There aren’t any breaks unless you work a full day shift. When lifeguarding, you have to stand and guard for 4.5 hours without any break, which is unsafe and the law states that guarding more than two hours without a break is …. not feasible. When teaching, you have to teach for 4.5 hours without any break, including stepping off to go to the washroom. Management cares more about pleasing new staff in hopes of them staying for more than a few weeks and less about old staff. Constantly getting sick from the kids (expected in this environment) but getting time off is a chore and management expects you to come in if you can’t find anyone to cover your shift, which happens often. Was called to come in on a day I booked off for a funeral… Youre really reminded that all you are to them is an employee. To top it all off, the wage is certainly not liveable and you have to put in ridiculous hours to even get by. The kids are cute though. 

Working at this specific location was not the best, but the Front desk manger and employees are very great to work with. I love the work that it entails and all the amazing things you get to learn about swimming, administration work and every interaction is very special(weather its good or bad). The work can be very repetitive, well is repetitive, and they really push you to do calls and get enrolment which truthfully sometimes felt like you were harassing people, to enrol their kids in swimming lessons. If the general manager and owner doesn’t believe you have what it takes you will get treated very differently and unfairly. If they don’t like you, don’t expect it to change because it won’t. Very under paid for all of the things we do as receptionist (it is not a typical receptionist job), no opportunity for growth (unless again they like you). The job is great, just not some of the management staff. 

I was one of the first people hired before the business was even finished being built in December 2016. Lisa, the owner, was the absolute sweetest. One of the most kind people I’ve ever met. The interview was so fun, and I felt very welcomed. She really cares about her employees. The management was great, I loved my co-workers. The training was also good we did online training as well as in water training. We got paid (at that time) a salary of $15 per hour when minimum wage was only $11.75. Decent hours, no early mornings or late nights. I’m not sure how it is now, but if it’s anything like it was when I worked there (up until November 2017), is highly recommend. That is, if you like kids, and if you enjoy fast paced, at times stressful, but still enjoyable environment! The only reason I stopped working there was because of personal issues at home that affected me emotionally at work, if that wasn’t the case I would have loved to continue working there:) great first job

Working at Aquatots seems exciting and there is a lot of promise of growth, but roles are ambiguous and training is good in terms of organization, but delivery of training is lacking. Management promises they are understanding, but will make many decisions behind your back and you get blindsided with decisions made, it is hard to trust management.
 Sales are pushed super hard and exceeded of you which is not a problem, it just sometimes feels disingenuous. If you are applying externally, expect a very convoluted and strange training schedule, along with an overly complex curriculum. 

My experience working at Aqua-Tots Kanata has been challenging due to the workplace environment. I often found the management style to be high-pressure, which contributed to a stressful atmosphere. In my experience, communication and feedback from management were inconsistent, and treatment of staff did not always feel equitable. Scheduling and expectations sometimes felt inflexible, which made it difficult to feel supported in the role. Additionally, there were occasions when internal communication about staff felt unprofessional. Overall, I did not feel that the environment was positive or supportive, and it did not meet my expectations for a healthy workplace culture.

Client care staff and management are great. Had zero issues with the manager of client care. The general manager on the other hand is impossible to talk to, doesn’t listen, talks down to the employees when she needs to talk to them about something and overall makes it hard to have any kind of conversation with her. There’s no room for growth, the salary for client care is inconsistent between new hires and existing staff, the salary is too low for the demand of the job. Seemed like a great place to work at first but the non-supportive management and the salary are not worth the stress of an otherwise fulfilling job 

I worked there for about a 2 months it was pretty fun but it was very faced paced the lessons needed to be done within 30 minutes and if you miss something to bad and go to the next group of swimmers there is also a lot of Varity in what you are teaching meaning you could be teach level 3 for one class in one class and 5 ins the next class witch i found made it sometimes hard for me to learn the teaching material fast enough they had also just got a new manager when I joined and I was let go because I couldn't learn the material fast enough but other then that it was a great experience.

I was there for about 4-5 months, the management was a bit iffy because there is very quick turnover, the management changed twice while I was there, and was about to change again as I was ending my position. The other staff there are quite nice, but they had all been hired way before me and very close so I found it very hard to fit in. Also there is no break room- it's just a bathroom (toilet and sink) converted with lockers and a bench, can maybe fit 2 people at a time. 

Working as a swim instructor has been a really positive experience. Management is super supportive and encourages growth through new roles and opportunities in the company. 

As a full-time student, I appreciate how understanding and flexible they are with scheduling. I feel supported both professionally and personally, and I’ve been able to take on new responsibilities while balancing school. It’s a great place to grow and be part of a strong, encouraging team.

Being a swim instructor at Aqua Tots was a great experience. From the start, I felt part of a dedicated team focused on helping kids build confidence in the water. The training was solid, so I always felt prepared and safe during lessons.

The best part was seeing kids progress from being nervous to swimming on their own. Each lesson was rewarding, and the supportive environment among the staff made it enjoyable to work together. If you were looking for a meaningful and fun job, Aqua Tots is definitely worth considering.
