The maintenance department is in hard shape. It is very top heavy and micromanaged. The manager is in over his head and lacks people skills and is very unprofessional at times. Takes all his direction from the VP who is also very unprofessional and has an Ego that bruises easily. Multiple employees have become victim for crossing his Ego. Maintenance Superintendent has zero maintenance experience and is unsupportive of his team. As a team they are very quick to throw employees under the bus for their own gains. Leadership as a whole undervalues the experience of the employees. They are not afraid to cut corners with safety and otherwise to get the job done. Company is very well known to local fire department and first responders due to multiple steam excursions and chemical exposures. Maintenance as a department is looked down on. Employees are afraid to voice concerns for fear of repercussions.  This isn't a place to come if you want to advance your skills. There is zero industry specific training, and the complex jobs are few and far between. Most big jobs are contracted out. Visual inspections will make up most of your day. Paperwork is very heavy and scrutinized. Appearance is everything even if it means sacrificing quality of work. The compensation rate is fair, Overtime pay is subpar and not up to industry standard. Benefits are good. Lots of good people and a very inclusive workplace. It has potential to be a great place to work if issues ever get addressed. 

 

What is the best part of working at the company?
The free coffe.The free Tea. The free workbooks once a year. I guess that's about it.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Being pressured into task your not trained for.
Knowing that the managers are having you do task they themselves have not been trained for. Watching the revolving door of new people being put in management positions with 6-18 months experience.  Walking around wondering what/how/ where to begin. Total chaos! OMG!

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Nobody cares because they all see its just a stepping stone until we get our permanent residency.  Bottom line.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I sit at my desk correcting hundreds of document errors. Listening to workers baffled about the next blunder management will do. Totally off the rails.

This is the only biotech company I worked at so I might be biased. You have to be a Literal in order to thrive or get advancement but this applies to most biotech. I worked in the research department so there was some flexibility in terms of what you do in a day and that was the best part. Most coworkers are interesting people and well-selected. The bottom line was if you are a social person and liked by the management, you will be happy.

flexibility with time and schedule to work.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
travelling to company as the weather gets harsh some times in winter

friendly and cooperating, everyone's very supportive 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
coming to work around 9 and working till 5

Good people, good supervisors, I had a good manager.  The pay is fair, good benefits that began immediately.   I'm not sure how organized the company is the further up the ladder you climb (decisions that make you scratch your head but well beyond your pay grade so you don't care), but I enjoyed working with my team and department.  

Great place to learn about the biotechnology industry! The people at the company are great.

Unfortunately, not too many advancement opportunities and salary for some roles should be increased.

Only job I ever had where the employees look forward to night and weekend shifts.
Would be the best job on the island if it wasn't for the toxic, high-school mentality that comes down from management.
 
 

The company doesn't value their tenured staff. The pay isn't worth being mistreated. Workload has doubled, while staffing has decreased by 40%. But we need 27 Directors and 6 Vice presidents and 6 chief officers. 

Poor upper management. Bad work culture. Underpaid. Undervalued. People making decisions about stuff they know nothing about. The company just needs the proper structure and leadership 

Micro management and lots of political drama. Lots of overturn of people so moving postion can be easy if you are friends with upper management, if not you are just a labour
