Great job loved working with residents and staff most training done on site. Learn as you go taught me how to do seminars very open to new ideas to help residents. Residents very helpful also has traditional program, sweats can go smudge anytime and talk to elders . They have a great philosophy that staff and residents learn and always using parts of philosophy in helping residents get through day to day struggles. Staff work great together in group with residents and in seminars and assist residents in further understanding and help in setting goals. Residents stay a minimum of 3 months and can stay up to 2 years and still have contact with their key worker after leaving the program. Have a lot of success with residents once they leave the program and stay off of drugs or alcohol . Children are welcome in the program with their parents, have school and daycare on site. Parents can attend school and graduate also can do out and find a job and stay in the program. Program is a work based program with morning meeting at 7:00 then breakfast and work crew starts at 8:30 in the morning.

Working at BHF has taught me valuable work-related skills and has helped me grow. It has also broken me as a person. Senior management is toxic and there is a lot of clique-y behaviour amongst staff… if you don’t fit in, you will get pushed out. Cruel behaviour is considered acceptable from some, while others get reprimanded. Senior management is also quick to believe one side of the story while completely dismissing the other. 

The pay is bad. Really bad. Especially once you consider the high stress environment every day. The benefits are good (if you receive them on time) but offer very little towards mental health support. 

If you decide to work here, you will receive excellent training and work experience for this field. Take care of yourself, and be wary of toxic management who won’t hesitate to twist the situation to benefit them. 

Toxic management and one Director that consistently gossips about the staff. No support from management, as they reap the benefits while taking advantage of their frontlines who do all the work. VERY unsafe for staff, as management always covers up the truth. Management tends to be one-sided, favouritism is bluntly obvious. Pay is horrible for expectations. Don’t stay past 2 years-one $20 raise per year don’t cut the risk and work load expectations. Most senior staff have moved on the last 2 years as cost of living, experience, cut benefits, wage freezes over the years, have driven them elsewhere. New hires are pawns as managers want low salary versus experienced staff. Traditional is the best thing about BHF. Starter job only for experience, not career oriented. 

Great place to gain experience in counselling and case management. Salary is laughable but the benefits make up for it as Manulife is incredible. Staff training is a joke. Staff tend to work against each other instead of focusing on the client as the most important part of the job. Client Centred Trauma Informed Care are buzz words they claim to live by, but the staff that have been there for 5 plus years essentially believe in a TC cult and are unwilling to grow the foundation into something wonderful, which it has the potential for. 

Be prepared to be working overtime due to employees calling in sick.
Your "training" will never end as the model that is used is called Therapeutic Community model-do your research.  This model allows residents to walk into an office where confidential information is being shared by staff, therefore the clients use that to their advantage in manipulation.  You will most likely go through a burnout period.  You must be aware of safety concerns due to the violent nature of some residents.  There are no cameras in facilities.  Management generally will not provide support when needed. Pick your battles.

No security onsite, you have to deal with a lot of difficult, aggressive residents but they don’t give you the proper tools to deal with it. Management members are inconsistent in decision making and don’t seem like they communicate with each other well – leading to a lot of frustration. Employees who once used to receive treatment at this Facility are essentially treated like they’re superior and whatever they say goes. I would say it is fine for an entry level job to help enter this field, but one shouldn’t stay here for more than a couple of years. Poor wages also. 

Former youth case worker.  New management in Selkirk made significant changes.  Provided more assistance about model of therapy used.  However lots of burnout.   Very poor initial training.   Safety an issue .  Residents coming from severe trauma and very deceptive finding ways to deceive staff and management.   Managers tried to be proactive but was in vain.  Former Director falsified incident reports.   Learned a lot about culture.

Toxic work environment, favouritism is obvious. The pay is not worth the workload, and staff are constantly burnt out. There are some good days that make it feel worth it, but there are far more bad days. Bullying/gossip is common amongst staff and management. Best part of the job was working with the residents and community, it is a great program for them. 

Terrible management. Letting great people go. No advancement at the one in Selkirk. Don't know about Winnipeg!!
No incentives. I think they should not get bail outs as they are not doing their job.
Too many people related on the foundation Board and Workers.

Awesome place to work for its just too bad they closed it's selkirk location. Great staff. Friendly work environment. 
And plenty of opportunities  to grow with the company.
