BCCDC is a Centre that provides scientific and technical support to health authorities and governmental institutions in the form of laboratory services, expertise and studies related to public health and environmental health.
It is an institution where one can contribute to the advancement of health sciences and acquire new knowledge in the relevant fields.
The work environment at BCCDC is generally agreeable and the scientific community very friendly and helpful.
the most enjoyable parts of the job are probably the research work that a scientist can be engaged in and the interaction with external partners.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Treated very well. Very professional environment 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Not a stressful job. Co workers so supportive I never felt the job was stressful. Finding parking was stressful 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Positive. Coworkers were supportive as was management 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Worked call people collecting data for research

It's a really nice place to work and a place where you can learn a lot. People are super nice and It's not crazy busy, unless there's an outbreak. The environment is nice and employees are treated well However, there aren't many opportunities to grow in your career, unfortunately. So young people who are graduating or those who have experience, don't stay long. Only those who value job stability end up staying. The work is very interesting.

Pro: overall a good place to work, strong benefits and above average compensations. Interesting work portfolios that can be rewarding and valuable work experience. Can get to work with highly capable specialists with national/international renown.

Con: Limited upward mobility. Strong executive favoritism for select staff results in high management turnover.  Can be chaotic picking up pieces due to high turnover and demotivating.

Pure management, right hand does not know what left hand is doing.
Poor job allocation - some people overworked some not.
Often micromanagement - you need to notify when you are working from home and when have an appointment, As this can be understandable, sometimes very uncomfortable feeling.

The work is stressful and extremely challenging.  The management does not give support to staff,

It is a negative work culture.   The work is very cerebral and the majority of the people are unwilling or unable to interact with others,   Competition in the work place has overtaken everything 

As a covid contact tracing assistant. The work place was comfortable, and employees were always accomodated as necessary to help the workers feel safe and to be productive. The staff were all hard-working with a similar mindset to help promote community health.

I was encouraged to pursue learning more about the techniques used in the lab. I was also given an opportunity to act in a small administrative role to manage lab supplies which led to developing my communication skills as well.

You are given many responsibility, which allow many opportunity to learn. Good work environment, other lab techs are fun to talk to and improve the work culture.

Nursing and admin teams are great but leadership is poor. Toxic, non supportive culture. Favoritism is typical. Micromanagement, process heavy, still use paper systems.
