Below The Belt

I enjoyed my time with this company, however it slowly got worse the longer I was there, and it sucks that the last couple months of bad encounters I had with the company, has sort of wrecked the good memories beforehand. 

The manager is not approachable, and would often act as though you are stupid if you asked her to repeat herself/didn't understand something, in addition to also being overly-critical, and often subtlety played passive-aggressive/petty games.
It was very evident that I was less valued than colleagues who in my position, I did NOT receive the same level of training or even care as.
Even though I was succeeding in my position,  there reached a point where I was suddenly treated as obsolete by the manager, like I didn't know what I was doing (despite being there multiple months prior), and was not able to do many parts of the job anymore. 
I did highly enjoy my fellow co-workers that became some of my closest friends, and I did feel a sense of belonging while working alongside them, and confiding in them about my feelings. This was a pillar for me.

Overall, I don't regret working here because of the friends I made, encounters I had with customers, and experience that I gained, but what I felt while working here (especially in the last few months), are things I wouldn't wish on another worker. I would consider walking the other, way unless new management has been put into place.

Not a good working expierence!!!! Boring. Drama. No control when manager is not there. People who use till take your sales. Co workers Clocking in for co workers who are late. Tricks you into thinking you’re making 2% commision. Manager hires friends who bully her old staff. Didn’t even feel like I went to work, just felt like I was there to “hangout”.  Sometimes I would come to work and nobody would be working just standing around the till talking, not paying attention to customers. but I would get in trouble if I was even near the till. Letting friends come behind the till and in the backroom. Always a mess. Especially in fitting rooms.
Wouldn’t recommend working here unless you’re a fake insecure person. Also, forced me to sell but then when I got good at selling told me to not pay attention to customers. Cause only “key holders” should be good at selling, but in reality they just take house sales and put it under their names.  Inappropriate music when manager isn’t around. Rude staff who get jealous if you do good at selling. Sensitive staff who plays victim if you call them out on when they bully old coworkers on social media. 


Good for your own personal benefits gaining expierence in customer service and a commision sales environment but that’s about it.

Not a good place to work. It seems fine at first, pretty relaxed environment, but gets boring super quickly. Coming to work basically to “hang out.” If you want to be treated like garbage by the manager, go right ahead and work here. All other staff are great to work with but management makes it the worst. Only hires “just enough” people to work so you can’t take days off. When management isn’t there, easiest place to work, when Managemtnt is there, time goes by super slow, can’t be around the till, and manager will steal sales from you. Says you make “minimum wage” but you get $12.55 an hour, plus commission but it’s not worth it in reality. If you’re not on the managers good side, good luck getting hours. Can only wear brands the store sells, which is limited. Can’t really go to head office cause the management & head office and like bestfriends so you won’t get anywhere. Overall, not a good place to work.

In a typical day of work our number one priority are customers, if you love talking to people, have a sense of fashion and know your stuff about our 50 brands you're all set to go! This job has helped me develop my sense of fashion, keeping me up to date with the latest fashions both for men and women as well as develop myself as an individual. Management is great, very efficient and professional, co-workers make you feel welcome and at ease, we all work together as a team and help each other out in any situation. There is nothing hard about this job I would say it'd be hard to mess up .. that's all. The most enjoyable part of this job was successfully helping customers and having them return knowing we'd treat them right.

A typical day would start with me putting clothes away from change rooms, and then working the till, assisting customers and doing stock. Working at Below The Belt I learned to be more outgoing and talk to everyone I meet each day. The management was great at Below The Belt, I loved working with all of my co workers because they were so easy to get along with, and we worked well together.
The hardest part of my job was trying to think of how to rearrange walls to make all the clothing fit perfectly.And the most enjoyable thing about working at Below The Belt was the location. Working in Southgate mall made it more enjoyable, because I met so many different people.

The hours and management I had are so flexible. They worked hard to accommodate my crazy school schedule, even when I was only able to work twice a week. 

As with most retail/beginner jobs, your workplace is highly affected by your co-workers and customers, however if you are able to motivate yourself and try to keep yourself positive you can enjoy working here.

Most of the managers that I know have worked with the company since their teens and decided to stay. If you are dedicated and desire to climb the corporate ladder there are many opportunities to do so.

I highly recommend this job to any Uni/College student looking for a summer job or possibly a part-time school job while studying.

Super fun and fast paced job! Its really busy & sometimes it can get overwhelming at times due to how much there is but that’s the fun part about it. You’re never bored at work and the managers/team leaders relate to us a lot while also being able to make sure everyone pulling there weight. There’s so much flexibility cause its a big team so less burnout cause you get to have time to yourself
Diverse team met a lot of cool people and cool clothing brands come in. Learnt a lot from the manager. Really understanding upper management too

Unfortunately, as to be expected... Working at a Below The Belt location in a popular mall was not enjoyable (for me) long-term. While I really enjoyed dressing up for work, and having a retail job with "status", I could not handle the level of drama that accompanied. 
I left mostly for Health & Residency issues... But the stresswas also too much.

Lastly, and most importantly... the pay. 
When I was hired, I was tricked into agreeing to take a job paying LESS than my province's minimum wage (10.50), because we were also on 2% commission. When I dropped my hours due to my health... my wage dropped to $9 plus commission...

What is the best part of working at the company?
You got to work in the mall and see friends.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
having to make everything perfect and constantly getting criticism from coworkers about how to fold clothes and putting clothes away.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
very diverse, didnt really celebrate any special event for occasions.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
constant walking and standing.

The company does not care about you. The store managers do not care about you. Only the key holders are valued, and you will know nothing of head office. There are mostly high school students working there, so the environment is very cliquey. You are guaranteed to be ignored your first couple weeks there. The thing that really did it for me was having to ask to use to washroom. And sometimes they said no. Biological human needs are not a question, they are a necessity. If I have to use the washroom I don’t want to have to ask my 17 year old superior.
