I was the supervisor/secretary/bookkeeper/human resources/technical support representative in the busy church office. I worked for the senior and associate priests, supervised a secretary/receptionist and several volunteers and support workers.

Each day I interacted with my co-workers, parishioners, service providers, members of the Archdiocese, and members of the public. I prepared salaries for the priests, the office staff, the support staff, and members of the various church groups; prepared the bulletin for weekly Mass; prepared several financial reports to the Archdiocese and the Church; prepared checks to service providers; prepared deposits for the banks; prepared reports to the government, among other functions.

Because I had transitioned from being a manager in telecommunications for several years to a job in administration, the process was seamless in many ways. However, I was trusted to take care of thousands of dollars in church collection which I had never done before. I also learned the bookkeeping and check preparation part of the job in manual form and with minimal training, but later I upgraded to an electronic accounting database.

I thoroughly enjoyed the job. My least favourite part of the job entailed taking minutes of very long meetings.

Even though I worked as part of a team, I was solely responsible for the day-to-day operations of the office.

It was a project based job with a firm expectation in seeing completed results. It was up to me to initiate most projects I worked on and there were few projects that were given to me by my employer. Most projects revolved around graphic design that took forms in digital and print. Other projects required me to design long term formation programs for young adults and creating resources for these programs. It was a great learning experience and it was very fulfilling when working with the organization's vision in mind.

Helping families is very fulfilling, although it does come with a high baseline of stress due to the nature of working at a busy cemetery. Benefits were great, great staff. Negatives would be archaic filing and outdated methods (mostly physical records, cue card filing, daily use of an electronic typewriter with carbon paper(!) but would still recommend.

You will get to travel all across the GTA and experience a wide array of things in the Catholic Church. Office life is friendly and collaborative. My favourite part is that it empowers your faith life. You also get massive support from the management team. I would highly recommend working here.

Good company over all but not perfect, some policies and management are outdated. It's a very respectful job and has its perks like others but only so much room to grow 

Very professional, diverse work place that has a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere. Staff is upbeat, positive and always willing to lend a helping hand. Different departments vary as each has their own unique job. Many positives, including being easily TTC accessible.

The people are great but the salary is terrible. Does NOT keep up with inflation and does NOT reward for service rendered. There is NO appropriate connection in regards to salary issues. The HR refers you to the CEO who refers you back to clergy personnel.

Good company, Low salary. the management is excellent. Very polite people, a place to know better. the hardest part of the job is the works they ask you to do them but they are not your own responsibilities.

enjoyable place to work with great people and a good work-life balance. There are few to no opportunities to advance or grow, and the compensation is well below what it should be for the work required

Very supportive and accommodating. Offering flexible hours and medical and dental care. Managers take a real interest in you personally and professionally.
