There is so much to get into I probably don't have enough characters available to say it all so here are the bullet points:

-poor communication from management

-poor delivery of product stock (would take months just to get basic, popular items)

-kiosk is fined if you take a break longer than 10-15 minutes depending on which mall you're in, even if you're working 8+ hour shifts 

-clear misinformation spread to employees (and therefore customers) about quality and materials used in products (their "316LVM surgical steel" would chip,  strip, and rust allllll the time, which is specifically what that caliber of steel is supposed to not do)

-even after promotion paid just above minimum wage, and fulltime hours are only available to the location manager by nature of the kiosk schedule set up

-high pressure to make quotas even when stock is low (they post monthly charts of what every single employee makes in terms of sales and commission)

-crew are often left to perform tasks that only managers are originally trained to do and may not even receive additional training to accomplish, and are definitely never compensated equally for it

-crew receive lower annual review marks if they do not engage with every single post the company Facebook makes, yet are not told that this is a requirement at any point

-the main member of management they had when I left was passive aggressive, disingenuous, and arrogant. was definitely the last straw that pushed me to quit. 


That all being said, I did meet some genuinely amazing, kind people who worked there and I'm pretty sure still do. Also working alone was nice for me as it gave me a chance to develop my social and customer service skills. But I honestly was never compensated fairly for the amount of work I did for them, and the way they handle their schedule never accomodated for personal emergencies. I had to work the same day I went to the hospital, and also when my cat died. The only way you could get a day off or something covered was if you booked it at least a month in advance or someone was willing to go above and beyond for you (which nobody was ever paid enough to even want to do). 

It's a good way to get your foot in the door of the modification scene, or to get some decent customer experience, but I advise nobody else stay for very long. It will wear you down quickly and you'll be expected to act like you owe them your life because they're willing to pay you $13/hour and bring you one free coffee per year when they visit.

I would definitely not Recommend working here and there are an abundance of reasons why id say this so ill go over a few of the major red flags .

For one , no one in management knows at all what theyre doing . The communication is absolutely horrible , its like pulling nails trying to get any laid out information to help you . The buisness is run completely from social media meaning that you need to have a facebook on at all times because if you ever miss a message from them on your day/days off you will hear about it .aswell as all tasks are delegated over facebook so make sure to have your notifications on at all times to check for anything head office needs.
Throughout the 7 months working there as a kiosk manager I was never paidstat pay for stats ive worked , aswell as benifits I was entitled to .It was such a hassle to get any help with benifits i ended up giving up on month 6 . 

They controlled my facebook by telling me What I had to like and follow and comment on , which was alll posts made on their social media pages . 

Management does not care about your well being . During my time at bodymods i lost a close friend of mine , her life was taken and i was devistated, they asked me if i could “handle it” with work or if it would be easier for me to leave . So Iwent into work and dealt with it . It was a horrible experience.

Safety is not a concern of theirs. There was an incident at the mall where I worked and  pepper spray was leaked ,all stores shut down and left  on our sode of the mall, All stores but bodymods because I couldnt reach or get ahold of anyone of importance to let me have the go ahead to go home. So I sat and waited till the mall closed (45 mins later) to go home

I could homestly go on for days about how bad the company is but i think this is enough as is to show anyone why I wouldnt ever go back or recommend it to anyone who is a good person.   


The only good part I experienced was product knowledge aswell as I got the chance to hire my own team of really sweet girls! Unfortunately now that ive left they are getting abused by the higher ups That i had to deal with before ,and that really sucks .My old employees do the jobs I had to do as manager but without a pay increase , lovely eh?.

I started with BodyMods in the spring of 2014 as a part time customer service rep. I had about 20 hours a week on average, but was often able to boost the hours by covering shifts for my coworkers. I was promoted to a senior in 2015, which is basically an assistant manager in training - you don't have the experience, but you're given more responsibility and pay and work closely with the manager to learn how to lead a team. By Summer 2015 I was an assistant manager with full time hours, and in early 2016, I was moved to head office to work as the office assistant. In February 2018, I was promoted to office manager and in March, I was moved to marketing. 

This is a company that recognizes your strengths and passions and will promote you to where you fit best if you put the work in. My role in managing social media and graphic design was created because I brought them some ads I put together on my own time and continually worked to prove I could do the job I wanted.

The owners have helped me with vet bills, driving my mom to her doctor's appointments, getting my licence, giving me time off when needed, helping with schooling, helping when I was in my car accident, getting my passport, and so much more. I've seen them do similar for other employees. 

For local stores, the company will host the occasional night out, and for the far away ones, they'll do a Crew night out with whatever store they're staying at. There's a bonus system where your team can make up to $600 in bonus a month, to be split up by the store manager among the team. Full time employees get extended health care and dental, and are often on track to move up in the company.

