Working at Brandon University has had it's down points, primarily with dealing with COVID. When I first started, class sizes where 12-15 students, and by the time I finished my last teaching term I taught a combined level class of 9-10 students. Primarily, this was because of the travel restrictions in place due to COVID and how this affected student visa processing, student enrolment, etc. 

This experience gave me a great taster teaching at a post secondary institutional level. The job itself had been heavy on assessment and grading, which I found had helped my overall teaching ability. Great instructors to work with. The program allowed me to make adjustments to my workload due to stress

What is the best part of working at the company?
I had a wonderful experience working there. I felt supported and included within the organizations diverse workforce.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
I had very little stress outside of normal deadlines.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Great! They have a statement in inclusion and value equity, diversity, and inclusion.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
The day is full of greetings and equipment and resources to help get the job done.

Great environment and friendly people. However, if you are looking for a full-time position that isn't teaching, and revolves around research, you won't find that here. Most research is assisted by part-time undergraduates and graduate students taking the Masters program. Management is always friendly and willing to help in whatever way they can. Co-workers are willing to go out of their way to teach and assist with required duties. Overall, great place!

The typical day is that I am assistant when professor is in a lab and hand out homework and answer questions that student asked in a lab. In a lab, I have learned a lot . For example , I can sharpen my knowledge what I learned in class. The hardest part of the job is that I can not answer all questions that students asked. That's where I should improve. The most enjoyable part of the job is that I CAN help my students and make good friends with them.

It was a very toxic and disappointing enviroment

Poor senior leadership , head games 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very toxic - privileged senior leadership 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Work in fear - lots of backstabbing and gossip

The small class sizes are really awesome. All the profs are pretty helpful in teaching you what you need to know. I really like the geography program. I quite enjoyed working as a Lab Assistant in the first semester. Second semester I am now working as a marker for a different geography class, where I basically have to mark the assignments and tests. I really enjoy it.

Beautiful campus but terrible management resulting in toxic workplace envuronment throughout many offices. Turnover is high for an institution this small (5+ higher ups left this year alone, some after only being there a couple of years). Preferential treatment and favouritism play a large part in advancement and acceptance. Apply only if you have thick skin.

Gossip, yes. Not as much consideration for student well being as there is for throwing coworkers under the bus in fighting for limited resources. Hard to advocate for students, many of whom are there for their tuition and not necessarily up to the demands of university curriculum. 

Do not recommend students work at the students' union, it is a toxic place to work, the staff has no proper training, and worse management.
With a large turnover, they need to get their act together and show their respect to their staff.
There has no HR and people there cover the sky with one hand, pushing their false on other staff.


Teaching at Brandon University is very laid back. Colleagues are friendly and helpful, and often very social. The hardest part of this job is probably that you're on your own for course curriculum development. Management seems to assume that you know your job already and don't really interfere unless you ask for feedback.
