American Airlines

Very toxic, and  they over work the employees that work the gates. some agents work a flight once a month, and they don’t rotate agents, they keep placing the same agents and that’s why others don’t learn the procedure, and come and get the easy pay, but that’s on the team management and the supervisors that assign the flights. Just because they want and on time departure time…some agents asked to be removed from flights and supervisors just approve it.
some agents don’t even get sent to do hard flights because they aren’t capable of handling the flight, which should not be an excuse, as all agents should know the process unless restricted for medical reasons.
overall management is not consistent with everyone only certain individuals, which is sad.
One last and final statement.  They have no confidentiality and that’s horrible!  Customer service Agents must adhere to this policy for passengers protection, yet I can’t say this enough! Management does not keep discretion with the employees. Instead they have conversations in front of other employees regarding complaints, or maybe something that one may need to improve on, criticism should always be welcomed. If it is to improve the agents level
Of service.
Professionalism should apply when having conversations, based on all of these points.
 Should be always discreetly and confidential.
American Airlines in Yyz station needs to improve overall.

~ A typical day at American Airlines to check passengers in, assist any passenger with dissabilities (wheelchair), escort minors travelling alone, Board passengers in plane.

~ I learned how an Airline get run, how customer service is very important in an Airline and any other job. I gained the skill of working under pressure, solve problems that will benefit customer and company

~ I experience management situations when escorting a minor through airport security who was travelling alone. It was I reponsible for the minor until he was at the aircraft sited.

~ It is very important at times to work as a team, but also know when to work alone and overcome hard situations as everyone has they're own tasks.

~ Dealing with customers who do not want to back down when something goes wrong.

~ The most enjoyable part of the job is knowing you did your best to help everyone, and you gain everyday a new experience and learn from everything.

I worked for Envoy Air as a subsidy of American Airlines.  The Company is great and it gives good benefits to its employees.  It is one of the largest Airlines in the world.   However, Envoy Air Vancouver does not have a good enough management to keep up its brand of American Airline.  I do not say the Management is awful but it is the fairness that gives people a negative reputation.  The fairness of the schedule and the way how the management hires me as Lead and decided to withdrawn the decision due to the fact that they hired a more familiar friend from a different company was the biggest problem.  I would have to say that there are a lot of Favouritism going on with the company in Vancouver.  If every company would be fair enough to go by a merit system, every industry would be developing a lot of good employees to help their company succeed.

Management was on a high, about themselves! Seasonal, hardworking people were let go yet those with no training were kept. No sense in this as good, hard working people were let go, months of training down the drain. Seasonal told they could be brought back but this was said to pacify them and this was reflected in their subsequent actions.
Management was into favouritism and listened to those in other roles when they should of paid more attention to their employees. No coaching, reviews, follow ups to any issues which is  lax in my opinion. Encourage people, work with them and you will be rewarded with more productivity. 

American the Company is great! The benefits and what you can learn if you apply yourself is great. Each station is different depending on the management. At YYZ it is very toxic and stressful and mangement sees you as a number. They are disrespectful at times and stifling. Not a company to grow with because there is no where to go to. The wages in the beginning are barely enough to survive, so you would need another job.

Great flying benefits that will give access to see the world but you will be poor and stressed out.

I loved working at the airport. What a neat atmosphere and so addicting. It was neat chatting with people as to where they have been, or where they are headed too. Met some many unique individuals. I learned how to check people in, drive the sky bridge, how to do a final check and shut down of a plane overnight and how to do look for lost baggage. Truly interesting job. The management was great, the co-workers were great and the majority of the customers were great. It was sad that it was only a summer position and the wage was not the greatest. But I wouldn't trade the experience for anything.

Great company to work for and the benefits are great also. 
You can swap out days you do not wish to work with willing employees  (after probationary period) and also pick up additional hours. If you like to travel and you like to provide excellent customer service them American Airlines is right for you. 

There's a lot of room for growth. However like every other job it can be stressful at times. 

In my experience management is doing a great job at looking out for employees at the sametime as making sure the station is running smoothly.

Started working for AA in early of February 2020, a few short weeks before the Covid 19 Pandemic was declared. As I had not completed the probationary period I 
was terminated at the end of April 2020 because of the world wide lockdown. 
To my surprise, I was asked to return to work for AA in December 2021 and I, hesitantly, accepted.
The benefits package is available to staff after the first week of employment, however, it pays minimum wage to start.
The local manage team and staff-mates are all supportive, helpful, kind and knowledgeable.


The pay starts from low but it goes up quite fast. An excellent union !
People stay long time once u get in.
U can fly in business for free anytime.
The work is much more serious then AC U learn a lot and do everything where as AC new hires do only kiosk or wheel chairs. 
The best medical insurance too.
Other then the crazy schedule and small salary in the beginning,  it's very good work environment!

I love this Job. I've been working for this company for almost 22 years. I worked 11 years back home before my transfer to Toronto, and the environment is a little bit stressful, not for the company indeed. When you are supervisor , the expectations are higher than the other ones. You need to be a real leader to get over when things don't go as expected.
