Atypical day at work is monitoring and supervising approximately 10+ staff at a time. Dealing with social service representatives, daily programming implementation and training.
I learned how to multi task with daily operations, management updating, counsellor meetings and interviewing new employee prospects.

Management training of over ten years has shown me all aspects of teaching staff, programming design and implementation, outsourcing when needed for home repair and staff training. Dealing with outside counsellors, behavioural therapists and parents to ensure everyone is aware of current conditions and progression of residents with programming designed for each individual.

workplace culture was mainly dealing with training, hiring, conflict resolution and ensuring all staff felt a part of all steps in the care of residents and company operation procedures.

the hardest part of the job was dealing with management and keeping them up to date on the small issues that arose and has been dealt with to company standards. Although I am very comfortable with conflict resolution individually, when management chose to be involved things would be more difficult. too many cooks ruin the soup.

The most enjoyable part of the job was seeing staff, parents, case workers and most important, residents having fun.

Over the time that I worked for Blooming acres I was a team leader and I must say that this job is a horrible opportunity to experience the field. I worked at the owners farm location and on a typical day we would spend a bit in dealing with restraints. Management was very poor and often would not be very supportive of the staff. The owners would put themselves on the schedule as ON - Call but never available to help. The owner were really fake people who often lied and boosted the place for being a lot better then it is. Staff often got hurt on shift and the compensation for the work was poor. The owner often hand picked kids he taught in college to work for him and often would pick bigger males to deal with the behaviours. The enviroment was awful and I do not recommend working here.

More focus should be on the employees and how they executed their day, through reflection and feedback. This is critical in the early training day so they can gain confidence.

Often not enough balance of responsibilities across supervisors. Some did way more then others and some did the very least to get by. This was not recognized by management.

The work was satisfactory although it took many months for the 'controlling/OCD' office manager to "trust" that I actually knew how to use a computer (of which I had been using for 20 years or more). Their filing system was bankers boxes piled high and wide that I had to get in and out of on a daily basis thus causing severe carpel tunnel in my right wrist. Most of the staff were great to work with other than the office manager who was very O.C.D. and controlling (in her own way).

Over worked, under paid, bullied, undervalued, working environment is unsafe and management lies to staff parents and other governing bodies

Exhausting, stressful, no help, no assistance, being told everything you’re doing is wrong

The client’s owners and wonderful people there

I found this company cares so much and when they’re is stress they work with you

Working together as a team and making sure all clients have the best care

1 to 1 resident care.  Restraints are almost daily with take up to 4 staff leaving remaining staff to take other residents to another room in the building.  Unfortunately the other residents are set off  and the staff remaining struggle to help calm the other residents.   The rate of staff injury is high due to attacks from residents.  There are no benefits and the pay is very low.  

Was harassed, unsupported by management, placed in dangerous situations that could have led to injury or even death of workers and clients.  Management would cover up when staff contacted the LRB about working conditions.  Senior management was clueless about conditions in the home and was unresponsive when notified of problems.  Worst place I have ever worked.

Forced to work 3 12 hour shifts and an 8 hour shift and alternating weekends, management is useless. The residents are great but management and ownership view them as dollar signs and don’t really care about the kids other than just keeping them alive. Behaviour therapist uses practices that are borderline mental abuse on kids. 

The residents were amazing and changed my life forever.
My on floor team was amazing, the trust and support built was like no other.
I learned who I was. I found my strengths and how to use them. I learned to identified my weaknesses and leaned to overcome them.

Personal, medical, financial support really lacking from management and the company.
