Aviva is one of Canada's biggest insurers with some of the most inspiring workplaces and the most advanced systems however, the inner workings of the company tell a different story. Yearly bonuses are decent but salary is low compared to the industry standard. You are expected to go above and beyond in the hopes that your efforts are one day recognized by upper management. This carrot on a string may drive you to exhaustion within the role.

During my time there, I saw a very poor connection between the installation of managers and their areas of specialties. For example, employees have been working in one department for many years hoping to move into a managerial role only to learn that company decided to give the role to someone from a different department who knows very little about the department itself. This is a very common pattern seen. To add, nepotism plays a huge role in the architecture of promotions. Select managers are toxic and incompetent but are still protected by their superiors and by HR with little regard for the employees placed under them. Upper managements solution to toxic employees is to move them around the company rather than address the issue head on and implement concequences where required. I do not want to mince my words. If you're the managers favourite, then the sky is the limit and if you're not then you're just another cog in the claims machine, staying in the same role, within the same title, being bounced around the department.

Lastly, their work from home philosophy has been dissolved and everyone is expected to come into the office 2 to 3 days a week. When asked why, employees were told that they're not being collaborative enough and that the workspaces that Aviva has paid so much to furnish, must be put to good use.

Good place to start and gain experience but make sure to look to other insurers after you've gained some experience because I guarantee, you're worth more than what Aviva is paying you. They try to keep distracted with their shiny exterior but don't drink the company Kool aid for too long. Remain aware of your options.

Positive and all inclusive culture. Very supportive.’


What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Several meetings (Microsoft Teams) a day with colleagues. Generally one a day with clients either remotely or in person . Reports daily . Meeting with AVP weekly.

Working from home, yiu don't have the background noise as a distraction

Accommodating  to yiur famiky life.

Young people, not easy for older age group

Some days very busy and over worked

Aviva cares for its’ employees.  We have frequent huddles and are given many an opportunity to discuss any concerns we have.

i’ve been at Aviva for over four years and love the people i work with.   Aviva pays for courses towards the CIP and other related insurance designations.  stafthroughout the year .

Seems like a decent job but company is understaffed and severely overworks employees. no work life balance. if you have a problem management tells you to handle it yourself. not worth the pay or stress.

Deficient leadership, and terrible inexperienced. Only their  because they’re friends with upper management. Overall terrible atmosphere, VPs are not seeking for talented people but rather “yes” people who will not be a threat to them or their positions. If you are talented and speak up, you will be fired.   

Great people, room to advance and benefits were good too. Pay very low, too low to continue to work there. It is a good job to start out in the Accident Benefit world however not for an experienced Adjuster, pay way below industry standards not a lot of room to increase.

-Lots of work/hard to keep up which is good for some and bad for others
-No actual promotions for good work, you have to apply for positions, even then there is a culture of "favourites"

-Good benefits/stock options

Insurance, and adjusting in particular, is tough work. Aviva has been a great place to develop my skills, and they're always thinking forward to how they can improve. I refer people to the company, not because it's perfect but because they never stop trying to be better.
