This was by far the worst place I have ever worked. I don't even know where to start...
First of all, you are essentially the doctor's problem fixer...for absolutely everything. My duties have ranges from unclogging toilets, to fixing internet connection issues to fixing printers..the list goes on and on. You are doing this all the while you are expected to triage the patients and also be a receptionist. Take into account, you are doing this for MINIMUM WAGE. You can easily find another job that pays you a couple dollars more at a local clinic or even at a hospital. You are working by yourself with the doctor most times, especially in the GTA locations and the only way you can look to others for help is through a WhatsApp group chat, in which you may not even get a response right away. You have no job security here and no certainty for the amount of hours you can get in a work week. In addition to this, if the doctor doesn't want to work one day and they decide super last minute, your shift can be cancelled the day of, or even a couple hours before. It's as if you're 'on-call' the entire time because shifts are not necessarily guaranteed. If working in the GTA locations, I would highly advise not to as well, because you will eventually have to work with the doctor who mainly works at the Grange. He is by far the worst individual to work with. He will yell at you (quite actually raise his voice), be extremely unprofessional towards you, and make you deal with the patients he refuses to see immediately while he plays candy crush in his office (sounds funny now but wait until you get patients yelling at you and then him yelling at you). Long story short...you don't need to put yourself through this unnecessary mistreatment by working here and getting underpaid. Spend the extra time finding a job that pays a couple dollars more and treats you a lot better as an employee. A lot of employees at Appletree Medical Group end up doing this after they have experienced the mistreatment, which accounts for the high employee turnover.

I graduated with a science background from an Ontario university and accepted a Medical Assistant position at Appletree after graduation to gain clinical experience, given the challenging job market. Unfortunately, my experience was extremely negative and not reflective of a safe or supportive healthcare environment.

Medical Assistants were consistently overworked and expected to perform multiple roles simultaneously. There was no dedicated front-desk staff, meaning that while managing clinical duties such as rooming patients all day, we were also responsible for handling 15+ patients at the front desk at any given time, including check-ins, phone calls, and administrative tasks. This created an unsafe and unsustainable workflow.

Breaks and lunches were not reliably scheduled, and it was common to work up to 10 hours without a proper break, despite being paid minimum wage. The workload and expectations were disproportionate to the compensation and training provided. Additionally, workplace culture was concerning; some physicians treated Medical Assistants with a lack of professionalism and respect.

Most troubling were certain clinical expectations placed on Medical Assistants. Injection administration was required after only one to two weeks of training, with staff practicing injections on one another. This raised serious concerns regarding patient safety, staff consent, and ethical standards.

Overall, the experience was overwhelming, poorly managed, and, in my view, not worth the stress or risk for the “experience” gained. I would strongly caution new graduates or those considering this role to carefully evaluate whether this environment aligns with their professional values and wellbeing. PLEASE THIS EXPERIENCE IS NOT WORTH IT. I WOULD HAVE RATHER BEEN UNEMPLOYED THAN WORKED HERE.

I was desperate for a job within my field and settled for this job. I worked at the Beaches location. The posting for the Medical Assistant at this location is EXTREMELY misleading. It is a franchised location so not as strict as the corporate locations. However, the HR manager uses the job posting under Athletes Care when posting for Medical Assistant at this Appletree location. The job posting fails to mention that this is more of a hands on job or you will be coming into contact with bodily fluids. You don't find this out until your interview. This is basically an underpaid nurse job, as you will be triaging patients and setting them ready before they see the doctor. You will be injection trained, which is supposed to happen after your 3 month probation period. Their bonus structure is total BS. You don't get paid for giving injections unless it's the flu shot, which is 50 cents a shot. Physicals are $2 a patient or $3 if it's a third party. On top of that, the contract will state that this is a full-time job but the doctor constantly has frequent closures. Some weeks you'll get 40 hrs, some weeks 20 hrs. Unless you are looking to study medicine, or wanting to become a nurse, this is probably the perfect job. The doctor I worked for was rather nice but the patient demographic, being over worked and put in extremely stressful situations ran me for minimum wage, ran me dry on this job. Towards the end, it became a toxic work environment as the OM went on a bit of a power trip. Glad I left. Good Riddance.

Appletree is a horrible place to work at, the management does not respect or value you at all. There is really no one to help you when working here as an MA, they don't ever have your side (as they say). Any concerns you have quickly get disregarded from head office, HR and Director of Operations.  They pay minimum wage when the average medical assistant job is $18-$20 dollars. Don't be fooled by their 'bonuses', you don't make that much. They are cheap and turn healthcare into a corrupted business by charging extra to patients and making them pay more when they don't need too. They won't pay for a receptionist so you are stuck triaging and doing the reception. The clinics are dirty and are not kept clean and should be cleaned professionally. The CEO is horrible and does not value his employees and is all about making money. There is no room for growth and I highly recommend going elsewhere unless you want experience for med school. As well, the whole system makes patients frustrated and you don't have the time to really help and be there for patients, job satisfaction is not there. They make you work extra hours, not flexible and does whatever they can to stop you for getting over-time even when deserved. So if you do decide to work here, remember you can say NO to some shifts!

