The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. There is a great team culture here. 

The training is extensive and the expectations are quite high considering they pay minimum wage. In general a pretty busy store and you can expect to be busy all the time. There is no motivation to put your best foot forward in your work when your employer pays you the bare minimum they possibly can. 

I didn't hate working here but when you realize how much product this company sells vs how they pay their staff is very disappointing. As a huge multi-national company they could take better care of their staff.  This is a group of grown women working for minimum wage. If they took care of their staff as well as they focus on their sales, customers and decorating their store, this would be an amazing employment opportunity. 

The discount is very generous but don't be fooled. Giving people a discount so they can spend the money they make at your store and be a walking billboard to sell more clothing for you is not a benefit. 

There are no true perks or benefits to working here unless you are hired at full time. They keep almost everyone at part time.

Disregard the salary expectations portion of the online application. They avoided my questions when I asked about pay, perks and benefits in my interview and said they would be discussed upon a job offer. They will send you an onboarding package outlining the benefits but don't waste your time reading it, you will find out it doesn't apply to you when you show up for your first shift. Its minimum wage with no benefits. 

The schedule is really all over the place and you could be scheduled for any amount of hours scattered across any time of day. If you like to mix it up this might work for you. If you need consistency in your schedule this will be hard on you. Be very clear about your availability and ask for what you need up front.

If you are sensitive to noise be aware that the staff communicate through headsets all day which can be a lot on the ears. 

If you are just wanting a good discount on expensive clothes and other clothes under the URBN Umbrella, this is the place for you. 

If you are wanting fair compensation, benefits and to work for a company that is actually "about the people" this is not a place for you. 

Anthropologie provides an interesting and entrepreneurial experience for its management team. A typical day is anything but typical, there is a vast array of responsabilities that have encouraged me to become a creative and innovative problem solver, merchandiser, manager and teacher. Managing payroll and sales, handeling shipment, merchandising large scale divisons, hiring and developing, forcasting, reporting, presenting and managing a sales floor are all encompassing in a regular week. The team i work with is dedicated to supporting and uplifting one another; if we are not constantly coaching and developing, than we are not fulfilling our daily duty to one another and to our staff. The most enjoyable part of my possition is the constant variety i get to experience and the consistent challenges i face daily.

Anthropologie was successful in helping to develop my retail skills. I loved the work environment as I was constantly working with people and contacting other Anthropology stores within Canada. A typical day at work would entail fielding customer questions and concerns, as well as offering style advise and working at both the fitting rooms and cash register. I loved all the people I worked with and felt confident in our ability to work as a team to achieve company goals and quotas. The hardest party of the job would have been the high concentration of people on holidays and the stress of organizing the store properly to meet the needs of our shoppers. The most enjoyable part of my job would include fellow employees, loyal/returning customers and working in a field that I am passionate about.

A typical day at my job would be coming in and reviewing the numbers from the day before to see if we met our goals for that day. Then we would look into the plan for today and what we can do to ensure that our goals for that day are met. Tills would then be opened for the day and the plan for shipment would be set up.


Then right before we open I would call a meeting with everyone who's in and we would discuss the plan together and decide what to focus on that day (promos, suggestive-selling, etc) Then the day would start and I would run the floor, make sure everyones in the right position and that things are running smoothly.

I loved the environment and everyone I worked with, however some days seemed tedious and I didn't always feel like I was learning anything new anymore, which was upsetting.

The pay is just about the worst you could get, with absolutely no possibility for advancement regardless of your skills, qualifications, education or development. They want you to bend over backwards for minimum wage and then don’t understand why people aren’t acting like it’s their salary position that makes 6 figures a year. Management is unorganized, each manager has a different rule and they all just contradict each other. There was a great discount, but the clothes are still unaffordable even with the staff discount, and you are encouraged to wear the clothes even though this job barely puts food on the table. You could easily find another retail job that pays much better, and has a better culture/environment. 

Honestly not the best place to work. They will pay you minimum wage and don’t EVER expect to get a raise. They don’t care if you’re a hard worker, have relevant experience, have an education, or have demonstrated that you are capable at work. Management is unorganized, and to be brutally honest, quite rude, catty and unpleasant. The only thing good about this job is the discount; however, you make such little money you still can’t afford the items at a discount, yet they expect you to wear the clothes. Some of the ladies here are absolutely lovely and there was a great sense of teamwork and trust, but things have just gone downhill. You could easily find a retail job that pays much higher and also requires you to do less work, with less responsibility. 

The people who work at Anthropologie are extremely creative and are given creative license. Their visual displays are stunning and are unlike any other retail store in New York or Toronto. They create a "shopping experience" for their customers which is something that can not be duplicated online and that other retailers could learn from. The company has very high standards when it comes to customers and store appearance. They partner with artisans which makes their merchandise very unique and keeps the customers coming back. I worked at the store during Christmas and several customers commented how great the music and merchandise was versus other stores.

Great job while in school—early on, the team felt like family, and the employee discount was awesome. I made some friends there, too. Over time, coworkers became catty, and managers would threaten to fire you over scheduling expectations that had never been an issue in the years I worked there. 

This, along with management’s attitude, caused quite a few people, including myself, to quit. Raises were nonexistent, even if you took on manager duties, and respect declined, especially if you prioritized a second, better-paying job. I wouldn’t go back.

Management was always friendly and supportive. The great attitude carried throughout the store and a typical work day was full of positivity. The most difficult part of the job was how physically demanding walking on your feet for 8+ hours can be. Wear comfortable shoes. The most enjoyable part of the job was helping our customers find clothes and styles that they loved. I learned the elements to being a stylist and becoming part of the fashion industry.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The people you work with. We all had a great camaraderie. But I think that is because we had a great manager. 
I don’t think that’s the way it is with all Anthropologies. I was just lucky. 
Also definitely the discount. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
I didn’t have any stress. I worked mostly in the stockroom. It was a dream job for me 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very good when I was there. I think it depends on the manager.
