’s super easy. If you can handle being a member of a pack of gormless groomed crony yes men that love talking nonesense about the people that make the money and an HR rep “that just follows orders”… Then this bucket of crabs placed in a viper nest is right for you. 

If you get in as a worker its not so bad for the area, and it is union. But be prepared for management that will have no problem excusing away their malice, incompetence, or negligence.
