What is the best part of working at the company?
Free parking? Employees are only allowed to park on the street, as the parking lot is reserved for customers. Only managers are permitted to use the designated shop parking spaces.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
At the end of the month, the shop prioritizes hitting numbers over completing jobs properly. They focus on delivering vehicles to customers, even when they know the customer will likely return due to issues with the work. This is what they consider "quality."

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
I wouldn’t say you should avoid this company outright, but joining them comes with certain risks. While it might not be the absolute cheapest company in Canada, it’s definitely among the top three when it comes to minimizing costs at the expense of employees. They mislead on their recruitment ad by claiming that they “care about the employees.” 
Management often prioritizes output over employee well-being, and it can feel like workers are seen as tools rather than valued team members. Insults or negative attitudes from management can sometimes overshadow the work environment, and the focus is often solely on hitting numbers for the shop, rather than fostering a supportive workplace. 


What is a typical day like for you at the company?
The only culture at Boyd revolves around meeting monthly targets and strict micromanagement. Even if you arrive at the shop on time, your workday doesn’t officially begin until you’ve put on your safety boots and started working.

They hire estimators that have no idea what they are doing, management that has no idea how to run a body shop in the first place, they dont get on top of technicians when they are falling behind on work either. The manager likes to dip his fingers into paperwork that isnt his concern and in turn screws up a whole bunch of paper work for the parts department. regional management is a joke and a half, a pencil pusher who really has no clue how to run a large scale body shop company. They make the job alot harder than it needs to be and eventually it really starts to reflect in your work because it doesnt matter how hard you try or how well you do, you eventually just dont want to be there or try anymore because somebody is gonna screw up all your paper work, or you wont have any idea whats going on with what part because the manager took it upon himself to do your job while you were busy with other parts, which is SUPPOSED to be a big no no with head office. They like to promise you alot of things but never go through with it. Like raises. Or promotions. If you want to keep a sane mind, don't work for them.

I am working with Boyd Group Inc. Our regular work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Our company offers 7.5 hours per day with hour hour unpaid break. if somebody has any problems or appointments, they can start early morning or stay late. My job at Boyd is to reconcile statements and select those statements for payment and sending un-posted invoices to our shops that are in USA, proving and sending checks and payment details to vendors, meeting dead lines. It is very fast paced working environment. 
This company has very big level of management and all people are very nice always ready to help their juniors. 
I am working with group of diversity people. All co-workers are very nice to each other and help each other when needed.
I find the hardest part of job is when missing invoices are not posted by our shops after sending them 2nd or 3rd request. 
The most enjoyable part is when we play fun games while eating free lunch and celebrating Canada's all big days altogether.

I’ve been working at Boyd Autobody for over 8 years, and honestly it’s been a really solid place to build a career. The team here is great people actually support each other, and it doesn’t feel like you’re just another number. The shop is busy, which is a good thing, and there’s a strong focus on doing quality work without cutting corners. At the same time, management makes sure everyone has what they need to succeed, whether that’s training, equipment, or just backing you up when things get hectic. What I like most is the culture. Everyone takes pride in what they do, and there’s a good balance between pushing for results and treating people with respect. Communication is straightforward, and expectations are clear, which makes a big difference day to day. It’s not perfect, like any fast paced shop, it can get stressful, but if you’re willing to work hard, you’ll learn a lot and be part of a team that actually cares about doing things right. Overall, I’d recommend it to anyone looking to grow in the autobody industry and be part of a solid crew.

regional manager in Manitoba is a total control freak and has absolutely zero people skills or any understanding of the auto body repair process.. the  assistant is even worse, thinks shes a manager coming around yelling at everyone for the smallest mistakes, it contributes nothing to helping or improving what problems are there.  Its like a 3rd world country in their shops, very dirty, dusty, poorly lit, spray booth leaks paint into the shop , old outdated equipment, and just a ton of pressure and panic to produce.   

 they will come and constantly tell you you aren't going fast enough or doing things wrong but offer no guidance or support to improve the situation because they dont know what they are doing or how to help.

if you value yourself and take pride in what you do and actually want to take your career to the next level , do not work here. there are lots of options for the autobody industry, dont allow yourself to be treated badly by these people at boyd.

My flat rate time was consistently wasted. I was asked to stay in the building during the hot summer days while they were unable to supply work orders for me. 

Was routinely asked to do building maintenance type jobs not even remotely related to my job description. 

Manager told me multiple times that he "didn't like working with me." 

QC seems to have no rhyme or reason. 

I was told that the time off I scheduled weeks in advance should have been opted out of after management signed me up for a welding course (without my knowledge) on a bit less than 4 days notice. 

I reached out for 4 straight pay periods about issues with my pay stub. Each time was ignored. It is law that your pay stub tells you how many hours you are being paid for.

I found out I was the only person in the building not being given time to do tear downs, which is really the estimators job in the first place.


A typical day at Boyd, very hard working team looking to meet one goal. I learnt lots over the few years working there, everything from Working with Manitoba Public Insurance, to haveing a monthly budget and meeting that the best of our ability, by getting jobs in the shop and learing to up sell on jobs as well. Management is pretty good. I personally really liked my manager and the every day jobs he tackled and problem solved through. Co-working enviorment was great, theres no I in Team. The hardest part of my job over the years was month end. balanceing workorders and closeing files so that we make budget, the sometimes really fast paced enviorment. And the most enjoyable part of my job was going home happy and satisfyed about the work that i accomplished during the day, and comming in the next morning ready to go again.

The shops are poorly managed. Absolutely no air flow, dust lingers in the air. All complaints or concerns get thrown to the side. Pay is not industry leading, barely standard. There is job bias here where what your title is the only thing you do. In my time here an hourly worker kept asking for a hand maintain shop cleanliness which everyone is tasks with for their areas. And all that was given was bad attitudes and no help. It was brought up to management and nothing was done with it. As well with workers being late or no call no show workers. Zero consequences for anyone’s actions. As well lack of proper supplies for people to work safely and efficiently. A lot of negative attitude in the work place. And a revolving door of workers.

Very poor management with a lack of clear communication and organization. Employees were often expected to perform tasks without proper guidance or support. There was little to no job security, creating uncertainty and stress among staff. During the interview process, management promised comprehensive training and development opportunities; however, no formal training was provided after hiring. New employees were expected to learn on their own, which made it difficult to perform duties effectively and safely. Employee concerns were rarely addressed, and there was limited support from supervisors. Overall, the work environment did not meet the expectations that were set during the hiring process.

Typical day at work, look for keys on a disorganized board, half the keys are not tagged, or the vehicle isn't even in the shop and sent to the junkyard.  You can try to start one detail then get bombarded from the boss to pick up or do other errands and never complete one detail for the whole day.  I didn't learn anything but the management is garbage.  "Hey can you do this? I need you to pick up this.  I need you to drop this off." Workplace culture was great, the technicians are awesome.  I'd say that was the most enjoyable part of the job.  The wage is still very low and not enough for a boss that expects you to be in 20 different places at once.  Just don't work here.
