Work with minimal supervision. Able to choose hours (mostly) by talking with client and family to see what is suitable for all involved. Most of the work is out in the community with he client. As each client  has specific needs, what work is done depend on individual needs. Communication is imperative. Most of the duties required are respite for the family and helping integrate the client into social setting such as Boys and Girls Club, YMCA, parks, malls, meals out, etc... As well with older client, teaching bus routes, hygiene (personal as well a  laundry), making use of time management, making good decisions, etc... Working with the public is gratifying as well as making a difference in someones life.

Typical day: arrive, previous shift staff might give you an actual shift change report but are just as likely to bound out the door leaving you no information. Complete medication and petty cash counts, attempt to read reports from previous shifts. Spend most of the shift trying to keep clients on program, attempt to get them to do something in the community, likely spend most of the shift watching tv if the client doesn't want to do anything. When clients get escalated, use techniques (UMAB) to deescalate or restrain. General housekeeping and cooking. Some on the spot counselling. Medication adminstration. Drive clients to appointments. 


Working here was a terrifying experience purely because of the way that this workplace is run. Whenever a crisis situation happened, there was NEVER a debrief with the staff or managers. The lack of empathy towards the staff from the managers in this company is astonishing. The homes are understaffed and staff are often left alone to deal with crises. People burn out quickly because of this which is why it is so important to debrief with your staff. I think the owners and managers would benefit from empathy training, the staff deserve better here.

Working with children who have ADHD and who have Autism Spectrum Disorder

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
You are a self contractor so you don’t have much work culture and don’t work closely with other employees

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
As a self contractor you work with clients in different environments from in home services to hospitals, schools and other environments

Terrible management. No chance of advancement or further training. They hire friends of other employees who have no training in social sciences. Clients programs are not enforced. Management blatantly admits they have no interest in rehabilitating clients to improve their lives so they can move on. Stay away from this company, it's not the same business model Ontario follows.

I second this and would ABSOLUTELY NOT want a family member/friend living in any of the homes in Truro NS, as per personal experience the goal is to not provide support. The clients are fed and have a roof over their head, and that is it. Very poor management. Lack of qualified staff. No training provided, regarding mental health/addictions, not enough staff, Very sad and disappointing situation.  I have suffered nothing but harassment from management. 

I've worked within two catchment areas for Bartimaeus and greatly enjoyed the flexibility and ability to create your own schedule they provide. Service Coordinators are knowledgeable and kind, and the work you do is important and makes a difference. Working privately as a Behavior Consultant has a lot of perks; great pay, meeting new people, getting in-depth experiences with many different people throughout your day, locations and agencies. 100%, would recommend.

The people I work with are so kind and real. They dont want you to work somewhere that you dont like so they match you perfectly! Im so happy I switched companies to work here. They work hard to get you as many clients as you need/ want. Lovely company ! 

This was the only job I was able to switch shifts if I had to switch for child care or an emergency.Staff are all very friendly and answered all my questions.Typical work days include helping the client do the program that they typically don’t want to do.
I found this job very rewarding.
