I do not recommend this company to individuals who are not born or at least raised in Canada and are hoping to start to learn a career in this country. Sure you’ll get secure hours, fair wages, insurance, free boots and pants sometimes pizzas!! like everyone else but definitely not adequate respect or fair opportunities to learn and grow like some others who accidentally!! happen to have fundamental shared cultural similarities! So it all depends on what one’s expecting from their work environment and employers. At Berts if you can’t make proper network with people in power you get to nowhere, no matter how long you stick to the company and how hard you work.  Sure enough many would even loose motivation to put their best since they don’t see any improvement or progress in their career. No need to mention how much negative effects these issues have on one’s personal life and other not work related affairs.

This is a terrible company for both apprentices and red seals. 
This company will not value or respect you. You will be severely underpaid and over worked.
Through management/ ownership's lying and mismanagement, ive had happen to me:
- benefits randomly cut mid employment, but i was deducted every pay cheque for 6 months
- sick days denied because ownership didnt agree with the govt mandated sick day employment laws and told me 'its not just free govt money'
- pay raises communicated from ownership that never actually happened or planned to happen,
- management decided to cease submitting hours to the ITA, so now i have 6 months of employment unaccounted for,
- ROE's for attending trade school processed as quitting, resulting in substantial pains attempting to get EI whilst attending school.

This is just from top of thought. This company has taken advantage of their own employees since ive started. 

There are constant problems from the apparent nepotism on full display from the employees that hold management positions . . . . . . . . 

Will hire just about anyone but also not afraid to fire anyone that doesn’t pull their weight.
Exclusively construction mainly focusing on high rise/mid rise. If you stick around long enough you will eventually get a taste of everything related to electrical construction. But if you are noticed to excel in certain areas of work you will mostly stick to that. Don’t be surprised if you’re always on the slab. 
I think the pay is generally lower then other similar sized companies. No shortage of work and strict 40 hour week, very rare to work OT.

I was offered a job at Berts despite my lack of qualifications and one of the owners personally helped me greatly. Some very good caring people working at every level of this business. It is a competitive environment that requires hard work and maximum reliability. If you can meet that requirement you will find yourself working with a company owned and operated by fair-minded and practical tradesmen. Almost all the staff in the office running the business itself are electricians. I would recommend Berts to anyone who is serious about getting work done. It is however a stressful work environment as you will want to do the best you can for the people you work with.

I started working as an apprentice super new in the field. I think Forman and leaders should be more understanding of new employees. New apprentices have less experience thats why we are paid less. They expect you to know everything first day. Some high school kids don't even know how to hold a impact driver properly, are told to do rough in. You will be working with a 2nd year apprentice not red seal electrician do not even expect that.
Other guys on the job super awesome best attitude you can imagine. But the leaders are not understanding swearing and all (all the time). No job security at all. They will threaten you for your job everyday.
Even if u cross your 3 month probation lay off is another way to get rid of you.

Don’t work for Bert’s as a service electrician. It’s not what it seems. You will be doing projects, construction sites, maybe a service call every blue moon. Their service call clients are not steady. They are good at presenting a tempting position, offering you the world, offering a van, flexibility, positive work environment… most guys hired didn’t have a service van until much later, no gas card. Some (not all) of your coworkers will throw you under the bus to make themselves look good. They are good at poaching people, only to later back track. If you’re good at your company, stay put.

It sometimes depends on the site they send you to and who you work with. I had two different sites, one had a friendly and productive atmosphere, whereas my second site had me working with a group that was rude and obnoxious and treated me like I wasn't valued. I also didn't like the commute to Vancouver every day when I lived in Chilliwack. The pay is good and you usually get a raise every 6 months depending on your hours. They teach you pretty good, but the work gets pretty repetitive.

If the project slows down they will find a way to fire you, even if they have to blame you for someone else's mistake.
worked for them on a highrise tower and once the roof party was done, I started to notice they suddenly became really picky on me a few weeks later they claimed I was being slow and I wasn't working as fast as 10 years of experienced formen as an apprentice

great workplace and well run company. actually seem to care about thier employees and safety. online training university is pretty awesome and most companies make you pay for the programs on there. paid breaks. construction companies are usually pretty rough but this one is better then most.

The work at Bert's is decent, but be prepared to fight for your right to stay. They are much more focused on dimes than the well being of their employees. Very harsh on speed and verbal threats and use of intimidation are commonplace as far as what I have experienced. The foreman himself was actually fairly nice however.
