During the interview with Manager and her assistant, you will get a lot of promises, which are just not true: we were told we were getting paid a higher rate than usual because of our previous experience, just to find out later that our workmates with no experience at all, where being paid the same. They also will tell you that after 3 months, they will increase your hourly rate. When you are in month 3, that will not happen as it did with some people from our team. We were also told the staff accommodation is located less than 10 minutes walk from the hotel, but it is at least 20 across the highway, if you don't have a car you will feel it.  

About the everyday work, you will be poorly treated by the management. She will hardly greet you in the mornings and will never talk to you about the plans for the day or any team concerns. She just leaves a list of your rooms over the table and will not explain any change on the schedule or will never come with a plan for really busy days, it will be just there written down on a paper. The only times she will talk to you is by Facebook messenger (yes, you will have to add her to your friends), and that will be whenever she has been out there supervising,  sending you several pictures of the mistakes she has found from your work. She will never ever ask you about your busy days, or how bad your rooms were because there's no communication at all. She has so little work ethic that once after I reported a blocked toilet with lots of toilet paper balls in it, she came to the room I was cleaning, upset,  took the kitchen tongs and spatula, unblocked the toilet bowl with them, threw the kitchen tools in the kitchen sink I had already cleaned, and went away.

If you are unlucky enough to work on the 3rd floor, you will hear her from your rooms talking with her assistant in Spanish about you and your workmates job but she will never come talking to you about things you should improve or the things you are doing right. She will usually be talking about your workmates in her mother language without caring who is around or even less if you are a Spanish speaker as well.

Of a team of about 9 people, there are just 3 left, all of them aregone because of the manager and her assistant.

Management- there basically is no management all our employees are not even getting paid there full right amount of hours and when they stay longer to help try to finish the job the GM says he will approve there over time and since December there check issues along with mine have not been corrected if Brent batten was taken out from being GM i think this hotel might have a chance he used to be the HR and bell-star took over now he doesn't know his head from his feet and doesn't do anything but run and hide from everyone he owes money to not only employees but company's that help us out a lot. 
Coworker's are the best part of this job if we didn't have each other to try and figure out some situations we would be lost were glad we have each other.
 hardest part of the job is when something happens and there is nothing you can do about it because its a higher up department that has to approve of our orders like soap shampoos ect.
My most enjoyable part is seeing the guest happy I went over and beyond for guests who came here , I helped a guy set up his room for his new to be wife he was proposing to her and wanted some ideas or help but i set it all up candles rose pedals champagne and it was so worth it know that she was getting surprised and this was a big life change and I got to be a part of it, also there was a woman who got married a year ago and her and her husband never really had a honey moon so the room they rented for a couple nights I went in again with the pedals only placed them in the shape of a heart on the glass table with champagne glasses crossed in front of a bottle of chilled champagne and i place rose pedals over the head board a single rose on the bed candles around the heart on the table fire place turned on and some nice romantic classical music.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
My experience here was disappointing due to poor communication, unfair scheduling, and a lack of transparency from management. During the winter season, employee hours could be reduced without proper notice, which made it difficult for staff to plan financially and personally. Employees were often expected to adjust their schedules, change shifts, and cover shifts outside of their regular availability to support operations, but that flexibility often did not feel appreciated or respected in return.

There were also concerns about inconsistent treatment and accountability. At times, it felt like certain employees were supported or excused despite repeated issues, while others were held to a different standard. This created an uncomfortable and discouraging work environment, especially for staff who were trying to be dependable and cooperative.

After months of commitment and support, my employment was ended without cause with very little explanation, which was extremely disappointing. I would strongly encourage future applicants to ask detailed questions about scheduling practices, management style, fairness, and workplace culture before accepting a position here.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The workplace often felt less focused on fairness and more influenced by favoritism. Employees who consistently step up for the company should not later feel disposable or held to a different standard.

Do not apply to the job expecting a job where you can chill out and do whatever you want. The job isn't easy but its worth it. Customer service skills are an absolute requirement as you're dealing with people from all over the world and some people are easier to deal with than others. 

