Atikokan-General-Hospital

Atikokan is a very friendly place to live and work. everyone is so welcoming. This hospital does strive to be the best for their employees but obviously cant make every single person happy. The wellness comittee is great and they are always putting on events to get the nurses and healthcare team together such as wing nights, golf, pizza parties, etc. One of the cons is that full time employees still pay benefits off their pay stub approx 175$ a month, I find most employers will pay for their employees full time benefits. A lot of opportunity for overtime here. I am so grateful for the experiences I learned at AGH and the nurses were awesome. 

Its a code orange, which is a real shame... there's some great people working thanklessly working for decades, cleaners and such, but a fair enough number with titles with no direction or so afraid to lead because one needs to walk on eggshells. 

Some management even called home to warn of a tornado without alerting the org staff of the possible dangers.

Then there's the micromanaging  and faux inclusion.

If you have to, get your time in, assuming they would hire full time.

Despite my  complaints, The ceo is nice tho.

I really enjoy my position with AGH.
Everyone is very friendly and it very much has a small town feel to it.
There are a lot of new faces and things are changing rapidly.  The most enjoyable part of my job is to see the importance of our hospital to be people of Atikokan.  Management is friendly and professional and encourages growth and happiness of employees.
AGH is in a very unique position to offer healthcare professionals full scope, variable experiences.  Larger centers tend to overly specialized not allowing for the same learning opportunities.
The town is extremely affordable to live in as well.

This is my first job as an MLT.  It has been a great learning experience for a new graduate.  I have been able to learn about all aspects of running a lab.  I work full time with good benefits and lots of vacation time.  The on call hours mean I earn significantly more than I would if I only worked full time, with call ins increasing my salary by nearly a third.  

We are constantly growing and improving the lab and all members of staff get to play a part in introducing new methods and technologies. 

The town is small and quiet but if that's what you enjoy or if you want to quickly pay off student loans its a great opportunity.

this hospital is a nice place to work with a usually relaxed slow pace environment. as a registered nurse you have 1 shift on acute care and 1 shift on emergency (rotating each shift). good hospital to start out at as we have the tuition reimbursement program. a lot of change lately in management roles. the hardest part of working as  a nurse here is the 12 hour shift work as we do not have any 8 hour shifts or not enough staff to do so. Nurses do alot more here than in a big hospital such as draw labs by istat machine, ECGs, IVs, etc as we have no MET team etc.

Great leadership, supportive work environment, ability to participate in daily decisions, happy staff!

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Patient care in the province is suffering under current financial constraints

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Supportive and person-centered. Also growth oriented

Great place to work.  You have to be OK with living in a small town with limited resources.  The community is safe and the people are friendly.  This small rural hospital has limited options to treat acute illness and trauma.  Good team work is a must.  Management has treated me very well during my employment period.  Like the job.

Far & nurses are mandatory to work as psw in ecw. Poor staffing or no enough staff.  Vacation request is not answered on time, so you dont know if you will book a flight or not. Food is x4  expensive than in the city. Far & away no north allowance. Payroll dept is problematic. HR is excellent.




The place is going to become LTC facility and urgent care clinic. Most of the departments are already closed. Most of the employees have left the place. Total uncertainty, no one knows what direction is this place going to. Please think twice before coming.

I enjoy working at this centre, it is a small rural hospital but we offer a full range of patient services.  I work with a wonderful group of people who are highly trained, extremely supportive and care about the patient's they are helping!
