the culture was pretty chill, probably because I was a volunteer, but the people at the lunch room who were paid staff also claimed it was a relaxing place to work. the lunch room's window sill had a variety of plants that were basking in the sunlight when Raincouver decided to spare the rare smile upon us. the hardest part was getting to the location partly because of morning traffic that most people experience. However, maybe with the WFH trend going on, that will not be a problem. The most enjoyable part of the job was knowing that I was part of an organization which helped people in need. I have donated to numerous crisis reliefs globally, and Red Cross is close to my heart since my grandfather was received blood donation from the Chinese hospital. I feel his presence while I was working and it got me through the tedious tasks and the minor fatigues due the winter heaters. Luckily, I had an hour lunch and two 15 minutes breaks to get fresh air. Only thing is that you had to prepare your own lunch, but they had a microwave and fridge. Sometimes they put milk and creams in there. 

When natural disaster strikes it is very critical to be well prepared for the worst case scenario. The amount of foresight before disaster strikes is crucial and the American Red Cross is a wonderful organization that has a plan. When deployed on a hurricane, for example, it is necessary to work as a team and communicate clearly to be able to set up a shelter in a centralized location and alert the surrounding communities as to how to find us. We literally wade in the water and rest on cots next to those going through horrific times and we use our skill sets to keep them calm and positive while providing them with necessary information and keeping everyone safe. We provide food, clothing, toiletries, shelter, and transportation within our limits to the community until it is safe for them to go home. We also provide them with the means and numbers to prepare for whatever is next. You meet the most amazingly humbles people while volunteering which in turn humbles yourself as well.

I love my job.  The highlight of my day is my interaction with my clients.  I constantly give up my weekends off when I know that clients will go without service because of lack of PSW's.  I genuinely care for my clients and I love doing anything I can to help my clients.  The only reason I Iam considering leave Red Cross Care Partners is the only labor dispute, and the fact wwe are not shown any appreciation for going beyond our responsibilities.  I also would love to find a job closer to my home in Acton   Before the recent stike I would work between 40-60 hours/week and I loved every minute of it.  I didnt get a chance to meet many co-workers as there was no company get togethers.  The few co-workers I did meet have become friends I keep in contact with.  The hardest part of my job is when the clients die.  It is very hard not to let it affect you.

I have volunteered several times throughout my high school years and later on into post-secondary years as well. I have never had a job because there was never really a need, but the time has come! Being apart of Red Cross was a simple and easy job, yet was very rewarding being able to help out in any little way. I love working with people and following directions as well as being given the freedom to make my own decisions and solve problems on a day-to-day basis. I am sure i can handle any task given to me required that i meet the requirements, and I am a quick learner as well. Even though I've never been employed, it's not that I am completely unaware of what goes on in the workplace, seeing that i did participate in my father's professional cleaning business for many years.

I learned how to really budget on little income,and no benifits.And how much I enjoy dealing with seniors.The management was rarely nice when issues occured.Not enough regular hrs. Schedule is all over the place.Co workers were generally good
The hardest part was not getting any help ,and the situations that some elders were left in.The most enjoyable part was spending the time I could assisting these people and getting to know them and enjoying them while being at work

While working for red cross I had a lot of fun, mostly because I got to be around children all day, although I did find it difficult to deal with parents of the children, or over bearing children (especially some who had special needs) but it did teach me how to deal with certain people and how to approach certain problems that might happen. The hardest part about working for the red cross was the pressure of being in charge of so many children’s lives, as well as adults. I worked alone, and unfortunately my management was new to the red cross system so we had a hard time working out certain things like paperwork for the students.

A typical day at work is driving from home to home in the community to help the the sick and elderly with daily livings such as laundry, house cleaning, bathing, dressing, cooking, medication that they take it properly. Usually work alone, the hardest part of the job is getting your day full of clients back to back without gaps in between that you do not get paid for, and the best part is you can pick your own start and finish hours.

I have been with the red cross for eight moths and I really enjoy it, our staff and customers are great to work with, it is a great place to start in the retail industry if you are interested as there is great support

We have great co-workers that help you along so you can further your skills and grow. learning is a big part of the red cross as I have been able to learn about great customer service, using the til, and color blocking and stock rotation. I also got to understand our products and what we are as an organization

Typical day is running GL details for many accounts, reviewing these GLs for any discrepancies, processing a correcting entry.
Working most of the day in an excel spreadsheet.
Running Financial Reports for many main accounts and departments.
Filing all financial reports in their appropriate folder.
Assisting in budgets.
Preparing cash cards to be delivered to branches within the province.
Email is a big part of the day.
Bank Reconciliations on gaming, petty cash accounts, deferred revenue, and accrued revenue.

Go to the clients house and do whatever that person needed done to help them stay in their house.I learned that after cleaning a client,s home they feel better. My manager was very poor. She didn,t really know how to do her job. The rest of the staff were great people.The worst part of the job was when my clients died. It was a very sad time. Helping the senior citizens to stay in their house and and  getting them to feel better doing it.
