Aureus Energy

The basic overview of the job is to drive, operate and perform minor maintenance on hot oilers and heater trucks. 

This includes doing job/safety/ticketing paperwork, stocking the units with consumables, washing inside and out, fueling, loading diesel/kerosene for the burner, and interacting with parts/maintenance/office staff to get parts/work done.

Generally Hot Oil Sups work alone, but sometimes go out with either a swamper or fellow operator/supervisor depending on the job scope, workload, and truck availability.

Field days are probably 8-9 hours on average with travel to and from the shop - sometimes shorter, sometimes monster days. Really depends. Mandatory shop days Monday to Friday when not in the field, but are usually done by noon unless there is a lot of stuff to do.

Pay for hot oiler sups is very good - Salary plus hourly while working in the field. The work-life balance is excellent for well servicing - 15/6 schedule and the dispatchers will leave you alone if you have no interest in working extra days, or gladly lean on you if you do.

Benefits are average for big companies - Health, Dental and Optical, and some deductibles for massages, acupuncture and the like. 

Booking time off was almost never an issue or refused if you gave the office a week or more lead time to make a plan.

Advancement in hot oiling is basically non existent. Ops progress to Sups once they prove their competency, and that's where they will stay, since there are only a few spots above that which are filled, and there hasn't been any real division growth in the last five years.

The equipment is well built but older and starting to show it's age. Expect to find yourself jumping units on occasion due to equipment breakdowns, and having lots of little issues to work around while in the field.

The HR, safety, and payroll office staff are all pretty good to deal with for getting PPE and payroll issues resolved, during office hours.

Upper management by and large treats the hot oiling section of the heating/hot oiling division like it doesn't exist. Expect to not see much in the way of kudos directly from the bosses, or in company wide news emails from the vice president, meanwhile they can't gush enough about what the other divisions are doing and what exciting new work is coming down the pipe for them.

Getting work done on the units can be a headache - there are only a few shop bays crewed by a few mechanics that work Monday to Friday, 8 to 5 to handle probably close to 100 pieces of equipment from all the different divisions, and water transfer gear will often take priority since that's the big money maker and focus for the company. 

Also the company mindset is that they don't want to ever turn down any work when it calls in no matter what, so if they can try and push an employee into limping a truck through the next job, or for a couple days, etc. then they will do so, for their own convenience.

Getting support from the division office staff is a mixed bag. Getting ahold of certain dispatchers can be a struggle when you need them, and when you finally do get them to pick up/call back, they're irritated because you're bothering them, and this is during regular weekday office hours. The manager tries to have very little to do with the day to day running of the division and lets the dispatchers handle most issues, for better or worse. Not all of the dispatchers are created equally is the polite way to put it.

They want hard workers that don't bother them with questions or concerns, and don't rock the boat when it comes to job safety, client relations, whether the equipment is suitable for the job, unexpected issues that often come up, or ideas to improve how things are done, especially if those ideas would cost money.

Stay long enough and you'll start to see the cracks in the structure. Lots of nepotism; cushy office positions filled by friends of management when they aren't really qualified for the position, and it shows in the quality of their work. 

Aureus has a ton of foreign shareholders, and in addition to being cheap because they need to bring them a good return, a lot of the money earned heads south for projects there, while equipment in Canada slowly falls apart and isn't properly repaired or replaced. 

Gear gets put on the healing fence to rot and doesn't get fixed up, just slowly robbed of parts to keep the other units going without spending more money, until they decide it isn't cost effective to keep them, so off to the auction they go. Hot oiling hasn't seen a "new" unit purchased since 2019.

If you just want a job with good pay and work-life balance, and don't care about the organization you work under or advancement, it's a good gig. If you do care about stuff like that, you'll eventually be frustrated by the continued mismanagement of the company.

A typical day on the job could go from Loading/Unloading truck trailers, operating heavy equipment (loaders, tractors, skid steer) Prepping for jobs at the shop and assembling equipment (manifolds, diesel water pumps, servicing pumps and vehicles)
The company is very safety first. 
Management was really great.
There are some really hard days of labor and dealing with weather but there are some really great days as well. 
Once jobs are set up and running, things go smoothly as long as well monitored.

In the 6 years that I was employed at Aureus I was promoted 4 times, I was awarded more responsibilities and higher compensation.
They promote internally and provide you the opportunity to grow. I gained a lot of experience here which I have carried with me throughout my oilfield career. I would highly recommend working for Aureus. 

Great group of guys to work with.  They seem to be busier than most especially right now.  Sometimes its an unpredictable schedule but always get the time off when i ask for it or have a long hitch. The equipment is good to work with, but need to get a few more things up to snuff after being slower due to covid.  i like the opprotunity to work in the different depoartments like treating and heating. 

Go for the money but don't trust the management or a lot of the field supervisors. Only met three that were not a**holes.

I would suggest Thrive or Blueline as alternatives to Aureus if you want to get into the water side of fracing.

This company cuts corners on all costs, equipment never gets fixed and is always sent out to the field broken, organization is non-existant, you constantly need to keep an eye on your pay stubs as they like to not pay you for bonus hours or even a couple days you worked.

Terrible management. Horrible job structure. Poor project planning. Equipment was always broken, run down, or flat out not working. Would not recommend this place to my worst enemy.

Great place to work for, management   are great to work for as well, never had any issues, they try there best to be fare to all there employees, they recognize hard and loyal workers. 100% recommend. 

Great crew members to work with PM and supervisors are knowledgeable and willing to help. Management full of empty promises and poor neglected equipment always fixing things in field .
