bridgehead's job quality really depends on management and location. if you know people who work here, talk to them and ask them which locations have the best managers (and the best tips! tips range from $4/hr all the way up to $10 depending on how busy the location is.)

the way it works is you apply to multiple stores and the ones that are hiring contact you. after you work for 3 months you can start picking up shifts at other stores. this is basically mandatory if you want hours.

i dont recommend applying during the winter (january specifically) because that's a slow period in food service and you won't be getting a lot of shifts. my hours went down from 24 a week to around 12. 

because of this, this is not a job you can rely on as your only source of income especially in this city. it is unaffordable and unrealistic. it's also going to be very unlikely that you'll find a fulltime job at bridgehead (they just don't do that...) it's best if you're a student or you live with your parents. you can't pay bills on min wage bridgehead barista money.

u do get free drinks and beans which is cool. 

customers vary in niceness (the richer the neighbourhood the worse the customers, in my experience.) there is a huge emphasis on customer service, more than at other jobs i've had. you're encouraged to talk to customers while making their drinks.

During my time here I was hardly ever respected or given any sort of support, but was treated like dirt while having the world expected of me. I witnessed higher ups give eachother promotions and pats on the back while ignoring all of my accomplishments and overreacting to each and every thing I did that was wrong. 
I trained people for another location and they were great employees, only be to be told I never trained anyone. I had coworkers who would act like I was awesome but would complain about me behind my back and manipulate me into doing more work than I should have. Overall I was constantly gaslit and treated like excrement by a bunch of corporate suits that pretend to be your friendly local coffeehouse...what a joke. If you want to become a manager here, beware...it's bad.

Having gone through 3 different ownerships in 4 years, Bridgehead has unfortunately become a bit of a mess. 

There is no clear direction and current ownership has incredibly poor change management. 

The manager's role is okay, and the work is reasonable - until anything goes ary and you're expected to pick up the pieces with little to no aide. 

Pay is fine, though not commesurate with the work required. Managers will frequently be paid less than a supervisor working full time making tips and will not be paid for overtime, even if it is expected you work it. 

If they get their act together, this would be a fine place to work once more. 

Bridgehead is a great part time job with plenty of room to move upwards in the career and plenty of opportunities for hours. The least enjoyable part of the job is that it is required you work at other locations apart from your home store, making it difficult to plan ahead on when to work/travel time. Since it is a small company the management can be subpar but overall a fun place to work.

Bridgehead is a good place to work if you're a student, but I don't recommend it as a longterm career. Managers are treated extremely unfairly, and it's nearly impossible to get your shift covered, even if you're deathly ill. Since the minimum wage increase, they also make it near impossible to get full time hours unless you're a manager. 

The customers can be really amazing, though, and the type of people the company attracts tend to be really fun to work with.

Overall this is a good job. Management is new and still learning but very flexible and accommodating. Co-workers are usually available to pick up any shifts that you need to trade/ give away. Always someone around if you need them to jump in. Bridgehead has some excellent ideals that I can really get behind and they are making a difference on an environmental scale.

Bridgehead provides excellent training for baristas and is ideal as a part time job for students. It is easy to pick up shifts at other stores if you'd like more hours. It teaches a lot of valuable skills and there is some opportunity for advancement, dependent on your work ethic. I had one amazing manager and two adequate ones.

Great people, values consistent with actions. Friendly environment and staff.
They moved farther then I was told so I had to quit but wouldve stayed if they hadn't.
Overall good money, good team.
Management could communicate more often and training is left up to the team, but the team is super helpful.

It was well run and managed. I loved free coffee while at work and the % off when not working. It was a family feel and true to their promises. At times though it was hard to be Indigenous and explain it not as politics. But my culture is hard to explain when it's so heavily routed before in history and the history of Canada.

Not even close to what it used to be. It's so corporate now, minimalist mentality. New owners are taking the laid back coffee shop vibe to a bland take on what we used to be. Not a fun place to be anymore.