The upper management do everything they can to support their staff and genuinely care about the staffs well-being. There's room for growth if you care enough to put in the effort. 

There is lots of turnover but it is to be expected in an expensive town, its not a Bellstar specific issue in my opinion.  

This job was my first job in Canmore and helped me facilitate my move to Alberta and I've had nothing but positive experiences even on the tough days, met some great friends and I am genuinely sad to be leaving.

The people that have had negative experiences have sought out for it to be that way, the tourism industry is tough, grab a helmet!

I would like to work much longer if nothing wrong from management happens.

I had work there for a year, I couldn’t get all benefits as the contact form said.
Even when we tried to discuss about the process of any benefits, the management just tried to email and waited for the response from the department of their benefits management.
 
We tried to do work well though, the management give us more restrictions to work and save their budgets and protect their income. The discussion never went  well even when all staff tried to talk on our reality.
They just consider about anything from online information and the market averages not from us.

If you have any chances to choose same position as here at other places, I highly  recommend that you should apply others at first.

You should not trust their contract form, and any verbal promises.

If you like to be welcomed by disorganize management, come here. Staff accommodation is an ongoing issue, brand new apartment but filthy due to no proper management. You will not feel welcome working here and do not care if you flew or drive all the way from a different province/continent. They will give you a key and go figure out your place and parking! Your pay will be over taxed and hidden fees. No visible HR staff helped. Be ready to be really understanding about staff shortage, as you will be left to manage a building with owners and private owners with tons of unit and building issues. Building is deteriorated, no amenities and they only cared about revenue. You will end up stressed while Managers are always hiding, lazy, strolling around somewhere and avoiding all issues. Now they wonder why staff quit? Absolute shame. This is not a Front Desk job, you are hired by Bellstar then you are an underpaid Condominium Coordinator. 

Bellstar Hotels—Solara Resort and Spa is not a Resort nor is it a Spa. What it is, is a condominium management firm, yet you're called a "guest services agent".

What you are, is basically a point of sale customer service agent that deals with rentals of condo units, essentially nothing like a real hotel.

The general manager was a nice guy, but avoided helping at all costs, and the manager just didn't offer enough patience to learn the job properly. Everything was expected to be known within 2 weeks or less.

Everyone encouraged you to not leave the desk for a break (???) over 8 hours, and just said eat there. I often said "no, I am going for a real break" which I believe led to my termination.

Absolutely abhorrent, abysmal and punishing place to work. Would never recommend.

2 stars awarded for one or two cool-ish work mates.

Although my work experience here was exceptional, the management was lacking terribly. If we were to make any sort of mistake, nothing was brought up to us; we would be left out of the loop. There were a lot of great people working at this hotel, but due to a high turnover rate in Canmore, they would let people go here and there like it wasn't an issue whatsoever. If they had any sort of issue with an employee, instead of trying to resolve the issue with that individual, they would instead just "let them go". I had already heard beforehand they were having trouble keeping people. And while I was working here, the hotel rating went from 4 stars down to 3, which is a huge slump for a hotel. Hopefully things will work out better for them in the future.

Everything they promise in the interview process, cut those expectations in half and you're closer to the truth. They'll say anything to get you in the door, then they pull the rug.
Their training protocols are an absolute mess, none of the senior staff agree on how to get things done, and they all try and make you do it *their* way, so between the 4-5 senior staff members you'll always be 'doing it wrong' even if you had your direct manager showing you the process step by step. Every professional and exceptional business follows SOP's, but not Bellstar.
There are hundreds of good options for employers in this industry, and Bellstar is not among them.

I spent one summer season working in Solara Resort & Spa in Canmore. 
Managers were always opened to discussion and to new ideas regarding our day-to-day work. Short team meeting (almost every Friday) were used to review guests feedback and plan for next few days what was great. Coworkers were really helpful and the team was ready to spend some extra time to fulfill the day plan and to help each other. The work itself is not easy, and it requires some physical and sometimes mental strength too. There is also staff accommodation available close to the resort, and some are quite far. We had one 5 min walking distance from the resort.
