Working at BHP Billiton Diamonds (now Dominion Diamonds) was a good work experience for me.  My background had been the military for 23 years so it was a different working environment.  Safety was stressed a lot, which was not a lot different from my military training although I saw the stressing of safety as an attempt to instill a "Safety Culture" into work that historically did not have one. I managed personnel that did not have the advantage of a military training before I got them so learned quite a bit myself about that part of the workforce.  Management was very supportive although instilling a "Security Culture" in a mining atmosphere was not easy. Mining of Diamonds in Canada was new and the security around a high-value product at a mine-site and at a valuation facility in Yellowknife was different than if had been for gold, which was the only experience in Canada. The most enjoyable part of the job was when a shipment successfully departed Yellowknife for sale over-seas. We developed a very successful and conscientious security team to work with the operators to accomplish this - it was gratifying when it all came together.

and a real commitment to zero harm in the work place , i found BHP to value employees with the opportunities to progress with in the company, during my employment with BHP i completed a twelve month trainee ship as a maintenance planner which allowed me to progress  into a full time position .
  while i was employed by BHP i felt valued as a part of a team with a common goal my role  required me to create maintenance plans within SAP and also display these with MS Project ( Gant Charts) for the maintenance supervisors / Managers , a typical day for me would consist of reviewing all notification and priorities the urgency and schedule them accordingly .

High standard of work expected.  Emphasis on work safety.  Work environment facilities excellent.
In most departments in which I worked, management style was good.  One department was bad in that the head of department could be considered a bully.
I most enjoyed working in the science technology division where all staff members were pleasant individuals and the work interesting.

Great people, I enjoyed working with the team of IT, engineers, Admin, HR, finance and other. The people were very good and putting torgether a plan and executing that plan. Or as they would say "Plan the work and work the plan" I fond that the thing I miss most is the people there, however I still have contact with quite a few people from this experience.

Very large site, new potash mine build. Safety rules are 10 years in the future to most construction in the prairies but can easily be part of workers every day activities if aware of surroundings and accept responsibility for his/her own life safety and others around them

Overall, working for BHP has been a very positive experience, I learned many new skills. The management style is transparent and honest. My co-workers were great as well. The most enjoyable part of the job was the variety my role provided and liaising with different cities for recruitment related activities.

The Managers at BHPB are qualified for their position and are a pleasure to work with.

  There is a good safety and quality culture at BHPB.

  If one chooses to work with and and show consideration for everyone BHPB it is a relaxing and pleasant atmosphere.

Huge company with some lack of direction in the past. 
Environment is great to work.
Lot of opportunities if you are willing to grow. 
Enabling management.
However, oil and gas business sometimes has its ups and downs, you cannot blame a company for the reactive steps they sometimes take.

By far this is one of the best employers, great culture, safety is a priority, good processes, guidelines and procedures; excellent organization that uses SAP and other top of the line softwares

Plant operator experienced in large mining equipment for production of iron ore fill in supervisor hours of the position can be hard as you are away and isolated for two weeks at a time but if you consertrate on the job on hand you can overcome this
