I worked for Bold Growth for nearly 5 years and experienced many successes and challenges.  If you are considering working for this company, please read on.    

Strengths: 
- The cultivation department is a great group of passionate and talented people.  Bold provides the opportunity to work in a year round indoor growing facility.  
- Fast paced environment. 
- Opportunity to gain experience in the regulatory and compliance sector.  
- Social events can be considered a perk to some. 

Opportunities for Improvement: 
- Immature Mentorship and Neglect of Professional Growth:  Ownership and management can improve on soft skills such as communication,  problem solving, emotional intelligence, and conflict resolution, etc.  However, the company does not take time to invest in their leadership’s professional growth.  They do host one week  a year focussing on wellness, which I was actively a part of, but they could do much better in this regard.  The mindset of “do more with less,” was often echoed around the workplace and even on their job descriptions at one point in time.  This can be correlated to burn out and high level of absenteeism.  How about trying a different approach- empower your employees with knowledge and support, so they can work efficiently and feel good about it? 
- Toxic Work Environment:  Some of the production and manufacturing areas are conducive to gossip, high levels of stress, and disengaged employees due to the nature of the work environment and lack of strong leadership.  I had a personal experience with an employee sending harassing messages through the company’s communication app, which caused me high levels of anxiety.  This contributed to my departure from the company.  Again, empowering employees through means of professional training, in both labor and lead roles, would go far in turning a toxic environment into a respectful one.    
- Weak Buy-In and Lack of Job Security: Bold’s approach to change management needs improvement.  They often get caught up in the speed of commerce and hastily make changes without thorough communication.  The turn over rate of employees is remarkably high, predominantly in the production and manufacturing departments, which can lead to employee unrest and decreased morale.  Bold Growth prides themselves in taking a ‘lean’ approach to business, but to be truly LEAN is so much more than just cutting staff numbers or ‘trimming the fat’.  
- Human Resource Department: Lack of compassion, empathy, and fair treatment for all employees.  My experience with HR made me feel unsafe and uncomfortable.  When your strongest employees go quiet, that’s the time to listen and lean in.     
- Micro Management:  Bold Growth is the company they are today because of the people.  Trust them to do the job you hired them to do.  When disagreements occur, don’t stifle their ideas and push a different agenda to the point of nauseam.  Allow a safe and supportive space for collaboration where people feel heard.  Business ownership and leading a team is a privilege.  Your actions have an impact on your employees lives.  These are real people that are counting on you to fulfill your responsibility to provide a safe workplace both physically and mentally.  Stop treating people and resources like they are disposable and start looking inwards and investing in yourself and how you can be better for your people.  Reflect on where you are and what helped get you there.  The People.

I genuinely enjoyed my time at Bold as a lab associate. As a new graduate, I found this role to be a fantastic starting point that provided me with the skills and experience I needed to succeed in a real world sense (unlike academia) . But this isn’t just a place for new grads anyone who joins can find growth and satisfaction here.

One of the standout aspects of my experience was the incredible team. I worked with some of the most supportive and collaborative people I’ve ever met. The sense of camaraderie and teamwork made the busy and challenging days really doable, but you do have to put in the work and foster those relationships if you want to feel your efforts reciprocated, but when done it truly felt like a family. I would attribute this to the long tenure of leadership and varied age range of associates within the company.

What I appreciated most was the opportunity for growth. The environment fostered learning and independence, allowing me to progress both personally and professionally. I owe much of my success to the exceptional leadership in the department. My manager, in particular, was instrumental in creating a positive and empowering workplace and your experience will slightly vary by manager. Fortunately there is a good amount of interdepartmental mobility, so if you like a certain managers style and have the experience you can potentially work under different leadership which in most companies is a luxury.

Overall, while there are always challenges in any job especially when starting, my experience here has been overwhelmingly positive, and many of the issues i had with small lunch rooms and coffee break policies were resolved, unfortunately, it was at the time of my exit....but i wont hold that against them. 5/5


As someone who has worked in food processing industry moving to bold was something initially I was anxious about especially not being someone who smokes cannabis myself. After a few weeks I realized how toxic many other work environments were and how welcoming and amazing BOLD was.  I used to come home a wreck stressed out, physically and mentally exhausted, no energy or patience for my children or wife. Is bc of not being over stressed and under appreciated. They treat you like your a person who matters versus a replaceable cog in a wheel. The staff was welcoming and the managers were for the first time in my career giving me positive reinforcement and gave everyone they managed had a high level of moral I never knew before. If u want to work for a company that you can feel like u matter, your family matters and your goals matters Bold is a great place. Regardless of your role it is true at all levels within the company.

-Very fast paced and constantly changing to make improvements.

-Hardest part of the job is dealing with the change management that comes with working at a new company that holds customer satisfaction in the highest regard as well as being in a brand new industry that requires quick pivoting to ensure your product stays at the forefront of the market. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
The best part about working here was listening to a manager complain about attendance ( someone who was never there if upper management wasn't ), then having to listen to my rep from income support say that based on information provided by the company that I failed to inform them of instances of being late, absent. Especially after the department manager made it his daily goal to belittle and intrude on my personal life. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Going there and realizing. " wow, I lost sleep for work that the paperwork has not yet been verified for "

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Your culture is a seaonal costume they can parade around, your skills and labour are just new toys for them to experience and your availability is a mythical weapon that is theirs to command 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Stress, lack of sleep and depression.

***Due to the incredibly high turnover rate resulting in going away "parties". 

It sucks to work here. Everyone expects a relaxed stoner greenhouse but it's just a bunch of depressed people from other industries that couldn't find alternative work. The pay is below industry standards. The paperwork is never-ending and highly scrutinized. Imagine filling out your taxes every single day, for every single task, and then having to do it again because you miscalculated the ratio of water to cleaner for a mop bucket. Your work will never be good enough.

there's a crisp divide between the office staff and the staff that work in the back with the plants. Most of them will never meet you or see what you do; however, they will decide the rules and protocols for what you do.

This job environment really seems to beat people down. It's sad to see.

This company is poorly managed, and they have no formal training. What they will do is slap you on a computer for several days and assume you will know all procedures immediately.  Those placed in leaderships goals lack the effort to guide and nurture new staff. Thus, adding to an already chaotic environment.

As for a group environment it is a false sense of happiness. The current Production Managers seemly lie right through a smile and have yet to communicate appropriately with the other production staff. Many of previous staff can attest to getting good reviews but being laid off without warning.

When asked the company has been asked in the past, how the employee in question could have better fulfilled their roll or why they have been excused. Each were meet with no explanation other then they weren't the appropriate fit.

In my relatively short tenure at this company, I've discovered it to be an excellent workplace, especially for those passionate about the cannabis industry and willing to adhere to strict rules. The dress code, including scrubs, gloves, hairnets, and occasionally lab coats, might seem meticulous, but it underscores the commitment to a high standard of hygiene and safety.

The team here is not only professional but also remarkably friendly and lighthearted, creating a positive work environment. While the pace of work is brisk, the tasks themselves aren't overly challenging. Emphasis is placed on efficiency without compromising product quality, providing an opportunity for continuous skill improvement.

Overall, if you're enthusiastic about the cannabis sector and value a workplace that prioritizes both camaraderie and precision, this is a great fit.
