A professional summary of my career indicates I am a successful financial leader with 35 years experience in industrial, professional and non-profit organizations.  My career in a people-centered organization spans over 25 years to date as an integral partner and leader in its growth.  My abilities in creating, implementing and adhering to policies, goals and strategic outcomes are imperative in the operations of an organization.  My leadership and fiscal management saw the organization grow substantially from local services to provincially involved activities.  My solid establishment of fiscal management is essential in providing security to lead towards new endeavors of development and growth. 

I implemented areas of strong cost control, personnel and policy procedures attributing towards quality services for individuals. I seek to provide clear guidelines and direction in an organization.  This aids in the retention, support and respect of my core of dedicated and committed colleagues.  I look to maintain a long-standing team as a stable leader and mentor smooth transitions as they occur.

My involvement in core executive management activities includes numerous committees: finance, audit, property development and risk management.  My rapport with Community Living BC and BC Housing provides me with invaluable assets that generate a positive presence in the BC communities we call our home.  

I have developed numerous contacts, participated on committees and groups sharing general business and management strategies with other organizations and sector agencies. This involvement serves to strengthen and uphold an organization’s integrity through admiration and appreciation of my business acumen. 

Abbotsford has been my home community for 30 years of my adult life and a privilege to raise our family in.

Bethesda homes were just that A real home setting. The homes offered a peaceful and fun environment with all the surroundings that a home life should offer. Love, Joy peace and entertainment as well.
There were daily programs appropriate to each individuals needs. A typical day was filled with, common daily schedules. Morning care and preparations dressing teeth face wash and scheduled baths. Breakfast and scheduled programs. Outings or visitors with family or friends. Swimming or going for walks. I learned how to relate and understand the individual's means of communication. How to deal with issues physical, health or emotional issues. Also with co workers. Learning how to communicate in a close environment from day to day. Agreeing to disagree. The hardest part of the job was to see any of the individuals suffer as they seemed to be more vulnerable to illnesses because of their mental and physical disabilities. Seizures for an example. And sometimes because the individuals could not verbally communicate It was not always easy to help them. The most enjoyable part of the job was being able to help them, and love them and receive the love back.

very unfair in planning the overnight work roster, ie has very few staff doing the overnight shifts and basically unfair to those very few staff members who they insist on assigning to this particular shift. Most enjoyable part of the job is interacting with clients that I cared for, making sure they feel that I love them with a compassion, treat them as family, and that I was always there for them. Management is lousy because they do not care about how staff go about their duties, particularly in the PM shift when the managers are off from work for the day. What I really dislike about the culture there is that some staff members spend a lot of time on their cell phones than spending more time on their duties, and because managers are already gone for the day, those staff members get away with it. I have no problems whatsoever on the clients that I looked after but I can't say the same for my coworkers.

The primary focus is for the safety and well-being of the residents, and the staff display a good balance in making that a priority.
The head office for Bethesda is in Abbotsford which requires the local manager to be skilled at bringing the two entities together, and the present manager is skilled and practical in making that connection.
The home is governed by a union contract so there is always the process of balancing union and company concerns, but both sides have done well to compromise and negotiate the process to minimize the stress that could filter on down to the staff if not managed well.

Working at Bethesda was incredibly rewarding. I was there to support people with special needs but do believe I came away with the better deal! I received community, lifelong friends and an air of hope. I lost my job to the mandates unfortunately, and I did find it sad that bethesda did not address this situation, just ignored it. It was a deeply shattering experience for those who stood up for medical freedom. The mandates were to stop the spread ostensibly, yet most of the workers and persons served got covid after the unvaccinated workers were let go. Bethesda itself is a great place to work though. They train the right person on the job, and in nearly 6 years of working there it never was a chore to come to work!

Overall, it is a blessing working at Bethesda Christian Association. A typical work day appears challenging, depends of the residents and their moods.  As a support worker, you have to do your homework before going there as being relaxed and giving attention to the residents as much as needed as long they need your love and your attention. They become very attached and close to you if you are showing love and support them.  If you love working with people with intellectual disabilities, it is not complicated. I always go with pleasure to work and if I have more then 3 days off, I already miss them.

Very friendly and helpful and just a wonderful place to work

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Cleaning kitchens, bathrooms, putting dishes in the dishwashers, and washing floors

Being a support worker brings together the bond of comradery unlike any other job; I was put into a team of people working around the clock, seven days a week, to take care of several individuals in a care home. This was a tiring and physically demanding job, but for meaningful work and relationships. 

The Management operates in silos. Hiring processes are discriminatory to people who are not Christians. Salary is not good, and leadership is kind of secretive. Some staff is not qualified and cant is replaced. Lack of consideration for a different point of view and Leadership is very rigid, not friendly or compromising. 

Bethesda is an excellent place to work.  The organization takes great pride in the quality of their care, and I have always felt valued there. It is also incredibly rewarding work, as the people we care for are amazing.