During my time with them I witnessed a hostile workplace due to a lack of compassion or people skills from upper management, and rules being created to fit the narrative that either were not put into an updated policy and procedures list or even posted to one of the many unnecessary group chats. For how many chats and groups there are involved you’d think the information and training aspect would trickle down without issue, however there were several changes in areas of sales, customer service, training and the exchange policy that were never communicated to us until we were suddenly wrong. Retention is extremely low, morale is extremely low and if you’re the manager trying to hold it together and be the buffer between your staff and harsh upper management it takes a toll, it’s difficult to do your job when you aren’t allowed to give negative feedback or criticism to anyone except for those below you. It really feels like they aren’t there to support but rather berate, after covid they talked about taking care of each other and created these hollow check ins to act like they cared but whenever there was a negative comment in the check ins that employee was interrogated quite harshly and often shut down altogether and my co workers were constantly stressed. The raises are good at first when they happen, however 25 cents can only go so far when you don’t feel valued. I loved this job, I cared and was passionate but recommend you tread carefully because you are entering an unstable environment with disorganized operations and it will absolutely kill your joy. 

The team welcomed me right away, I met one of the owners a few weeks later and felt really proud to have been given the job. 

This company invests so many training hours into you to make sure you have the skills to do the best you can and it pays off. I didn't know nearly as much when I started but found my knowledge base grew very fast. 

The quality of the product you sell is (from the other jobs I've worked) the best! I've spent a few of my paychecks on prints, and jewelry!

If you want extra hours you can just pick up shifts from sick calls or vacations and soon enough you will be seen and noted that you are dedicated and hungry for shifts and you build from there. 

I heard about a few former employees that rallied up some of there friends and tried to make there social media pages loose stars... I was looking at this and noticed a few 1 star reviews with no detail (not cool) but when you read the other reviews it shows the true dedicated employees verse the ones that obviously are just there to take advantage. 

If you want to work for thoughtful and amazing people and dress the way you love to express yourself with no judgement and build your service industry experience or progress from within, This company has been the best I've ever worked for!!

Basically title. I loved working there doing the day to day. The clients are a pretty specific type, and they're almost always chill. You get to have a lot of one on one with each customer which gives you time to be friendly and actually have a chat if they want. I loved my coworkers too, shift change actually became a highlight of the day.
But to say that upper management was incompetent would be an understatement. Stock was hard to get and basics were rarely filled. You'd send them a list, and would get a fraction of what you needed back, with no indication if you'd ever get the rest of what you needed. Sales goals were unattainable and we were constantly berated in nice terms for not meeting them. Everytime we tried to bring up why we couldn't make the goals (it's not like you can grab people by the wrist and force them to buy!) We'd be told to not make excuses.
I'm not sure why, but someone higher up seemed to have it out for me. When I found out she was insulting me behind my back it was the nail in the coffin.
I really wish I could have stayed. I really genuinely enjoyed working there, but the employers were so hostile to me despite me best efforts.

A typical day at Body Mods is first looking at what your personal goal and the overall budget goal for the day. Make sure there are no holes or spaces left in the display. Dust glass hourly. There is a lot of sizing and putting different jewelry pieces together. Organize back stock, write down anything that was needed from head office. There is a manager for every location and then a district manager, when I was hired I had a really awesome manager. She understood if there was transit problems and I ran a few minutes late, when their was a family emergency she took my shift. After she left one of the girls I worked with became manager and she was also really great. Funny, understanding, and helped whenever she could. District management was awful, we didn't receive a lot of product that was asked for then got in trouble for not having it. Very unprofessional. The hardest part about the job was finding something to do when there wasn't a lot of customers. The most enjoyable part was the girls I worked with we all had such a good bond and took care of each other.

October 3rd, 2018 marked my ten-year anniversary with BodyMods Canada. Working for almost a third of my life within this Canada based company has been outstanding. Getting the chance to travelling all over Canada and see cities I would never have gone to on my own; using skills I love such as merchandising, building locations, training and developing new crew and making those real-life connections.

BodyMods is a family; the leaders of this company foster this feeling by making everyone feel included and welcome. I have learned so much from both of leaders here at BodyMods and will never be able to thank them enough for everything they've taught me both personally and professionally.

The fantastic people I get to meet every day and spend time with enriches my life and spirit. Working closely with such a diverse and dynamic team that is BodyMods Canada allow me to grow as a person and achieve goals I have set out for myself. I honestly can't imagine working anywhere else with such a fun atmosphere, everchanging landscape and products I love.

In short; join our team because it’s incredible.

Even if they promise you an apprenticeship it’s still not worth it because of the constant anxiety from the owners pressuring you to sell your soul to the customer. They pay nothing and give management responsibilities to all lower position employees. There’s always constant pressure from upper management to sell more but the commissions they offer are a joke. There’s constant issues at every location and you can’t count on getting a call or message back when you ask for help. They’re quick to with-hold breaks because of a lack of scheduled employees, and if your sick then you have to find someone to cover for you. If you can’t then you have to show up and there will be consequences if you don’t. Overall this place may look like it’s all about piercings, tattoos, and the lifestyle that goes with it but all they’re interested in is money and people are an easy resource to them. I saw a lot of loyal and dedicated people get completely disrespected and taken advantage of and unfortunately my experience was the same.
