worked at Kenny u pull for two years. Initially, I was excited about the role and the company's reputation in the industry. However, my experience quickly turned sour due to the toxic work environment prevalent throughout the organization.
Firstly, there was a pervasive culture of favoritism. Promotions and important projects were often allocated based on personal connections rather than merit, which created a sense of unfairness and demotivation among the team.
Secondly, communication within the company was extremely poor. Important decisions were made behind closed doors without transparency or input from relevant teams. This lack of communication led to frequent misunderstandings and delays in project execution.
Additionally, the management style at was overly authoritarian. Micromanagement was common, and employees were rarely trusted to make decisions independently. This stifled creativity and innovation, as employees felt hesitant to propose new ideas or challenge existing practices.
Moreover, the workload was consistently overwhelming. Unrealistic deadlines and a constant pressure to deliver results contributed to a high-stress environment. This led to burnout among several team members, myself included, and ultimately impacted our productivity and well-being.
In conclusion, my time was marred by a toxic work environment characterized by favoritism, poor communication, authoritarian management, and excessive workload. While the company may offer attractive perks on the surface, potential employees should be wary of these underlying issues that significantly detract from the overall employee experience.

The management team claims to have your back until something comes up that requires them to actually do something. I was there for 1 year and within that time, despite staying late almost everyday and coming in on weekends no one was willing to teach me anything past the basic points and even just learning them was hard with the lack of leadership. Brought this up to my supervisor who told me that hed get me trained on the forklift, 4 months later still not a single word of training. The employees who have been there for years basically refuse to teach you anything because they’d rather have you do the hard work while they sit in the machines and drive around. When I tried asking my coworker what I should be doing during a maintenance on the machine I was working on he told me to go hide somewhere or something. Completely unprofessional company. The lunch program was the only decent part but even that was pretty much always chicken and salad. Forget about having juice with your lunch though because your coworkers take them from the fridge and bring them home and out in the factory with them. Also don’t leave anything in the fridge or in the change room that isn’t locked up, it’ll be gone by time you go back for it.

Working here was a nightmare from day one. I wasn’t given proper training because everyone was always “too busy” with their own work, basically setting me up for failure from the beginning. The work load you are expected to do as one person is insane. Everything is extremely unorganized and documents go through too many people that things tend to get misplaced and lost. People are constantly getting fired in all departments with no real explanation. Many positions become abolished just as an excuse to terminate employees and then the jobs are filled in using a new title with the same tasks. Favoritism is a huge issue in this company. If there is an issue you will not be confronted by management but you will hear about it from other coworkers as management does not keep things private. From the start you will be promised things from HR (ex: 2 weeks off during winter holidays, yearly bonuses and raises) THIS IS A LIE. They close during the holidays depending how the days fall so this is not guaranteed 2 full weeks. This past year (in January before Covid) we were told our bonuses and raises would come in the spring, which followed with nothing. All in all this is a very toxic and childish environment to work in. I wouldn’t recommend working here to anyone. 

The work environment was great like I mentioned above , the employees got along well which led to production being high.
The only negative thing I can say about American Iron & Metal is that we worked with Lead the whole day and different types of fumes in the air made it hard to breathe sometimes also while wearing a mask. Where I worked daily was especially difficult because the room was closed it was not in the open like the rest of the factory and it was approximately 15 feet by 15 feet and the machine alone was about 12 feet by 12 feet. There was not much room to move and the door had to remain closed at all times because there could not be any dust entering the room as it would affect the Final Product. That is really the only thing I could say Negative about American Iron & Metal is the fact that we had to breathe in all of those fumes and be careful with the Lead.

Typical day for a crane operator is to load trucks and railcars and sort material. Expect to be called on the radio every 5 mins and be micro managed within an inch of your life by the many white hats that drive around in vehicles all day waiting for you to make a wrong move or to simply change the original instructions you were given by someone else. 

Traffic in the yard is absolutely nuts so expect to be stressed out moving your large crane through tight spaces while trying to drive around truck drivers that you can't communicate with who are trying to also navigate through the sea of obstacles. 

Turn over rate is astronomical so make sure you don't wreck anything or damage a truck. Not showing up to work or being late will also get you fired. 

Your coworkers don't care about you and will sell you out to save themselves whenever they can, nobody will own up to their own mistakes as its always someones else's fault. 

On the bright side you will have a chef making you lunch everyday for a very low price that is taken off your pay cheque and at christmas the owner has raffles for big prizes.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Comraderie between co-workers and even the ppl in the office,  who the yard staff didn't necessarily interact with on a daily basis, but everyone was treated like family as it very much was like being part of a big family. My favorite place to work in Saint John and really sucks that it was taken from myself and many of my co-workers.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Dealing with the onslaught of lies put out by the local media being fed by ppl with ulterior motives looking to line their pockets.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Like being part of a huge family where everyone was treated fairly and with respect

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Most days went by fairly quickly as the job description was always changing as AIM provided myself and any who was willing to learn different work skills such as torch cutting, forklift training, skidsteer training, loader etc. Another aspect of working there that I miss dearly.

I have been with AIM (headquarters) Montreal for more than 7 years, in Logistics Dept. I have to say this is the best metal recycling scrap company I have ever worked for. Office is superb considering we are in the metal industry. Great people to work with, Logistics Dept is a melting pot of races, it encompasses of more than 10 people from different countries under the wing of humorous, hard-working VP logistics. Such a great team. You will learn a lot and gain rich experience in terms of global/international trade and logistics (by truck, rail and sea/container). Decent salary, good seasonal bonuses and of course, fancy (restaurant-like) served lunches at the cafeteria subsidized by the company. People from different departments are also very helpful and cooperative.