The only good thing about this place is the decent experience you can put on your resume. Other than that they expect you to do everything under the sun , fulfill doctor requests, deal with patients at reception, keep exam rooms full, fix IT issues, restocking etc. all while being paid minimum wage. The doctors are great and really nice, its the management that is the issue. They are rude and expect everyone to be perfect robots 100% of the time, and will not tell you you are doing something wrong until weeks/months after the fact. I think this would be a better place to work if they treated their staff more respectfully and without the "everybody is replaceable" mentality. The only way you could advance here is if you become a "Team Leader" in which you basically become a senior glorified MA with an ~$2 raise. Other than that there's no room to grow. They really only care about the money, yet can't even pay staff a decent wage, and does not really care about the patients, but rather make the doctors happy. I would not recommend this job to anyone, you could get the same experience at any other clinic and work in a better environment and get paid a fair wage.

You get paid minimum wage for working as a nurse, receptionist, and housekeeping all at once. Without a guaranteed break. You also receive terrible treatment from some management (after the resignation of a few of them one after another, management has not been the same), some doctors, and patients. It is life sucking because of the negative company morale. You can be promoted to Team Leader (which is basically a "sugar coated" name for "Senior Medical Assistant). You get paid a couple $ more than an MA but you deal with a lot more things, stress level is extremely high and you are expected to be ON CALL at ALL times even weekends (especially if the clinic you are leading is open). You cannot support a family or a comfortable future while working here because of the constant changing hours or last minute cancellations. You are not guaranteed 40 hours/week unless you are willing to travel to different clinics around the GTA IF there are any shifts available.

I should’ve listened to the reviews. Every single word people write is correct. I’m so surprised that in a place like Canada, work environments like this is acceptable? It’s honeslty inhumane. You work crazy random hours (one day you could be working 10 hours and the next day you’re working 4). You really don’t get lunch breaks unless another MA is there to cover you (and usually they’re too stressed out with their own doctor and workload). You literally work 4-5 jobs, from scrubbing toilets to giving injections, faxing, cleaning, taking hearing and breathing tests. They want you to be everywhere at once... Most doctors are crazy and treat you like a slave, like you’re not even human (the amount of times I broke down crying while working here). They do not train you well for the job. Everyone you work with is extremely unhappy, the “team lead” could be someone your age and inexperienced on a power trip. I have PTSD from my experience here. Honestly, you can get medical experience in a better place, if you look hard enough! Please stay away, I don’t want anyone else going what I went through...

Working as a central booking representative for a group of medical clinics is essentially you and your team working as a central medical receptionist.

This meant that you would deal with patients every day, all day however they would typically not have the courtesy they might usually have if they were speaking to you in person. A generally high stress job, not due to the work, but due to the abuse you receive from callers on a regular basis. That is nothing special but just a disclaimer for any call center employee.

The work itself was easy enough but you were always busy and often behind.

Unfortunately the team was a bit inconsistent. Often times resources would be spread too thin and the pay was quite low so many employees tended to care little about the job. The manager had a dual role, so they had a completely separate job they had to do on top of managing the call center. 

This is not condemnation of the individual people but of the top-down how things were run. The team being overworked and underpaid.

It has been a pleasure to work with Appletree Medical Group as I have learned allot and it added up so much into my work experience particularly in Medical field. 
I have learned a great amount of medical terminology, work ethic timely fashioned priorities and team work.
I have learned a great way of management specially time management skill and prioritizing task and managing to complete work on time and be supper productive.
The work place culture is great at AMG as they treat each and everyone equal in a positive way and promote and advance individual based on their abilities and outcomes. It is in general very positive growing environment. 
The hardest part of my job is lack of proper training for weaker people. 
The most enjoyable part of my job is the great helpful team work environment. 
In general appreciate this company and have learned enormous amount of work experience and multi tasking.

The job itself was really demanding, medical assistants were essentially in charge of running the clinics, from administrative duties, clinical duties, inventory duties, and cleaning duties. It's mostly youth and young people who work as medical assistants, a lot of them want to go to medical school or want to work in healthcare in some capacity, or they want to work upwards within Appletree and work towards some sort of management position. The people you work with are cool because they're ambitious and all have cool, interesting goals, and the job itself is cool as well because there is a lot of independence in the position, and there are a lot of responsibilities for a medical assistant, but the fact that it's minimum wage for the amount of work a medical assistant does is unfortunate. However, I would recommend this job for a young adult who is interested in healthcare or medicine. You get really good experience, and you get to work with a lot of different doctors and specialists.
