What is the best part of working at the company?
I really enjoyed the variety of tasks, which were accompanied by interacting with he many different customers.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
There seemed to be an environment there where you were always concerned about your job security. It seems the entire company is walking on eggshells. It’s kind of like the insecurity one feels in the first three months, or even the first year of you working with a company, but that feeling never seems to go away. What I discovered is, I was not the only person who felt that way.  I’m working longer hours and making about $10 less an hour than they pay right now, and I’m happier now than I ever was in my tenure there.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
They really push culture there, but it seems inorganic. And people, of course participate, because they’re afraid to be on the outside. It does remind me of an unhealthy group, or a cultlike dynamic. So if you don’t participate in these culture developing events you’re not really part of the family than, are you?  There’s this unspoken, “you’re not really fitting in?”  Many companies do this. They fail to neglect that people like to set boundaries between their work life and their personal life, and some of these culture building events do seem to try to blur those lines. So if you’re a person with a healthy understanding of what your boundaries are, you don’t cave into the pressure, but you also know in the back of your mind where you stand.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Working independently was nice however some of the expectations are challenging, to say the least. The company does not want to pay people overtime for fear they would have to charge customers the extra cost. This place is a lot of pressure on you to squeeze whatever work orders you had into eight hours. So you either take a hit and and doctor your hours, or you don’t get your eight hours in a day. Those are your options.

Would not recommend working here. Was misled during interview process. Took the job being told I was on nights, but got assigned to a different site on days. Was forced to take pictures of all tools I owned, including having to buy some that were mandatory for my apprenticeship level. Upon being on site for my second month now, I have used collectively 3 tools since arriving. Was told to do FLHA’s on own time before work, and before arriving on site and seeing what hazards have changed. Since Covid started vaccine mandates have entered the schools. I tried to get a challenge letter written to keep my apprenticeship going but was refused because they don’t agree with that process and was more or less told good luck. Very false sense of integrity overall with hiring staff. 

I was surprised to realize that for such a large company that they don't pay overtime.
 Also, for one of the largest companies in Edmonton, they do a lot of hiring and firing, so if you're on a job site.  And everyone is 3 months or less. Chances are when that job is finished or in a couple months. You will all be played off together including 1st year and 2nd year apprentices. Which I always thought were always safe, but they aren't.
Alot smile infront your face and bad stuff when your back is turned.
They have out of town work where you get a pay bump. But these are always filled with friends first and then whoever after.


Was nice to get some good serious experience in commercial coming from a resi background. I feel I learned a lot in a year here which I will always be grateful for. Safety on some sites was actually even worse than resi which is 0. Almost got shocked by some big power a couple times because of poor organization, communication and procedures which I found surprising that the electrical safety was worse than resi other than having a LOTO. Hard to survive in todays day and age on a 2nd year salary here even getting 40 hours a week consistently. Work life balance was good but seemed to be carrot on a stick in terms of advancement past journeyman level. 

They act as if it's a big family there. In reality, you're just a number. It's fine if you want temp work, but they have turned into a company that employs a bunch of people for a certain job and lays them all off at the end of said job. Either you've been there for 5+ years, or you're expendable. Also, taking a picture of every single tool is just ridiculous and I've never been required to supply my own harness and lanyard before. They'll sell you one of their used ones though.  You have to take their approved MEWP and fall arrest course. They expect you to fill out FLHA before starting work. 

There is a strong company culture that your expected to adopt, otherwise you'll be out the door quickly. Many of the foreman at the company seem underqualified, and stressed which leads to poorly planned job sites, and blame shifting onto employees. They have strict safety rules, such as banning certain tools, and mandatory glove use, that are broken as soon as the safety officer leaves site, but in the case of foreman, are never followed to begin with. They wont pay overtime, but they will buy pizza, and occasionally reward the lucky few with gift cards.

DO NOT WORK HERE. They treat everyone on staff like trash. you know you are disposable. The Foremans ignore the company polices. They do their best to belittle, and are genuinely arrogant. They do not provide you any tools or materials. If you Don't suck up to the head office guys, they push you out, and you will be promptly fired. They scam all first years of the first 6 months of hours by putting you down as "unskilled labor". You cannot and will not be allowed to go to school when you want. If you book you will be forced to cancel or get fired.

The workers here for the most part are knowledgeable and willing to teach. The work environment for higher level apprentices and Journeyman is more fast paced and competitive than it is for lower level apprentices, which is good because it makes you a better electrician as you progress through your apprenticeship. I would more recommend this job for lower level apprentices and starters looking to gain valuable experience. The wage is good, and they create a safe workplace for their employees.

The foreman really inspire their workers to strive to be the best and make the most out of their apprenticeship. excellent tools for tracking labour and staying organized.  I really like the peer to peer recognition program which helps everyone doing well get recognized within the company even though it is a growing medium sized company.

A typical day as an apprentice is you are paired up with a journeyman and you learn as you do tasks. The journeymen take their time to teach. The work you are involved in are large commercial projects to service calls and solar where you learn something new. There are slow periods though where layoffs can happen.
