If you're physically fit and are used to long shifts, this may be a good place to start your trucking career.  You are given a reasonable amount of freedom, get to spend all day on the road and outside, and there are tons of OT hours available to make bank.  But be warned: you will hear the joke "that's a pretty cool job" more than you can count.  It's funny the first time...

I can't speak for the company as a whole, but the location I worked for left much to be desired.  Mismanaged routes, short staffing, and favoritism caused many customers to hate the company.  As a driver, expect to hear all sorts of whiny BS from customers about how "the price per bag is too high, deliveries being late, look what the last driver did blablabla."  

Lazy full time drivers were coddled and everyone else was there to pick up the slack.  Management was passive aggressive.  Team get-togethers were boring, underfunded and borderline depressing.  There was no discipline whatsoever.  Trucks were left filthy for the next driver.  Brutal turnover rate especially for helpers.  Unsafe working conditions (ie - reporting a multitude of truck defects that would never be fixed).  The unnecessary drama encouraged by other workers and management was vomit inducing.

Hands down the worst part about the job is that most Arctic Glacier ice-making facilities make an absolutely GARBAGE bag of ice.  They regularly break apart regardless of how you handle them.  Not only is this time consuming, embarrassing, and messy - it's downright dangerous for all involved.

TL;DR - decent job for a season, perhaps to get started in trucking.  I wouldn't recommend hanging around after that.


  

I have been working here during this pandemic and I can only say it has been nothing but chaos. The management does not take anything into consideration for there frontline workers (dz drivers) who work 13+ hour shifts which is illegal in terms of drive time for dz drivers. no compensation for working during a pandemic when we drivers are always in and out of 15-18 different places in a day and dealing with cash money, multiple angry customers who complain they have been out of ice for so long. The list goes on and on. something needs to change here. come on people wake up there's better ways and systems you can put in place. I suggest listen to your drivers and your frontline workers in my opinion if you want a smoother work relationship.

In my 4 years working here I have seen so many people come and go due to being underpaid and over worked. Management also seems to puts lots of stress on employees from there superios, causing a chain link reaction. 

If you like working outdoors in 40 degree weather and carrying heavy ice everywhere in and out of places into freezers and ripping the cases open to place each individual bag, then go ahead this job is for you !

Please do not even consider this company to be reliable, respectful or caring towards its drivers. It's only ejective is sales and how fast you can get the job done. They push and push you to make as many sales as possible and ethics are one thing that does not count in this company. Management is beyond slimy and does not care anything about their drivers or staff. I know this from experience because I work for this company.
The absolutely do not care about your health or mental well-being. If you have any appointments that need to be taken care of good luck even trying to fit that within your schedule because they will guilt trip you.

BTW.. you have no privacy within their trucks since now they have Incorporated driver facing cameras. I heard from a previous driver that all of their drivers at once quit all together because a situation became so unbearable that they all banded together. This should be a Telltale sign of what they're work environment is truly like. Good luck to all and stay clear.

If you are looking at the Production Associate job posting, look no further, stay further. 

Ignore the job description. You are not "operating" no production line.  It is basically a stacking job. Your main duty is stacking ice packs on pallets throughout the day. Bags are around 40lb, but also expect to lift heavier things as required.

Change of management just happened few months ago here in Calgary area. The new/temp manager was transfered from other region. It has gone downhill in terms of treating its employees. No professionalism, completely lack of respect and rude.
You gonna get micromanaged to the max, get yelled at by the new chief from time to time. 

Unfortunately I do not recommend working here, turnover is high, pay is not great, similar jobs pay better out there. You don't get benefits. Company keeps you "Seasonal" forever. Working long term will also put strain on your joints and back. I really enjoyed working with the crew but the new management makes it unpleasant.

A typical day at work would be clocking in at the workplace at 5:30 AM and wait for a driver to be selected to work with me. I would wait as the truck arrives at one of its many destinations, and i would then unload ice off of skids onto a dolly to bring into the customers building.

I learned better customer relations, and to provide directions at a moments notice.

The management was outstanding, and i would recommend this position to anyone willing to work it.

The workplace culture was a healthy environment, which contained no discrimination.

The hardest part of the job was being moved to production when there was no available drivers for me. In production it has job duties that revolve around an assembly line.

The most enjoyable part of the job was i could set the appropriate pace for myself to complete all assigned tasks in a time efficient way.

Working seasonal production is pretty simple, but can be very physically challenging if you aren't going in with a mindset ready for some manual labour. You come in, punch in, your higher-ups give you a quick rundown of the day's work, and you're on your way. Then, it's time for the work.

If you can lift and chuck 40lbs of ice in a manageable bale, you're golden. Tough work especially for a whole day, and you'll be keeping an eye on the machines all the while. Any problems crop up, you tell the big guys and they take care of it. It's quick and comprehensive, and that's the best part of the workplace culture.

You work that floor as a team. Don't be afraid to holler if you need a hand. There's a certain sense of camaraderie among the workers. They're not afraid to help you learn how to run the thing more smoothly too.

The days can feel pretty long sometimes, it's repetitive work, grueling even, if you're not used to it, but the people more than made up for it from my perspective.

Work schedule was great work around my schedule with being a single parent who has his 2 kids 70% of time. Can't see many other companies doing that for their employees. Pay was very good during May to September lots of O.T. hours. But slow down during October to April which I can't complain Another pro new vehicles every 4-5 years. Con's seasonal job which out of work from November to March. But sometimes can turn into full time work for some employees. Great place to work if you are looking for seasonal job from May to September. Over all the staff was great, there's the odd staff member you would question why there have a job with company, But that is said at 90% of companies out there lol.

The pay was good. The people were nice for the most part. It was pretty clicky but a lot of workplaces are like that. The training was lackluster and the American counter parts were completely unhelpful and distrustful. You're expected to work all stat holidays. They don't tell you that when you get hired and work days there are no real set hours. You start and you go until you are finished which is one of the major reasons why I left. You're hours are completely dependent on other people and if they don't do their job in time. You have to wait there until you get all of your stuff to complete your job . There was zero work life balance. Management was decent. They listen to you and they tried to help but there's only so much they can do.

Arctic Glacier was a good place to work. The manager was welcoming, the staff were friendly and they did a good job providing training.

The work allows for a high level of autonomy, yet can be challenging due to having to move LOTS of ice. It helps to be in good physical shape.

They have nice trucks. And driving a clean, quality truck made the work a lot more enjoyable.

Initially they said they were flexible with how many days I could work. When I asked to work 2 days (instead of 5) they decided to let me go. So... there's that.

A typical day at work would consist of me and my line partner starting and setting up equipment,cleaning it if necessary. I worked both sections of the line bagging blocks of ice, and packaging them into bigger bags which weighed up to 50 pounds, and then lifting and stacking them on pallets consisting of 144 blocks each. I learned a lot about time management and working a line as a team to get the job done as effectively as possible. the hardest part of the job was the lifting but it became easier the more that I worked and exercised. The most enjoyable part was getting in shape and learning new things.
