I personally do not encourage anyone of First Nations descent to work here as I was encouraged from my Councilor at my Reserve to work with Brand Energy at Dow Chemical, at first it was good but after 18months the true colors of the foreman and management came out.
  These people are Bigots and Rascist towards Native people,  they treated me well for about 16 months and then the foreman started making fun of how Native people speak and then my foreman told me once a month that the foreman and workers at HCP have a Rascist meeting and make fun of all people of color.
 I was delivering materials to these people and after I was told this I wouldn't deliver their materials until the end of the day so I wouldn't have to see any of them,  usually I was the quickest delivery person for Insulation but after hearing about their behavior I didn't want to deliver their materials and hesitated for as long as I could,  I was eventually laid off and couldn't find work. 
  It was only by the Grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and our Father in Heaven that I'm currently working for an organization that doesn't have Bigots and Homosexuals in the management department. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
Wages were on par with the rest of the industry 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Very physically demanding. Supervision is there for an easy paycheque and delegate work extensively. Alot of workers having incidents and getting hurt. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Hostile work environment, Supervision lacks necessary people skills and have a hard time accepting changes in the industry. Safety was the least priority and when something happens they just look for a scapegoat - usually workers attempting to meet high production demands due to the company under-bidding on contracts while trying to meet unrealistic deadlines.

I worked for Brand during the Shell 2020 Turnaround in Fort Saskatchewan. What a horrible experience!
Supervision was under qualified and equally unprofessional.
Little to no, organization between crews, supervision or day shift to night shift.

I have worked for Brand in the past on other job sites, and had an excellent experience (Great Management, team attitude). This site was was polar opposite.
Brand Head Office Management needs to do a thorough review of their supervision, and their qualifications and make changes to foster a better work environment and culture at the Fort Saskatchewan location.
Maybe review, provincial legislation, Occupational Safety Laws, labor laws and liabilities.

Toxic work environment with nothing but favouritism. Only way to advance is if you know someone or if so many people can’t take it anymore that they quit and there’s no options left. 

They expect you to put the job and company before anything else and won’t help you if you are struggling. The on site management is beyond terrible and will do nothing to help you but will make sure to make it even worse for you.

Unless you are desperate, have some respect for yourself and work anywhere else because no one there has a clue what whats going on and you’ll regret it when you are struggling to do your job every day.

Only pro to the job was suffering along the cool people working there 


They treat their employees like numbers, if you miss days you can expect a layoff. Management is horrible and the politics surrounding it doing your job incredibly difficult. On site Foreman's will watch you like hawks and are empowered to catch you making mistakes for corrective action and discipline. They preach safety culture but at the end of the day it's just they're way of CYA and making sure the blame doesn't fall back on them. The only thing that made this job bareable is if you get put on a good crew with guys you get along with but you'll all be in the same boat hating your life. If your on a crew you dont get along with then your life at work is horrible 

Dont work there if you can help. This is a company of body body. There are better and worse. I'm a female so nsing new I was told on my first day to work in what they call tin palace- closed space like tent  while my two coworkers backed up the truck and all the smoke was coming in through the doors. They sat on their phones watching me working. After all your dedication for the job you will get fired because body and body will have to keep the jobs
Dont work for them as long as you can find other job. None will listen to you. You are just a number

Management already has their favorites, on 3 sites in the Edmonton area.  If you do make it onto a site, expect it to be short-term.  Qualifications, experience, and references mean nothing to the higher level supervision so don't expect to earn a spot on the maintenance crew, even though promises will be made. Very low morale in the workers. It's unfortunate BrandSafway has taken over so many contracts in the area, while continuing to treat the workers as dispensable.

-Upbeat work environment 
-easily accessible ppe/tool crib
-equal. Opportunity (which can be both good and bad ie: the good being women are given fair chance to work along side the men & the bad being there have been far too many falsely ticketed individuals with a refugee title as of late which has made for a very dangerous situation more times than i like to have witnessed in one life time.

There is zero job security here, you can have a job one day , the next gone,, the management is cut throat , and the environment is hostile , zero follow through , and have outlandish expectations for EVERYONE , not on individual work ethics , or cultures , and skill levels. And in respect to the pay , its below fair.


Work too many hours for too many months, put up with endless crew changes, materials mismanagement, toxic culture & company motto of "It is what it is,"  no concerns will be addressed, just do what they say no matter how illogical it is. There are great workers here, but terrible supervision & terrible morale.
